In 2001, I was called a traitor kicked out of an MSN community, because I posted a message expressing concern that GW Bush would use the 9/11 attack as an excuse to invade Iraq and curtail the civil liberties of US citizens.  In 2003, I was called a traitor and kicked out of two MSN Communities, because I posted messages that I thought Bush was manufacturing evidence to invade Iraq  and curtailing the civil liberties of US citizens.  Today candidates for our nations highest offices are proposing the violent overthrow of the government of the United States, if they do not get their way in the coming elections.

23broden Stop being mean! All Americans respect democracy!

Republican congressional candidate Stephen Broden stunned his party Thursday, saying he would not rule out violent overthrow of the government if elections did not produce a change in leadership.

In a rambling exchange during a TV interview, Broden, a South Dallas pastor, said a violent uprising "is not the first option," but it is "on the table." […]

In the interview, Brad Watson, political reporter for WFAA-TV (Channel 8), asked Broden about a tea party event last year in Fort Worth in which he described the nation’s government as tyrannical.

"We have a constitutional remedy," Broden said then. "And the Framers say if that don’t work, revolution."

Watson asked if his definition of revolution included violent overthrow of the government. In a prolonged back-and-forth, Broden at first declined to explicitly address insurrection, saying the first way to deal with a repressive government is to "alter it or abolish it."

"If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary," Broden said, adding the nation was founded on a violent revolt against Britain’s King George III.

Watson asked if violence would be in option in 2010, under the current government.

"The option is on the table. I don’t think that we should remove anything from the table as it relates to our liberties and our freedoms," Broden said, without elaborating. "However, it is not the first option."

Like Sharron Angle and her "Second Amendment remedies", the intent is clear — if democracy doesn’t give the teabaggers the result they want, then violence is on the table… [emphasis added]

I’ve heard yammering in his intent and on what he meant, but what he said is crystal clear.  Keith Olbermann and David Corn discuss.

The entire Republican Party is complicit in this.  They are endorsing his position through their silence.  You can believe that, if today’s Republicans take power, they will jump to call us traitors at the slightest complaint about their abuse of power.  And that abuse will be so severe that we will remember Crawford Caligula as a saint, by comparison.

  1. You’re absolutely right by including the entire Teapublican Party – it’s clearly in their DNA. Media Matters has an alphabetical list of at least 27 – and growing – Teapublicans (including Palin) who have voiced calls for violence, either overtly or covertly:

And Google has an interesting map documenting where right-wing violence has occurred between 3/15/10 and 9/15/10:

  2. Oops – wrong link for the list of Teapublican hate-mongers (although it is related). Here’s the list of GOPers:

    • Great map, Nameless. I removed the other link for you. πŸ™‚

      • Nameless, I loved your link the other day where hate crime groups are located. I was surprised to see that there were 28 in my own very blue state, IL. I hope that Homeland Security is on top of this. Thanks for posting it. πŸ˜‰

  3. All I can tell the GOP/Tea Buggers is bring it on!! IF they try to overthrow the government THEY WILL BE DEFEATED, and finally the GOP/Tea Buggers will be gone from the earth. Then the U.S. and the world WILL BE a much much better place!!! Bring it on suckers!!!!

    • Allen, I appreciate your sentiment, but consider this. The people most responsible won’t be committing violent acts. They will be sitting back with phony angelic smiles, saying, “Who? Innocent little me?” The people who will be defeated are mostly just poor brainwashed fools they are using for cannon fodder. I don’t want to see the Teabaggers hurt or killed. I want to see them restored to sanity.

    • I still think we should give them a few states and wall they’re asses off, after we get the Dems outta there first of course; no need for them to suffer. We’ll have to create a test for them to get out. πŸ‘Ώ Once they wind up with NO government services (talk about getting “Big Government” out of your way), MAYBE they’ll come to their senses and join us back in the real world.

      • Lisa, that would give me problems. As an avowed pacifist, I would feel very hypocritical calling for war all the time. ;twisted:

  4. The teabaggers have already led to violence – the Holocaust Museum murder, the abortion doctor – etc

they will not stop – they will march with their Joan of Arc (Palin) and will do whatever they can to insure no more dark people get anything

the GOP leadership like Gingrich and Boner – say nothing because i think they are afraid of these thugs like Beck

  5. Glenn Beck – what can I say (plenty of course, but I’ll spare you all); him denying that he knows Pastor Broden, when he’s having him on his show 6 times???? WTF, Glenn, that’s fucked up, even for you. As I always say, “Let’s go to the tape!!!” Roll it. Like these people think they aren’t being recorded and even posted on YouTube for all of posterity and people to see. You can try and scrub it, but I’ll just pop up again for all of everyone to see. Thinking that you can get out of what you said is not only sheer stupidity, but lunacy; time for ole Glenn to spend some quality time in a rubber room where he can’t hurt himself or spew his hate. 😈 😈 😈

    • Beck always says “Who me?” whenever he instigates a hate crime. He knows his audience is to lazy to check and too stupid to remember what he said the day before.
