Short Takes:

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): Things conservatives blame for mass school shootings instead of guns

Barf Bag Alert!!

It’s the guns, STUPID! RESIST!!

From Reuters: U.S. President Donald Trump’s cancellation of a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un threatens further strain on U.S.-China ties amid a trade dispute that had been intertwined with Beijing’s pressure on isolated Pyongyang.

The United States and China are also increasingly at odds in the disputed South China Sea. The Pentagon this week withdrew an invitation for China to take part in a major naval exercise in Hawaii, and Beijing has ramped up pressure on self-ruled Taiwan, armed by Washington but claimed by Beijing.

Trump on Thursday released a letter to Kim announcing his withdrawal from the planned June 12 meeting in Singapore, which would have been the first between leaders of the two countries.

Although Chinese state media called for continued engagement between Washington and Pyongyang, Trump’s move could mark a split between China and the United States over how to deal with North Korea and its nuclear weapons, experts said.

It also risks adding fuel to simmering trade tensions, just days after China and the United States pulled back from the brink of a full-blown trade war.

The Fuhrer never was never willing to negotiate and Kim knows it. Bolton’s Libya plan was clear. Trump mistakenly cancelled, because he thought Kim would, leaving Kim, another mad man, but smarter than Trump, the moral high ground. RESIST!!

From Think Progress: Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) just tried to set gay rights back 20 years, lost a major endorsement as a result — and then made it clear he didn’t care.

“Every homeowner should be able to make a decision not to sell their home to someone [if] they don’t agree with their lifestyle,” Rohrabacher told members of the Orange County Association of Realtors last week when asked about extending federal protections to the LGBTQ community. It was a blatant endorsement of anti-LGBTQ housing discrimination, which has been illegal in California for nearly two decades.

The National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals expressed outrage over the remarks, prompting the 1.3 million-member National Association of Realtors (NAR) to rescind its endorsement of Rohrabacher. The NAR code of ethics prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Kudos to the NAR. Discrimination of all kinds is standard for the Republican Reich, especially the ones with a wide stance! RESIST!!

  1. 5:16 I don’t think ANYONE needs THAT much iron in their diet.

    Petition against CBP/ICE abuse

Quote from People’s Email Network newsletter today:
Anytime someone challenges anything Trump has done his dopplegangers shoot back, “You’re just saying that because you hate Trump.” We dare say if there is ANYONE left in the Justice Department at this point who doesn’t hate Trump, after more than year of irresponsible personal attacks on them, it is only because they put their professionalism above all else.

MediaMatters – So these Soviet scientists decided to study drunkenness. The first day they all drank vodka and soda, and got stinking drunk. The second day they all drank bourbon and soda, and got stinking drunk. This continued theough many days with different alcoholic beverages. They analyzed tot results looking for the common factor, and published their results: “Soda gets people drunk.”

Reuters – So true. This whole thing was all theatre – a play which never made it even up to a technical rehearsal.

Think Progress – Oh, you mean Rohrabacher, Putin’s favorite Congressman? Putin appears to be another world-class homophobe. Presumably someone will correct me, but I think I read that California’s jungle primary system is going to make his district extremely difficult for all decent people in it for 2018, with OR without Rohrabacher.

Cartoon – Not a big enough sentence. And, to answer your question, not during the Trump regime. Believe me.

  2. The ammosexuals will blame ANYTHING for gun violence except for lax gun laws and our insane gun culture. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they decided to blame high-fiber cereals next.

  3. MM: There was a shooting at an Indiana Middle school today, when is it going to stop?? Makes me ill.
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/indiana-school-shooting-today-noblesville-west-middle-school-2018-05-25-live-updates/

Reuters: Exactly. Kim is the smarter man from all this.

TP: Glad that the NAR did this, ‘prompting the 1.3 million-member National Association of Realtors (NAR) to rescind its endorsement of Rohrabacher.’

Cartoon: I remember this happening. What a scandal. About 4,000 workers laid off.

Hope that you have a relaxing evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. We have all that cr*p mentioned in the vid in Australia, yet we don’t have gun slaughters!
    WHY?
    We have GUN LAWS!!!!
    Someone tell those morons!

    • Oh, please don’t think that we haven’t been trying!  But “facts” and “statistics” and “numbers” are not in their world view!

  5. MM: Guess what these kids are doing in these video games: killing with an array of guns. Big guns, fast guns, automatic guns. And the last four or five campaign ads for conservatives I’ve seen were of “tough guys” loading their guns in front of the camera how tough they were, about to go after those criminals, i.e. illegals. We need a new word for this kind of hypocrisy.

Reuters: Drumpf and his two new minions have convoluted this already very complicated mess into a gargantuan Gordian Knot. The trouble is that this gang of three see themselves up there with Alexander the Great, fit to untangle it the way he did: with brutal force. But this time it won’t be a sword; this time it could be a military intervention in NK, taking us to WWIII.

TP: Rohrabacher obviously doesn’t care whether he loses his seat in Congress or not either. I hope he’s defeated by a young, progressive Democrat from the LGBTQ-community.

    Cartoon: Good old days.

It’s getting hot here too, TomCat.

  6. Puzzle — 4:53  Not to worry JD, the Puddy Tat won’t be able to attempt to eat this because I whooped his puddy tat butt.  I will however look nice in my garden!

Media Matters — As you say Puddy Tat, “It’s the guns, STUPID!”  But I also agree with Oliver North when he says “youngsters who are steeped in a culture of violence.”  The ready availability of guns in society makes using a gun to right some perceived wrong so easy.

Reuters — While the meeting is not exactly back on yet, Drumpf is talking about going again.  Kim Jong-un and Moon Jae-in are talking at a second summit at Panmunjom and US representatives are hastily trying to pull something together in Singapore.  This from the CBC North Korea’s Kim meets with South’s Moon for 2nd timeWhen Drumpf first announced the meeting, I was of the “I’ll believe it when I see it” camp . . . you know, the Missouri condition (at least that is what I was brought up calling it).  Now if the Nobel committee had a prize for flip-flops (not the wearable kind!), Drumpf would win.

Think Progress — Rohrabacher obviously did not get the California memo.  The “lifestyle” of purchasers is nobody’s business but their own.  Rohrabacher is an anachronism, as are all Republicans, to the age of dinosaurs.  We can only hope that Republicans will fossilise very soon!  The beginning of the fossilisation process should be their defeat in their campaigns for Congress.  Speaking of Republicans, did you see this about Devin Nunes?  May this opinion take root in the 22nd Congressional District of California!

Cartoon — And now Drumpf and his buddies are trying to put an end to some of the legislation that came out of that scandal.

I hear you about the heat!  Same thing here.  Today is cloudy though and temps dropped to about 11C last night.  Sunday and much of next week is supposed to be a scorcher.  I think I did to much reading about Drumpf yesterday and suffered an ugly visit of Republicosis.  I finally got to sleep about 430 hours so I am tired this morning. My one cat, Primo, remained awake and every time I went into the loo, he would follow me in and lie on my feet until I was ready to return to bed.  I decided to read in there so I took in a book — World War Trump.

  7. Thanks all.  Pooped hugs! 19
