It’s a relatively lazy Saturday for a pooped Puddy.  Thoughts and prayers for all in the path of Irma [R-FL].

From YouTube (RWW Channel): Carl Gallups Says The ‘Deeply Demonic’ Deep State Is Working To Destroy Trump

Barf Bag Alert!!

The extent to which Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians goose-step behind Trump is proof that they are NOT Christians. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: An estimated 8,000 people are battling a series of 24 raging fires in Oregon, most notably Chetco Bar Fire, which has engulfed nearly 180,000 acres, and the Eagle Creek wildfire which is threatening the eastern edge of Portland. The Eagle Creek fire has burned 33,000 acres and while Oregon firefighters are starting to make some headway, containing about 5 percent of the fire through burnouts conducted on Wednesday, more resources are needed throughout the state. Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that Governor Kate Brown previously asked the Trump administration for help and they flatly refused any assistance:

But if there is wildfire management to second-guess, Oregon’s Democratic governor would direct it at the Trump Administration and its response to a request she made last month.

“I talked with the federal authorities two weeks ago, asking for additional federal assistance, I was told point-blank ‘no’,” said Brown.

The U.S. Forest Service has been helping, and Oregon is expecting the arrival of 200 active duty military from Joint Base Lewis-McCord in Washington.

But Gov. Brown argued federal officials should be directing more resources to Oregon, because of the disproportionate degree of fire danger in the state. Brown’s numbers and those from the National Interagency Fire Center tell a similar story: that Oregon accounts for nearly one-third of the scorched acres in the country. Of 1.5 million acres or more burning across the country about a half million acres are in Oregon.

I can personally attest to how severe it is. Coming back from the motel on Tuesday, the sky was brown, and the smoke in downtown Portland was like fog. I have been unable to keep my window open, because the air burns my eyes. It has also been setting off my COPD. I wonder if the Republican Reich is withholding aid, because Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, is openly bisexual. RESIST!!

From Think Progress:

Rush Limbaugh will be evacuating South Florida, just days after the popular conservative radio host claimed that Hurricane Irma would not hit the United States and that scientists and the liberal media were hyping up the hurricane as proof of their global warming “lie.”

“So there is a desire to advance this climate change agenda, and hurricanes are one of the fastest and best ways to do it. You can accomplish a lot just by creating fear and panic. You don’t need a hurricane to hit anywhere,” Limbaugh said on his show Tuesday. “All you need is to create the fear and panic accompanied by talk that climate change is causing hurricanes to become more frequent and bigger and more dangerous, and you create the panic, and it’s mission accomplished, agenda advanced.”

But on the show Thursday, Limbaugh said he would be off the air for the next few days.

“May as well… announce this. I’m not going to get into details because of the security nature of things, but it turns out that we will not be able to do the program here tomorrow,” Limbaugh said Thursday. “We’ll be on the air next week, folks, from parts unknown.”

Scheesch! How do you spell hypocrite? R-e-p-u-b-l-i-c-a-n. RESIST!!

  1. 6:01  Don’t break a tooth on them (the candies, not the teeth) – you need them (the teeth, not the candies).

YT/RWW –  I know I have said this before, but You don’t have to believe demons exists to correctly call out this guy as demonic.  He has, explicitly or implicitly, chosen to say “Evil, be thou my good” (Paradise lost, Book 4, line 110).  That’s all it takes.  And – who is as much a master of projection as a demon?

DKos – I am so sorry.  I know it is no fun.  In prior years we have had smoke here from as far away as Arizona.  And of course it hits you right in the COPD.  Hang in there – we need you!  It is common knowledge that Trump flatly refused help, and I certainly wouldn’t put it past him to refuse it on the grounds you suggest.  However, I also wouldn’t put it past him to refuse due to just plain meanness.

TP – This is so much like the, I believe it was seventeenth century, “fire in a crowded theatre” story – where the well-dressed gentleman took the stage and said “Chacon a sa place” (from memory so probably inaccurate).  He had such an air of authority that everyone sat down.  He then left safely, having no crowds to fight, and went home, while everyone else burned to death.

In Colorado, before we had all mail voting and had local polling places instead, we had to enforce a dress code – no mention of candidates in attire.  That wouldn’t have passed, because it could be construed as support of any Republican candidate.  Ditto for the robes and hoods,  But, without dress codes, I believe it.

    RESIST AND PERSIST !!

  2. BBA: Making lots of $$ off of this too. UGH!

DK: Heartbreaking! Mean and vile to say ‘no’, and not step in to help. dt is an A – – ! MT, CA. are also enduring fires. In July, here, a few acres burned because a kid threw a firecracker on abandoned property (from 2011). I say ‘kid’, as people saw them leave quickly in a car, after it got out of control.

TP: Seriously… I have a very difficult time listening to anything this man says.

Cartoon: Absolutely! Your comment was the first thing I though of when I scrolled down to see the toon.

Well, we play the Jaguars at high noon, Sunday, we’ll see how my guys do. Glad that you’ve had a unbusy day, hope that you get a chance to just set back and relax. Take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Hey, TC! Watching the OU v Ohio State game right now. It’s nip and tuck right now.
DK- We are getting the smoke from the fires here in OK. You can see it at sunset the most. There’s a layer of schmutz on the horizon that doesn’t look right and sunset is ORANGE, like Drumpfenfarten’s face! And with the rain we had in May and June, there is PLENTY of pollen around to help kick the asthma in high gear. Hope your COPD is settling down. Had trouble with asthma last night, so, staying in the house for me!
Lush Limpballs had to eat his words! Fantastic! But one of my kids live in GA and he is also in the National Guard and got activated. Don’t have any idea where he is, but hope he is SAFE!
Take care, TC. I’ll see y’all all Sunday! Hopefully!

    • If the O stood for Oregon, it would matter. 12

      • If the O stood for Oregon, wouldn’t it be UO?  But I’m glad to hear you say it would matter… because one of my BFFs has a son who dreams of playing football with the Mighty Ducks.  Now that I know it would matter, I’ll keep you posted on his admission.

        • Hopefully, he can correct me, if I’m wrong, but I’ve heard both Oregon University (OU) and University of Oregon (U of O).  I’m sure the latter is more common. 27

    • It’s Oklahoma University, the Sooners. My first thought was Ohio University. Any other “OU” out there? lol. By the way, the Sooners defeated the Buckeyes with a score of 31-16 and the Sooners are ranked # 2.

  4. We’ve all read about Equifax’s HUGE security breach.  I have put a FREEZE on all my credit report sites – Equifax, Experian & TransUnion – and think it’s at least worth considering.  (For Missouri it’s $5 a site.  Most are $5-$10)

But at the minimum I would strongly put a Fraud Alert on those sites – that’s FREE.  It only lasts 90 days, but it’s easily renewed.  That’s what I’m going to do for my Mom.

Some useful sites to learn about “What To Do”

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0497-credit-freeze-faqs

    http://www.kiplinger.com/article/credit/T048-C000-S002-how-to-combat-hacked-credit-or-debit-accounts.html

    http://time.com/money/4933264/equifax-data-breach-hack-what-to-do/

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/technology/how-to-protect-data-online.html

    • All excellent advice.  For Equifax itself, the fraud alert may be better than the freeze anyway, due to the way they assign their pins

    • Here in Canada, there were some consumers, but not all consumers, involved in the data breach.  Equifax Canada is sending letters out to those consumers affected.

People are ticked about the breach, and rightfully so.  But it is also a sign of the times.  If Russian hackers can breach parts of the US electoral system, hackers can also hack financial systems and information systems.  Apparently Equifax USA has changed their terms of service as noted in a Care2 petition:

When the leak was announced, Equifax created a free help site that allows consumers to check if their information has been exposed. Unfortunately, the company buried an arbitration clause into the site’s terms of service that prohibits anyone who has enrolled in it from joining any class-action lawsuits that may arise from the incident.

Here is the petition which is available for anyone to sign, not just Care2 members.

      Sneaky little buggers!

      • They are – and if you read the whole article linked in my first response to Nameless, you’ll see that “Doc Dawg” says he has seen lemonade stands with better cybersecurity than Equifax.

    • I signed up for Equifax fraud alert last night.  I spent 45 minutes trying to sign up for fraud alerts at the other two sites, but every time I tried, them moved me to a buy something page.  I finally gave up. 10

      • Really?  Not only did I sign up for a FREEZE w/ all three, I also signed my Mom and myself up for the Fraud Alert – and it was easy-peasy … done in < 5 minutes.

I used Experian and couldn’t be happier.

And as part of the Initial Fraud Alert option (suspected, but not a victim which generates a Report, nor in the active military), you only have to do one – and they notify the other two agencies.

Huge downside is it’s only good for 90 days – so you have to keep renewing it.  (Unless you were a proven victim w/ a Report number – then it’s good for 7 years.)

I would strongly encourage you to try again using this website:

        https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0275-place-fraud-alert

I know the “Welcome” page makes it sound like you have to have been a victim – but you do NOT for the Initial Fraud Alert.

        That Experian link opens here:

        https://www.experian.com/fraud/center.html

I select “Add a Fraud Alert” – and then select “Initial Fraud Alert” from their choices:

        https://www.experian.com/ncaconline/fraudalert

Scroll down pass the part about the “Victim Report” (well, unless you actually have a Report #) and get to “Add a fraud alert using your personal information”

        Easy-Peasy

        • Thanks.  I filed the fraud alert with Experian.  Then looking at my credit report opened a whole new can of worms, going back to my identity theft in 2015. I have to call them. 01

  5. Puzzle — 3:45  Too sweet for me so I’ll share with all.

RWW — “I wished that I was a nut;  I wished that I was a mere conspiracy theorist; I wished I was an idiot that didn’t know what I was talking about . . .” — Well you ARE a nut, a conspiracy theorist and an idiot.  B;oody unbelievable.  But then he is a Republican so I guess this is believable, unfortunately.

Daily Kos — Or could it be that the Republican Reich is withholding aid because Oregon is a blue state?  Any reason given to withhold federal assistance is absolutely bullshit!  Perhaps Washington, Oregon and California should secede and join Canada.

Think Progress — There’s that ditch again!  Since it has been so beautifully quiet without hearing from Limbaugh, when I saw the story in AlterNet I thought I had to do it.  Limbaugh, as usual, is a lying, hypocritical, bombastic twit, the definition of a Republican.

Cartoon — You forgot one of their accoutrements — a fully loaded AR-15 or the like.  They wear them like jewellery.  Don’t leave home without it.

BTW, did you see the piece about 4 women getting into a fight in a WalFart in Novi, Michigan over school supplies, specifically a notebook and some pencils?  One of the combatants pulled a gun.  WTF?  That is responsible gun ownership? . . . and around children in a crowded store?

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

I am pleased that you are having a lazy day today.  That does the soul and the body some good.  Here it has been raining all day.  At one point this afternoon it seemed muggy but it cooled off again fairly quickly.  Now we have fog.  I went to the memorial service for baby Elijah today.  Michael, the baby’s father, had another funeral to go to today as well . . . his aunt’s, so he was a little late in getting there.  It turns that little Elijah was perfectly formed and was likely about 31 weeks in utero.  Apparently Winnie’s, his mother, placenta ruptured which resulted in little Elijah’s death.  It is so sad.  I mentioned to Winnie that I had asked all for prayers for the family from my online friends.  She asked me to tell you that she appreciates them very much.

  6. RWW: Sorry, not going to waste a good Sunday brunch watching anything with “Deeply Demonic” in its title. Gallup et al are deeply nuts as far as I’m concerned.

DK: At first glance it looks like if a state floods, its governor can ask for federal help and get it, but if it burns to the ground its governor is denied federal resources and material. But a closer look shows that it matters whether a red state and governor asks or a blue one. I think it has little to do with the governor of Oregon being a openly bisexual woman, but everything with the people in the state voting for the wrong party.

TP: If hypocrite Limbaugh had the tiniest bit of principle in his body, he’d stay and sit this librul hoax out (while we’re secretly hoping Irma would embrace him house and all). But not Limbaugh, he’s probably shoving people out of the way right now to be rescued first, claiming he’s very important through “the security nature of things”.

Hope for you and your state, TomCat, that some gentle rains will come your way soon, extinguishing the fires and preventing new ones to start. Meanwhile stay indoors as much as you can, but make sure that you have good ventilation if you need to keep your windows closed. Bad quality of indoor air could also be hazardous to your COPD.

  7. Thanks all.  Clean but tired hugs! 46
