I slept poorly last night, because it was so sticky.  Portland reached 98° yesterday with 97° forecast today, and 101° forecast both tomorrow and Tuesday.  Then we finally get some relief with temperatures in the 80°s for a few days.  I’m taking off my shirt when I go to the restroom down the hall, so I don’t have to change it when I return.  Thank goodness today is a Wendy day!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:53 (average 4:41).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Fantasy Football Reminder:

It was a pleasure seeing Seth at the live online draft of our fantasy football league, Lefty Blog Friends, last night, but sad that he and I were the only two there.  Players, please don’t forget that Opening night of the season is this Thursday.  Please have your starting lineups set by then.  May the Holy Ellipsoid Orb bless your team. whenever it isn’t playing mine. Hot smile

Short Takes:

From Motherboard: Matt Furie, the creator of Pepe the Frog, struck back against a self-published children’s book that depicted Pepe as an Islamophobic, alt-right champion on a mission to make his farm great again.

Thanks to Louis Tompros and Don Steinberg—intellectual property lawyers at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP—Furie has reached a settlement with The Adventures of Pepe and Pede author Eric Hauser. That settlement prevents further sale of the book and forces Hauser to donate all profits to a Muslim-American advocacy group.

FOMCROTFPIMPLMAO!! RESIST!!

From Upworthy: The list of groups lining up to protest the Trump administration’s policy agenda just keeps growing. Women. Immigrants and their advocates. LGBTQ Americans and their allies. Yemeni deli owners. Disabled Medicaid recipients.

And now … dinosaurs.

On Wednesday, a large group of T. rexes — seriously, not making this up — marched on Washington to demand Congress overrule the president and continue funding national service programs.

A press release described the protest as featuring a "record number of dinosaurs," a probably technically correct statement that, nonetheless, doesn’t really do the actual event justice.

There it is! It proves that, even if you’ve been extinct for millions of years and have a brain just over the size of a walnut, you’re still smarter than a Republican!  RESIST!!

From The New Observer: New maps for electing members of the North Carolina House and Senate are ready for review by the judges who struck down the current maps.

The General Assembly approved the maps Wednesday.

Politicians from all corners of the state took advantage of their last chance to weigh in on the maps before final House and Senate votes, with Democrats taking up most of the speaking time to lodge a few final complaints to no avail.

Rep. Deb Butler, a Democrat from Wilmington, acknowledged the Little League World Series team from Greenville who had spent the morning being applauded by legislators in between redistricting debates. She said the new maps are so unfair to Democrats that it would be as if the baseball team had to start every game down 6-0 and forced to bat with their non-dominant hands. She asked her Republican colleagues, who mostly supported the new maps, to reconsider their support.

It’s likely that the courts will reject Republican racism again. If that is the case, the courts may redraw the districts. RESIST!!

  1. 4:44   Looks like just what you ordered.

Motherboard – Well, kudos to Matt Furie!  If Eric Hauser looked at people’s names the way I do, he might have thought again before messing with a Furie!  But then, he probably doesn’t look at ANYTHING the way I do or he wouldn’t be a RWNJ.

Upworthy – It also proves that in no way, shape, or form do so-called “conservatives” actually want to conserve anything at all of value.  BTW, kudos to the dinosaurs.  They cannot have been comfortable.  I doubt those were air conditioned, and it’s been pretty warm in D. C.  Now aren’t you sorry you were so dismissive of DINOs?  (Not you personally, TC, but those who have been.)

Observer – Good analogy, but I don’t doubt that they in fact “get it.”  They are stalling for time, is all.  Like Texas.  Say – you don’t suppose the REAL reason God sent all those floods over so uch of the state was to relocate sufficiet numbers of voters to make the gerrymandering ineffective?  Hmmmmm.

    Cartoon – How fitting.

I just have to share this …  (hanky alert)

  2. MotherBoard: Kudos to and for Matt Furie. Ahhh…..the sweet smell of payback $$$ ! Excellent!

Upworthy: Awesome!! Just awesome! Wish I could have been there.

Cartoon: Game played at Latrobe, Pa. between Latrobe and Jeannette, Pa. Latrobe pays $10 to quarterback John Brallier for expenses. The game began at 4:00 pm with Latrobe coming out as the victor over Jeannette. Latrobe’s coach, Russell Auckerman, scored two touchdowns (each worth four points at the time), while Brallier kicked two extra points (then worth 2 points each) for a final score of 12–0. *wiki

Hi Wendy! Hope that your evenings are cooler (a little). Rest and relax, and enjoy your evening, Thanks, Tom.

*Joanne: Everyone should view this video, and yes…it’s a Heart in my throat reaction/feeling for those folks. Well done, and expressed. Thank you.

  3. Motherboard: Sounds so good to me!
Upworthy: Trump’s policy agenda is to obliterate anything that makes sense within the halls of gov’t!  Except for those that became what we know as birds, the dinos could not adapt to the changes wrought by the Yucatan asteroid, and those who are willingly, and blindingly deluded about that which is, can not lead, hopefully will not survive politically!
New Observer: North Carolina Rethugs can not survive, as above, if they allow fair elections, and they seem mohave been caught at repeated cheating.  So, when do they get cited for contempt of court?
    Whitney Parnell: So sadly necessary!

  4. The dinosaur protest was really cool! Imagine the logistics for getting that many people with those crazy costumes in one place.
How shameful that the Orange Ogre plans to eliminate or cut necessary programs! We could save a lot more money if we slashed our military spending.

  5. Motherboard: Kudos to Matt Furie. I understand he not only stopped the further sales of Hauser’s alt-right version of Pepe and made Hauser donate the proceeds (which sadly there will have been) of this anti-Muslim piece of garbage to, oh irony, a Muslim-American advocacy group, but Furie is also ready to revive Pepe again to make him and his friends models for love and understanding. 03

Upworthy: As you say, TomCat, even dinosaurs have a better understanding of what the country needs than Drumpf and Republicans. The only thing Drumpf has managed to stimulate in America is creative humor.

Observer: If Drumpf hasn’t appointed new judges to the NC courts, chances are they’ll reject these biased “re-draws” again and will have them corrected according to election laws. Let’s hope it doesn’t take them too long to do that and elections in 2018 can proceed based on adequate maps.

Keep your cool, TomCat, until temperatures finally drop to normal levels, and hopefully stay there for the rest of the year.

  6. Puzzle — 3:43  No horsie fricassée tonight Puddy Tat!

Motherboard — OK, so Hauser admitted to the copyright infringement, ceased sales and turned over the profits to CAIR.  But it would appear that Post Hill is still going to publish Hauser’s book in hardcover in November 2017.  More fights for Pepe in the not too distant future?

Upworthy — Dino-Might!!!  Extinction of T rexes is highly overstated.

New Observer — One can only hope that the courts reject this lame map too and redraw it fairly for all.  Interesting to see that there is a Republican who voted against this new map, and supports a non partisan commission to draw the maps after each census.

Cartoon — 122 years of football — wouldn’t that make an epic binge watching session if it were all on tape!

Like Portland, it has been very hot and humid here in Metro Vancouver.  As I live away from the open water, it gets hotter here than in Vancouver city — today was 34 C (93 F).  Much of this coming week is supposed to be the same.

  7. Thanks all!  Heat Exhausted Hugs! 19
