I’m hurrying to get this posted to give God time to respond to the prayer in today’s cartoon.  I’ll publish the lead article this afternoon.  I’m so ready for my shower!

Later:  God has made his intentions clear.  RESIST!!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:31 (average 6:24).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MoveOn Channel): Resistance Summer Cookout

Kudos! Not all of us can do the same things, but we must all do what we can to RESIST!!

From Washington Post: A frantic search continued Monday for 10 sailors missing after a collision between a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer and an oil tanker three times its size off Singapore.

Meanwhile, The U.S. Navy pushed ahead with investigations into the “the facts and circumstances” of the collision involving the USS John S. McCain — the second such incident between a U.S. warship and commercial vessel in the Pacific region this summer.

The John S. McCain arrived at the Changi Naval Base in Singapore, and photos showed a large hole in its side at the waterline. More than 14 hours after the collision, there had been no word of any progress with the hunt for the missing sailors.

Thoughts and prayers for the injured and families of the dead sailors. Could Republican incompetence be trickling down to Captains so fast? RESIST!!

From YouTube (Media Matters Channel): Trump defends neo-Nazis, as seen previously On Fox News

Since all the hate Trump spewed Tuesday came directly from Religious Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, it is clear that hate, Nazism, racism, and white supremacy are not just Trump problems. They are Republican problems. RESIST!!

  1. . Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017 LIVE Broadcast (CC) https://www.nasa.gov/eclipselive/#NASA+TV+Public+Channel .

    • Regarding the live broadcast of the Solar Eclipse, it was from 9 AM to 1 PM Pacific time.
There may be some replays. Go to the site link above.

I watched it all and it was most enjoyable and fascinating. There was one part where the entire crowd, in one of the towns, was watching it and they all disappeared when the eclipse was total, completely dark. It was an awesome morning for me.

Here in Sonoma, it was a very overcast morning and I did noticed a bit of darkness during the eclipse. Otherwise, the live broadcast was well worth watching and I did not have to have the special eclipse watching glasses. lol.

  2. Lost my comment, ugh! MO: What a wonderful idea for a cookout! Also, everyone needs health care, this is for ALL of us! ‘We’re ALL worth it !”

WP: My heart is heavy with this news, 10 missing, and 5 injured, I hope the rescue finds the missing sailors. btw…when Voldemort was initially told of the incident, this was his reply…”That’s too bad.”

MM: Voldemort incites this violence, and condones this every.single.day. barf!!

Cartoon: KUDOS! This is absolutely one of the BEST cartoons I’ve seen!

Best to you, this afternoon, take good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Twitler’s very first response when asked about the naval tragedy:

    “That’s too bad.”

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/20/world/asia/uss-john-mccain-collision-merchant-ship.html?mcubz=0&_r=1

As a parent, when your child’s Little League baseball game gets rained out, you might respond, “That’s too bad.”

As a parent, when your child knocks the top scoop of his double-dip ice cream cone to the ground, you might respond, “That’s too bad.”

When you’re the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Military and you learn that TEN of our sailors are lost at sea you sure as hell to not simply respond with “That’s too bad.”

If it doesn’t affect him personally, he really doesn’t care.  What an asshole!

  4. Thanks all (so far).  Here, where the totality was 99.4%  it got dusky, but not dark.  Unfortunately, there was no drop in temperature.  May we all live to see the next one! 26

  5. 6:23  Who needs an eclipse with that much tree cover?

Well, now, this is an issue I haven’t been following.  As if North Carolina didn’t have enough problems!    You can only sign if you live in North Carolina, but look at it anyway.  I had not heard of “garbage juice,” but if this veto gets overridden, and maybe even if it doesn’t, we are sure to be hearing about it down the road.

New parody website from The Wilderness Society

MoveOn – I think it dilutes us, trying to do what we can’t do well.  As you say, we need to do what we CAN.

WaPo – Saw this last night with sorrow.  Even more sorrow to hear they are not finding people.

YT – I don’t think I can possibly watch Hannity, or at least without special glasses – but I don’t think they make those for gasbags yet.

Cartoon – Yup.  Didn’t even get dusky here.  And we were at 92% or so.

  6. Puzzle — 4:16  I had a poster very much like this that I hung in my room when I was 20ish.  I used to lie in bed and let my imagination take me places.  I think I still have it in the basement.

Thanks to Jim for the links for the eclipse.  That was the only way I had to experience it.  Here just looked like a cloudy day but it is sunny now . . . oh and the temperature here hit 29 C (84 F) but it was remarkably comfortable with winds from the west ay 9 km/hr and 37% humidity.

Move On — “Not all of us can do the same things, but we must all do what we can to RESIST!!” — I do so agree!  Because I am a Canuck, there is lots I cannot do.  But I can add my voice through posts and encouraging others to resist, like with the “Resist, Persist and Remove” signs on my posts.  BTW JD, this sign you did is awesome!  How can anyone not resist with a little cutie like this doing the asking and praying?!

Washington Post — The fourth collision in about 3 months!  Could it be that money is not being spent in the right areas like training and maintenance?  I hope an honest assessment is under way —- not a political assessment — and that those responsible will be held accountable, and I mean those responsible right up to and including the Joint Chiefs.  With so many collisions in such a short time, there is definitely a systemic problem.  And such problems have resulted in deaths that should never have occurred.  Condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

Media Matters — “… Faux Noise, it is clear that hate, Nazism, racism, and white supremacy are not just Trump problems. They are Republican problems.” — AMEN!!!  There should have been a barf bag alert on this, but I suppose that you felt it was not needed because of the picture of Drumpf and Hannity.  Lincoln is curling his toes up and spinning in his grave at what Republicans have become.

Cartoon — Well your prayer worked in some areas, but only for a few minutes.  It will take longer than that to rid yourselves of Drumpf and the deplorable Republicans!

  7. MO: Can’t view the video, but I think the general idea is that resistance comes in many, often very individual forms and may not look like much on its own, but bundled together this resistance is strong and unbreakable.16

WP: My heart weeps for those 10 missing marines, as well for those seven killed in a similar collision only a month ago. It is one of the most busy commercial shipping areas in the world, perhaps it isn’t the best area for American naval ships to be in. Those colossal tankers when fully loaded take more than 10 km to come to a stop, demanding huge anticipation time from their crew which isn’t used to marine ships maneuvering.

MM: You’re absolutely right, TomCat. Drumpf is only part of the much larger fascist, neo-Nazi, white supremacist problem among Republicans. Only they’ve been much more covert in their bigotry and hatred and had expected Drumpf to be so too, or at least have learned to be more covert. Now he’s blowing their cover, some Republicans are willing to turn on him too. The decent ones left in the party had already done so at an earlier stage.

A nearly full solar eclipse and a shower, you were in luck today, TomCat.

  8. Thanks all.  Very pooped hugs! 19
