Wendy will be here before I finish this article, and we have lots to do, so excuse me while I hurry.  Tomorrow I have a post-op/pre-op eye exam.  Please expect no more than a Personal Update. "Later: we found the keys.  I just got a Mariachi strap for my guitar.  I have not had time to try it yet, but on the way to bed I had put it around my neck to see how it fit.  Then I took it off and put it on top of my dresser, which is out of my line of sight.  The strap has too hooks, and when I took it off, one of the hooks caught my key lanyard and lifted it off my neck.  ARGH!!

Today’s took me 3:21 (average 5:15).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From YouTube (MoveOn Channel): Defend DACA

Those young people are as American as we (who are American) are, and far more American than Putin’s Puppet and the racist Republicans that want to deport them. RESIST!!

From Daily Kos: Good news for Oregon workers in the retail and fast food industries. The state has become the first to pass a law protecting workers from some of the worst scheduling abuses employers love so much.

One in six Oregonians receive less than 24 hours of notice before their shifts, according to a survey the University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center published in February.

Now, Oregon is mandating that the state’s largest employers in the retail, hospitality and food service industries — those with more than 500 workers — give employees their schedules in writing at least a week ahead of time.

They’ll also have to give workers a 10-hour break between shifts, or pay them extra.

Oregon leads the way! RESIST!!

From NY Times: Senator Elizabeth Warren used a speech to a grass-roots conference Saturday to take direct aim at Democrats’ diminished moderate wing, ridiculing Clinton-era policies and jubilantly proclaiming that liberals had taken control of the party.

While not invoking former President Bill Clinton or Hillary Clinton by name, Ms. Warren sent an unambiguous message that she believes the Clinton effort to push Democrats toward the political center should be relegated to history.

“The Democratic Party isn’t going back to the days of welfare reform and the crime bill,” she said, highlighting measures Mr. Clinton signed into law as president that are reviled by much of the left. “It is not going to happen.”

Here is the speech:

She said one thing that I’ve been saying for some time: "We need to see each other’s fight as our own." Other than that highlight, "Woooo Hoooo Liz!" RESIST

  1. 4:12  I don’t see a bell, but I’ll take their word for it.

DACA – Sure, technically these kids are not here legally, but when you are seven, you go where your parents take you.  Technically someone who exceeds a speed limit is also in an illegal status at the time of the action.  But what do you want to bet that all these nationalist idiots have done it repeatedly?  And if caught would do eveything possible to have it “fixed,” i.e., to avoid the consequences of their actions – actions which, if they are driving, they ARE responsible for?  I have little empathy for those who have none.

DKos – I see Oregon is leading the way, again, as you point out.  Yay!

NYT – Perhaps the best part about this is that Liz is one person who has been unfailingly courteous to everyone else in the party, no matter where they were in the party, and has, rightfully, never been accused of making it about personalities.  I am getting really tired of people making it aboout personalities.  Yes, indeed, You GO, Liz!

    Cartoon – Disgustingly well said!

  2. DACA: During my tenure working at a local school here, we embraced all DACA students. Several of the students that I knew, went on to college and got their degrees. What right do we have (TX), to take that away from them? None, as far as I can discern. There are however, several politicians (here), I’d like to see deported.

DK: Bravo & Kudos to OR!!!

NY: Shout Out and Love Ms. Warren. She’s AWESOME!!!

Glad you found your keys. Best to you (to & from/at) your eye appointment tomorrow. Enjoy your evening, take care, rest & relax. Thanks, Tom.

  3. The main thing is that you found your keys.  Of course, they would be in a place that you did not, or could not, look.  My problem is that sometimes I lose something and cannot find it even though it is right in front of my eyes.
For example, i have looked for my glasses while wearing them.

    • Jerry, I thought I was the only one who looked for their glasses while wearing them!  Now I know I have good company!  What’s really bad is when you tell someone that you’re looking for your glasses and they point out that they are on your face.  embarassed  02

    • If you and Lynn are forming a support group for that, move over. 02

  4. Oregon rocks!
    Liz rocks!
    DACA kids belong!

  5. MO: I hope to see a huge number of (adult) faces of every possible color in those crowds fighting for freedom tomorrow. Don’t let the white supremacists win!

DK: Kudos to Oregon (again 19) for continuing on a progressive path despite federal extreme-right-wing pressure.

NYT: Sorry, the video’s too long to watch out here, but I wish I could because the article itself has me confused a little. It is talking about a shift away from the center (i.e. moderate) where the party had landed after the Bill Clinton era and liberals having taken charge. Shouldn’t that read progressives? Hillary stood for moderate at the beginning of her campaign, but took on almost all of Bernie Sander’s progressive ideas to get the nomination, and Elizabeth Warren then endorsed that nomination. Is Liz now coming back from that? My confusion probably also stems from the fact that both in Europe and Australia Conservatives go by the name of Liberals and are mostly right-wing or at best moderate.

In view of the many young Democrats who call themselves progressives, I’d wish Liz would speak of progressive instead of liberal to indicate a shift away from the center/right. But perhaps we’re in need of a whole new vocabulary to get the left behind and clean up after the devastating Drumpf era. But whatever she calls it, she is the way forward and the best candidate for 2020 by far for now.

You must be glad, despite the costs and aggravation, that your lanyard didn’t develop little legs and went off on its own and is now back in your possession, TomCat.

    • Lona, she said, in effect, that Bill and Hillary triangulated, that is, tried to position themselves midway between left and right.  Republicans responded by moveng farther and farther right, so the midway point moved with them.  Liz said that moving toi the3 center will not work.  We need to formulate and stand by progressive policies. 28

  6. Puzzle — 3:48  If you decide to eat this Puddy Tat, you will definitely have a case of indigestion!

YouTube — These young people are in the US as a result of actions taken by their parents, not their own actions.  They contribute to their communities and to the economy.  In some cases, they joined the military and helped to defend their new country.  Being told they are no longer welcome in the country is an affront to justice and decency but so in keeping with the xenophobic, racist Republican trolls that inhabit the Capitol.  Everybody must stand up for what is right and just.

Daily Kos —  This should be the case nationwide.  Oregon leads the way!

NY Times — “”We need to see each other’s fight as our own.”” — This is something that the evangelicals should understand but do not.  But Bernie does!  Warren does!  It is time the Dems got behind a truly progressive agenda and took it to the people.

Cartoon — Republicans, you opened your mouths and removed all doubt!

    Resist, Persist and Remove!!!

Well, we finally had rain all night and then a bit this afternoon.  Temperature high today 22 C (72 F).  Oh, what a relief it is!!!  It seems that early week will be much the same.  It is too bad the keys were misplaced and extra costs involved but at least they are found.

  7. Thanks all!  Hugs! 17
