At last we have a cool day, and I'm enjoying it thoroughly.  It was a slow morning for news.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today's took me 4:58 (average 5:41).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Fantasy Football Announcement:

Our own Fantasy Football league, Lefty Blog Friends, will be holding our live draft for next season on Saturday, August 19 at 10 AM PDT (11 AM CDT, 12 Noon MDT, 1 PM EDT).  If you played last year and are going to quit, please let me know immediately.  May the Holy Ellipsoid Orb bless your team.

Republican Diseases (at Nameless' request):

Republicitis: You're so full of shit that everyone thinks you're a Republican.  You need Dulcolax to unload the excess shit.

Republicosis: You're spraying so much shit around that everyone thinks you're a Republican.  You need Immodium to get your shit together.

Short Takes:

From The Guardian: As tensions continue in Portland following the racially charged murder of two men on Friday, the top Republican in the city said he is considering using militia groups as security for public events.

How insane! Republican militia groups would have joined the attack on the Muslim women! RESIST!!

From The Hill: Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Tuesday said Russia's “aggressiveness” in interfering in last year's U.S. election was unlike anything he'd seen before.

“Across the board, the aggressiveness in this campaign was unprecedented,” Clapper told CNN’s “New Day.”

“An American citizen should be very concerned about a foreign government, particularly our primary adversary, interfering with the most important foundational process that we have in this country, which is free and fair elections.”

Clapper noted that the Russians have long tried to interfere in presidential elections, but characterized the 2016 efforts as the most aggressive and direct.

They could get away with being so aggressive only because one of the candidates was an active partner in their interference. RESIST!!

From NY Times: In the northern suburbs of Atlanta, where what is likely to be the most expensive House campaign in history is being waged, a band of conservative advocacy groups is grappling with a question that may decide whether the Republican Party keeps its House majority after 2018: Do you run with President Trump or against him?

Somehow, the groups are discovering, they will have to do both.

While this does not apply to the race between Jon Osoff and Karen Handel, former attack dog for Komen Hates Women, current Republican office holders, who want to run against Trump need to prove it NOW. Otherwise it's just BS. RESIST!!

  1. 4:02 (5:41)  Pretty scene.  I suppose you could chomp a tourist.  Oh, wait, no, you can't – I saved them for a change!

    Merck Manual – devil

Guardian – He really doesn't get it, does he?  Serve him right if such a group (correctly) arrested HIM.

Hill – Most people (to be clear, not most people in the country, but most people who are actively pushing the investigation) are not so much angry at the Russians (after all, they are just being Russians, or, more, precisely, Russian oligarchs) as at the Republican collusion, which is (IMO rightly) seen as treason.

NYT – You are so right.  Speaking of current office holders, did you see the photos of Darrell Issa "hiding" (in plain sight) ON THE ROOF of his office building?  I don't think too many people were yelling "Jump!" because the building isn't really tall enough.

Cartoon – And women have had a love-hate relationship with it ever since.

    • Issa is a seriously suffering asshole!  May he hide in a local cesspool, without a straw!

  2. The Guardian: So sad, and so sad that there are peole who can be so insecure that they have to hate so intensely!

NY Times: Yes, now would be a good time, but, I'm not going to hold my breath!

  3. FF Announcement: Giggle!!

Guardian: Gulp! Now that's downright scary!

Hill: Quite frankly,. I've been very concerned, since this administration took office. It's gone downhill (quickly) since the dumpelthinskin took office.

    Cartoon: What JD said. (wrote).

Hope that you relax and take it easy. Enjoy your weather/evening, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  4. It's a lot cooler here too, wonderful isn't it, TomCat!

TG: Be weary,  be very weary when Republicanso mention militias as security. That resulted in the Kristalnacht in the  1930s and we all know where  that ended.

TH: Agressive isn't the word that comes to mind in this case. How about "assisted" or "implemented"?

NYT: How very Republican to want to have your cake and eat it too. Let's hope whatever choice they make it is the wrong one and Democrats,  i.e. Progressives, take the House back again.

  5. Cool weather indeed!  It rained here last night and it has been drizzling all day.  The temp is 14 C (57 F), such a change from last weekend when it hit 33 C (92 F).  Even my 3 babes are enjoying the cooler weather.

Puzzle — 4:19  I tarried too long looking at the view.  I had a similar view from my room in Bandol, France.  I would go to the market in the square, buy some fresh food, a bottle of wine, then sit looking out the window while I ate.  Moments of private bliss.

FF — I better make sure that I have my password.  It's on the calendar.

The Guardian — That's like asking the fox to guard the henhouse!  Wasn't it one of these militias that helped the Bundy's at Malheur Lake, Oregon?  Only a Republican would think to police and citizen's that way.  If Republican's are so afraid of their constituents, they should leave politics to people who actually care.  As Lona says, be wary of militias which "resulted in the Kristalnacht in the  1930s and we all know where  that ended."

The Hill — "They could get away with being so aggressive only because one of the candidates was an active partner in their interference." — Amen!  Where is smoke, there is usually fire.  Where there is a lot of smoke, there is definitely fire!  Drumpf is not worthy of the office he holds.

NY Times — Can a Republican be trusted?  They seem to all stick together, even when they disagree.  It is all for the party, and to hell with their constituents.

Cartoon —  . . . and it has been down hill ever since!

    Resist and Persist!!!

  6. Love the "Merck Manual" comment, Joanne!

Fantasy Football is on my list this year! Us Hillbillies are ready to go!

The Portland murders were ghastly! Just stepping up to help a woman in distress was never something I thought would be so deadly! Condolences to both the families of the deceased, the survivor and the women that were so hatefully treated by such terrible person!!!

The former Nat'l Intelligence Director is RIGHT! He is RIGHT in the dot!

The House campaign is RIGHT in my son's neighborhood!!! He is trying to help as much as he can with Mr. Osoff's campaign. He is thoroughly a TRUE BLUE DEMOCRAT! Here's hoping that Mr. Osoff is a winner!!!

The cartoon a reminder of a time before women had to wear the "over-the-shoulder-boulder-holder" and I, for one, wish they had never been invented!!!

  7. Thanks all.  Hugs.

As for bras, I'm not real excited about the devices, but I am partial to the contents. devil
