Friday Fun In Absentia

I’m going to have to take a pass on posting today.  While getting ready for bed, my Mom tripped on the bedcover and fell the other evening.  I got called and she was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

So I’ve been tied up w/ medical things the past couple of days.  They didn’t find anything major, and she’s back in her Assisted Living apartment.  But she “just doesn’t feel well.”

They did find signs of a UTI and she’s on a broad-spectrum antibiotic – so I’m not sure if it’s that, or if she picked up a bug while in the ER.  Lord knows they’re plenty of them in an ER.

Hopefully things will settle down, and I’ll be “back in the saddle” next Friday.

  1. Thoughts and prayers for you and your mom, Nameless.  I hope she's up to speed in short order.

  2. Give your mum  BIG pussy cat hugs from my three furbabes, and me.  Tell her Happy Mother's Day and that I say she has a terrific son!

UTIs can be a big problem for the elderly and lead to confusion and falls.  My mother had that problem.  Safe tripp my friend.

  3. Well, moi aussi.  So sorry!  Cross posted to Care2 at http://www.care2.com/news/member/101612212/4052296

Please wish her a magnificent Mother's Day from me too.  And a hug from me.  I don't have kitties now to pass theirs on.  (I have had some who would have been glad to, though.)

  4. good luck to you and your mom, its tough watching those we love grow old

  5. Oh! I sure hope that your mom will be on the mend quickly!
I wish her the very best on Mother's Day too.

Thank you, Joanne for cross posting.

  6. What mothers won't go through to have their children at their side on Mother's Day.

Kidding of course, Nameless. I hope your mother recovers quickly from whatever ails her at the moment. The shock of falling and ending up in the ER is enough to make most elderly people feel out of sorts and a UTI doesn't improve things much, so lets hope it isn't anything more than that.

Take care of yourself on your trip and wish her a lovely Mother's Day from me. I'm sure she'll have one with you by her side.

  7. Thanks for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Mom seems to be much better, and I got an appointment for her annual Medicare checup in early June (another trip up).

We've always done them around her B-Day – Veterans' Day (11/11) – but last year we were so busy celebrating her 100th w/ family and friends that it got dropped.  So this will work out well as a post-ER visit & post-UTI checkup.

Plus my pseudo-aunt is going up w/ my pseudo-cousins for my real aunts B-day on 6/3.  (Again, my real aunt is by marriage to my Mom's brother – so her brother and sister & their kids are "pseudo", although we function like the real thing.)  The "cousins" are just up/back for the weekend, but she wants to stay a while w/ her sister and then come back w/ me later.  We frequently travel up to Illinois together, so it'll work out well.

    Thanks again for your concern!

    • Glad to hear things are a little better, and I hope they become more better soon.

Fascinating what things come up in familes.  My familiy would probably have called your relatives, aunt-in-law, uncle-in-law, and cousins-in-law.

I knew a woman named Karen whose brither married a woman who also had a sister named Karen – my friend became called "Uncle Karen" by his kids.

BTW – There are more good wishes and prayers for you on Care2 from people who don't post here, if you get a chance to look.
