It’s another exceptionally busy day.  This morning I did the most important thing I have done or will do this year.  My votes for President, US Senate, US House, Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General, State Senate, and State House all had one thing in common.  Can you guess what it is?  I exchanged my "sharps" container.  I prepared our Monthly Report and am writing this article.  I have a grocery delivery coming and have to unpack and put them away.  Later Wendy is coming to de-stink the TomCat, help with sole light housework, repair my power chair, and have dinner.  Tonight I have to fast, because I have labs in the morning, and I see Courtney, my physical terrorist, on Friday, so please expect no more that a Personal Update both days.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:04 (average 5:11).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: A lifetime of residence in North Carolina, a quarter of a century of never missing a vote is not enough of a history for Republicans there, so they tried to keep this voter out of the polls.

Just weeks before early voting began in North Carolina, Grace Bell Hardison, a 100-year-old African-American woman, was informed that her voter registration status was being challenged. If she didn’t appear at a county board of election meeting or return a notarized form she would be removed from the voting rolls.

Hardison has lived in Belhaven, North Carolina, her entire life and voted regularly for the last twenty-four years, including in North Carolina’s presidential primary in March. “The first thing out of her mouth was ‘I can’t vote,’” her nephew Greg Sattherwaite said after she received the letter. “She loves to vote. She will not miss election time.”

Hardison’s registration was challenged by Shane Hubers, a Belhaven Republican, based on a mailing done last year by a candidate for Mayor. Mail that was returned as undeliverable in 2015 became the basis for the challenge list.

That’s voter caging, by the way—sending out a mass mailing to get undeliverable addresses, then attempting to strike those voters from the rolls.

In a Racist Republican Reich, voting while Black is a capital crime.

Did Keith nail Rump Dump and the Republican Reich again, or what?!!?

  1. 4:46  I hate it when the phone rings while I'm trying to put it together.

My grocery delivery is tomorrow – the sales change on Wednesday so I get a better idea of what it will actually cost if I set it up Wednesday for Thurday. 🙂

This is why we need to pay attention to hate speech, even when that speech just comprises waving a flag.  https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/11/02/two-iowa-police-officers-killed-in-what-police-are-calling-ambush-style-attacks/

DKos – Yeah, saw this.  Too much anger for just one comment.

YouTube/GQ – Going to show yesterday's Russia one soon?  Yes, Keith strikes again.  And conditions then were so much like now – they were smarting from WWI.  (Personally I could wish that more Jews did run the country – like Jon Stewart – but not all of any group is like Jon Stewart, more's the pity.)  BTW it chokes me up to see Keith choke up.

You Tube/MO – Of course I'm with Purr.

Cartoon – Oops indeed.  I'm not even going to talk about polling today.

  2. DK: Yea, they can stoop pretty darn low to do this to Miss Hardison, and the many others. Glad she and her family challenged this.

YT: A very heartfelt commentary. Good listen, and heed his words.

YT2: All the way with Purr!

Cartoon: "President Truman managed to carry 24,105,812 popular votes to Dewey's 21,970,065. Carrying 28 states and 303 electoral votes, Truman easily defeated Dewey, who had only 189 electoral votes from 16 states. Truman surprised the pollsters and the nation by returning to the White House."

My sympathies to those families and communities who lost two more law enforcement police.
Thank you, Joanne for the heads up re: Standing Rock.

Hope all goes well the rest of your day, and the next two days. You are going to be very busy!  One more clinic left this week, and I'm done for the school year. Take good, good care, and Thanks, Tom.

  3. Missouri doesn't provide for early voting (except for absentee ballots w/ some strict criteria).  But I actully enjoy going to the polls to vote.

Plus I – like most every true American patriot – will be glad when this one is OVER!  (Assuming that Trump's AltRight Brownshirts are all bluster WRT their threats of violence and/or intimidation).

I'm still hoping for a landslide, but will be glad for a sound thrashing.  I doubt the GOP/Comey coalition's announcement last Friday will have much of an impact – at least at the top ot the ticket.  It may fire up some republicans who were going to sit it out, but judging from the $11.3 MILLION Hilllary raised in just three days since the announcement – a record – it looks like it's fired up Democrats, too.

Me? I'm Fired Up And Ready to Go!

  4. Dk: I saw that one, as well.  The GOP is great, as rumpy is showing, at accusing everyone else of just exactly what they do!

GQ: "Fundamentalist religions, mass movements, and extremist political parties (also) offer opportunities for self-transcenence that millions are eager to accept.  They also provide a welcome extension of the boundaries of the self, a feeling that one is involved in something great and powerful.  The true believer also becomes part of the system in concrete terms, because his psychic energy will be focused and shaped by the rules of the of his belief.  But, the true believer is not REALLY (emphasis mine) interacting with the belief system; he usually lets his psychic energy be absorbed by it.  From this submission nothing new can come; consciousness may attain a welcome order, but it will be an imposed order rather than achieved.  At best the self of the true believer resembles a crystal: a strong and beautifully symmetrical, but very slow to grow," if one grows at all, once subsumed by the rigors, rules, and constraints, of the belief system.  (pp:65)  This comes from the book "Flow, The Psychology of Optimal Experience," which I have been reading for a few days, now.  I believe that this has validity in explaining what happened in Germany of the '20s and '30s.  One just hands any capacoity for rational thought to Der Fuhrer, German for The Leader!  That's all it translates to, and that's all it comes down to: " I don't have to think, do anything , except feed "The Leader's hate with my own!" Keith nails it well.  The "permission" the Empty Orange Leader has given his wonderful "uneducated" fanatics, will be played out for some years, now, much to the embarassement of the country.  I understand that Rumpy is to, or may, go on trial for rape, and/or other issues, soon.  That will be another frigging circus!

I'm with purr, too!  But, TC has the copyright on cat names.

'Toon: Rumpy's gaining in the polls may just be smoke and mirrors!  Vote BLUE all the way down the line!!!

  5. Daily Kos:   That is utterly disgusting!  I hope this was corrected and she got to vote.  I saw President Obama's speech in NC today, I hope his message resonates with a large majority of North Carolinians.  They live under quite a burden these days.

Keith Olberman:  This gives me the shivers, it describes the Trump circus so aptly.  I am going to share this one far and wide.

I am with Purr too.  These regulations mean a lot to me since animal rescue is a large part of my life.  I am saddened every day at the cruelty human beings show to animals!  My mother started all four of us rescuing at an early age, and we continued.  I hope one day that all animals will be treated the way they deserve to be.

Cartoon:  This is true!  Everyone needs to get out and VOTE BLUE!

Good luck with your tests and your physical terrorist.

  6. Puzzle — 3:18  I hope you know how to swim Puddy Tat!

Daily Kos — Republicans tried but failed to stop Ms Hardison from casting her vote for Hillary Clinton.  The only fraud is Republican election fraud and voter suppression . . . well except for some Republican voters who think it is OK to vote twice.

Youtube — Unfortunately there is a problem with videos today as neither is available.  Some error message.  I'll try again tomorrow.

Cartoon — Nothing like counting your chickens before they hatch!  Just like a Republican . . .

Zowie!  You're busy.  I did my fasting blood tests in October so won't have that again until January.  I was at physio today and we were discussing the appellation "physical terrorist".  My physio cracked up laughing.

    • Still can't get Keith's video but I did manage to get the second one, and I agree, We're with Purr! . . . all 4 of us!

      • It may be a Canuck thing?  It's working.

      • I am in on my desktop PC and able to see the videos.  I think I must have a virus or something so I guess it will be off to the computer hospital.

Youtube #1 — Keith is spot on.  I thought he was talking about Drumpf but then he alludes to Hitler, and then slides back into Drumpf to stay.  It is very scary, nay really, really crazy!.

  7. After such a busy day you must have gotten a bit peckish (British/Australian slang), so I hope that didn't turn into ravenous by nightfall and made your fasting a nightmare, TomCat.

DK: If the mass mailing couldn't be delivered to Grace Bell Hardison in 2015, then how come Shane Hubers (Republican, of course) knew where to send her the letter to challenge her voter registration status in 2016? It's very fortunate that  Hardison's family got in touch with local media, which reported that Hubers challenged 138 people, 92 of whom (like Hardison) are black and registered Democrats (of course). Hubers was shamed into dropping his challenge and Grace Hardison could send in her early vote. Her family now needs to make sure that vote is actually counted, I think.

YouTube(GQ): Keith Olbermann's message gave me goose bumps. Not the pleasant ones, but those you get when someone walks over your grave. In this case that of my Jewish mother, sole survivor of her East-Prussian (German) Jewish family. The hatred Drumpf's idolaters feel permitted to spew is too recognizable, too palpable, too close to home for me. For many Americans it must be similar as The KKK Makes Its Support Of Donald Trump Official With A Newspaper Endorsement. Of course Drumpf has now denounced it, or at least his campaign has:  “Mr. Trump and the campaign denounces hate in any form. This publication is repulsive and their views do not represent the tens of millions of Americans who are uniting behind our campaign.” Yeah, right. Almost on the same day the KKK endorsed him,  Sheldon Adelson, Israel's most important influence in the US, had his Las Vegas Review-Journal endorse him too. Can't have Adelson withholding his money from the campaign, can we, Drumpf.

    YouTube(MOC): I'm with Purr

Cartoon: It wasn't then and it certainly isn't now. Get those votes out

  8. Thanks and pooped hungry hugs to all!
