In the half a century that I’ve paid attention to politics, most of the time to a far greater degree than most Americans, I’ve heard a lot of First Ladies speak on a lot of different subjects.  I have never before heard a First Lady come close to Michele Obama’s speech yesterday in either eloquence or power.

1014MichelleObama

Michelle Obama’s speech today may have just changed the fate of this election. At least, it should.

Her words need to be heard by anyone with a beating heart because election has gone far past a joke, or a heated political campaign. This election has caused a rift within our society that is resonating internationally.

But like the super-woman she is, Michelle Obama delivered a speech that will go down in history as an iconic FLOTUS moment. During a Clinton campaign stop in New Hampshire, she deliver her rousing speech about what’s at stake this election with the sincerity and impact we all needed today. Especially in the wake of Trump’s recent meltdown and blatant admittance to sexual assault.

“The fact is that, in this election, we have a candidate for president of the United States who over the course of his lifetime, and the course of this campaign, has said things about women that are so shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And last week, we saw this candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women. I can’t believe that I’m saying that a candidate for president of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women. And I have to tell you that I can’t stop thinking about this. It has shaken me to my core in a way that I couldn’t have predicted.” [emphasis original]

  1. We are SO going to miss having Mr. and Mrs. Obama in the White House.

    *sigh*

But we need to work to make sure  that it's not sullied with the likes of Trump!

  2. Such a phenonomal woman!!! Loved this.

I'm going to miss Mr. & Mrs. Obama. POTUS, FLOTUS, sadly.

  3. More than very powerful. Would this even strike a chord with women on the Right or have they gone so far over to the dark side they are unable to comprehend the message. Certainly men on the Right would rather something negative happen to Mrs Obama than listen to this wonderful message of inspiration and truth.

Lovely comments from the commentators above especially the one which said "Fight like a Girl to make him Go Away." (Trish) That one made me smile.

This speech by Michelle Obama, an excellent and eloquent one, needs to be heard  and seen by all young girls, women of all ages via personal email. This is a must see/hear video.

Not only for girls and women, but the young boys growing up to become men and men of all ages should also see and hear this awesome speech.

Here are two other links to use in sending an email to relatives & friends just in case the Huffington Post link does not work.

  5. Don't you wish all Republican males and Drumpf could be tied into hard chairs, their mouths duct taped shut, and forced to listen to Michelle's speech?  It probably would not change a thing unfortunately, but it is nice to think that her message might just hit one of them.

It was definitely impactful, eloquent, and inspirational.  The lady has class!

  6. I have it marked to watch because I was out of the house for almost 12 hours and haven't had time.  What I have read – what I have heard – just now skimmed the transcript – I think I'm just a bit older than you, but I was just out of high school when Eleanor Roosevelt passed away, and then, she hadn't been first lady for a while.  But she's the only other one who could ever have had the – the – the huevos to make a speech that powerful, and I don't believe she ever needed to.  I said on the open thread I don't know who I will miss more, Barack or Michelle, and right now I am leaning toward Michelle.

  7. Thanks and hugs to all.  I'm also going to miss the eloquence Barack and Michell provided.

  8. I shudder at the thought of either of Trumps "Ladies" being "first ladies in the White house!. We all know of their previous occupations!.!! How embarrasing for America.  No class NON AT ALL!

  9. Great speech. Both Obamas will be missed for the content and eloquence of their heartfelt speeches.
