Today is the last day in the 80°s, and then we have over a week of low 70°s forecast, and I’m really ready for the change.  Last night I slept well for the first time in a week, but feel almost as if I had no sleep at all, so I’m adding a nap to today’s to-do list.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:56 (average 4:31).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From NY Times: When Dr. Amjad Bahnassi, a psychiatrist who lives in the central Massachusetts city of Worcester, wants to visit his son’s grave, he braces for the drive to the Muslim burial ground in Enfield, Conn., about 60 miles away. It is the nearest cemetery devoted solely to Islamic burials — and, he said, it is filling up.

Dr. Bahnassi, the chairman of the board of the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester, knew the area’s Muslims needed a closer place to bury their dead. The group thought it had found one in rural Dudley, about half an hour away: a patch of more than 50 acres, past a sweet corn stand and deep blue ponds, where there is unused farmland and wetlands hidden from the road by trees and tangled bushes.

But the organization’s proposal to build a cemetery there became a lightning rod in this small town. It was denounced at meetings and ultimately turned down by the Zoning Board of Appeals, prompting charges of bigotry and drawing scrutiny from the United States attorney for Massachusetts, who announced a civil rights investigation on Aug. 18 into the town’s actions.

“I’ve been here since 1983,” Dr. Bahnassi, 56, a Syrian immigrant and an American citizen, said last week as he stood on the land. “I don’t deserve to die here?”

I wonder what bogus explanations Republicans have for this bigoted cruelty. Do they fear being haunted by Radical Islamic Terrorist ghosts?

From Daily Kos: Rudy Mancuso has just put out a clever, funny, and all too real YouTube video showing those of us who have inquiring minds — just what the world might look like through the eyes of a Trump voter.

Funny, but all too true. When he reached the bathroom, he should have flushed the glasses, or better yet, flushed Trump.

From The Guardian: Climate change is going to halve the area suitable for coffee production and impact the livelihoods of more than 120 million of the world’s poorest people who rely on the coffee economy, according to a new report by the Climate Institute, commissioned by Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand.

The report findings follow stark warnings by some of the world’s biggest coffee producers, including Starbucks and Lavazza, who have said climate change is posing a severe risk to the industry. [emphasis added]

Dang!! When I regained consciousness after three weeks in a coma last September, the very first thing I asked to be given was coffee. They explained I could not drink it with my tracheostomy ventilator. I pointed to my IV. It’s time to get serious about climate change!!!

  1. NYT: Freedom of Religion is very important, even after a person passes on. The bigotry and hatred from this community, is sickening.

DK: Funny, but oh!!! So true!!! Sadly.

    Cartoon: Yep!! LOL!

Glad that you are having cooler weather, send some down my way. Enjoy the rest of your day, take care, and Thanks, Tom.

  2. NY Times: To not let ANYONE be buried in their chosen cemetary is just WRONG! What are they supposed to do when, like ALL people, eventually die? Are they supposed to cremate them, which could against their religion, (I don't know). Not letting Muslims have a final resting place is INHUMAN!!!

Daily Kos: I saw that video yesterday! It was hilarious and terrifying at the same time!!! Just a little TOO real for me!

Guardian: Maybe now, with the main source of coffee in danger, EVERYONE will TAKE NOTICE!!! Climate Change IS REAL! May their coffee cups run dry if they DON'T!!!

    Cartoon: ROTFLMAO!!!

Take in the COOL breezes for now, TC! We had about two and a half weeks of the 80's for highs and BAM!!! WE ARE GOING BACK UP TO THE NEAR 100's THIS WEEK!!! Ugh! Hate the high temps!!!

  3. I posted in that D Kos article ("dmhlt 66" is me) that in the video on his Facebook page he actually calles them "Trump Glasses"

(I don't belong to Facebook, but apparently it's up to the individual how broad of access they'll permit  to non-FBers)

  4. 4:23  Fish maybe.  Yeah, one night's good sleep after several little-or-none ones doesn't hack it to catch up.  Rest,

NYTimes – Either I remember erading about this vefore, or it isn't the first time (I'm afraid that is likelier.)  I remember saying I don't get it – I thought the lily whites WANTED them dead.  [Random thought – are they going to resist serving in the Armed Forces now because they might get buried next to simeone they would have hated in life?]  Dudley – is this where that Massachusetts KKKonvoy you wrote about started from?

DKos – I suppose one might as well find out how one is perceived, just for potential self defense.  Even with the glasses, I'm not a very good racist.  At first I thought that goat was an Afghan hound.

Guardian – Good news for Big Pharma, once they come up with symthetic caffeine.  They will be able to charge through the nose for it.

Cartoon – Isn't that the truth!  I wonder how many Republicans even remember him.  I wonder how many Democrats remember him!

  5. Catching up a little with sleep can do that to you, can't it, TomCat. It gives you that heavy headed, woozy feeling that makes you want to sleep all day. Best catch up with cat naps now the temperatures go down. If you're running low on them, just miaow.

NYT: Many Americans only accept(already residing) Muslims if they completely assimilate which really comes down to forswearing their religion and culture. Where cemeteries are concerned, the arguments used by councils refusing Muslim burial grounds would make a little sense if there was a shortage of suitable land for all, or if a group practiced rituals that truly endangered groundwater or were very noisy, but this isn't the case for Muslim burial practices. The burial of embalmed bodies, as is customary for many Americans, I believe, may be far more dangerous to groundwater than other practices.  What this is about is anti-Muslim sentiments on the rise: as the Justice Department report: “There is particularly severe discrimination faced by Muslims in land use” and many of the examples in the article tell the same tale. But there are positive signs also: many judges have not allowed this type of discrimination and have allowed cemeteries and/or mosques to be build. Let's hope the Muslim community of Worcester win their case too.

DK: Very funny and very effective. What I like most about it is that the video doesn't point at Drumpf voters in particular, but has that these glasses fit all. Anyone can be a racist, irrespective of their own creed, color or ethnic background.

TG: As a coffee drinker with a strong attachment to the first coffee of the day, I think the alarm bells can't be ringing too soon where Java is concerned. And if acknowledging the threat of climate change to coffee production gets corporations like  Starbucks and Lavazza off their buts and doing their bit to fight it, that's wonderful. But the fact is that climate change is going to halve the area suitable for any food production and for people to live on is what we all should be concerned with. And all the world’s biggest coffee producers do is moan about the risk to the industry – and profits – and they leave worrying about the livelihoods of more than 120 million of the world’s poorest people to organizations like Fair Trade, who commissioned this study. Nothing much changes, does it.

Cartoon: Is that Drumpf's? Apparently he not only speaks with a forked tongue, he pisses down on people forked too.

    • Lona, Larry Craig is a former "Family Values" Republican Snator from Idaho.  He was busted for trolling an undercover cop for gay sex in a public restroom at the Minneapolis Airport.  His excuse for why his feet were under the dividing wall, into the next stall, he claimed to have a "wide stance".

  6. We are still in the nineties with dew points in the high seventies.  It is supposed to drop to mid eighties on Thursday, I hope they are right!

NY Times:  Unbelievable!  Why would they deny them a place for burial?  I told you prejudice does not only exist in the south.  Now that Trump has free reign to say what he pleases he is enflaming previous bigots to act out.

Daily Kos:  I just shared this on Facebook, sure I will be trounced tomorrow.  I don't care.  Trump supporters for the most part, are bigots, those are the people who find him appealing.

The Guardian:  This is taking it too far when they start messing with the coffee fields!  Time to do something about climate change now!

    Cartoon:  Yep!

  7. Puzzle — 2:59 hmmm . . .

NY Times — Death is a part of life for all beings.  Some religions have faith rites and traditions that require being separate.  If there is an appropriate piece of land lying unused which has no underlying impediments such as a high water table, then what is the problem?  Can you say BIGOTRY?  I sure can!

"Do they fear being haunted by Radical Islamic Terrorist ghosts?" — LMAO!!!

Daily Kos — Gives new meaning to rose coloured glasses!  Fun video of a very serious topic . . . we tend to see what we want, not what is actually there.

The Guardian — I don't lament the loss of coffee as I am allergic.  But I do lament the loss of jobs and income, and all that flows from that, all because of cllimate change.

Cartoon — The Larry Craig Model for Republicans with wide stances available at your local airport!

I was expecting rain and cooler temperatures today.  The weatherman LIED!  Temp was 30 C (86 F) and humid.  Hopefully tomorrow will be cooler with some rain.  The rest of the week is supposed to be wet,  Did I tell you I am from Missouri . . . I'll believe it when I see it!

  8. It is still hot here, today, but suppoesed to cool down soon.

NYTimes: This is really over the top, egregious, bigoted, stupidity. "God must love stupid people, He made so many of them?"

    DK: Sad.  Funny, but sad.

The Guardian: Global warming: James Inhofe is the "Hoax!"  How crazy is the weather getting?  Ask the question in Louisiana!

Cartoon: So, is Larry Craig going to check to see whether, or not, Anthony Weiner wants to share?

  9. Thanks all!!  Hugs!!
