No Charges

It ought to be over.  Now that Loretta Lynch has announced that, based the FBI’s the final findings, and their own investigation, DOJ will bring no charges against Hillary Clinton.  Nevertheless, the scandal will live on in the Republican echo chamber until Chelsea’s grandchildren have been blamed for it too.  That’s expected.  What is sad is what we shouldn’t expect.

0707loretta-lynchAttorney General Loretta Lynch announced that Hillary Clinton will face no charges for her use of a private email server.

Attorney General Lynch said in a statement, “Late this afternoon, I met with FBI Director James Comey and career prosecutors and agents who conducted the investigation of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email system during her time as Secretary of State. I received and accepted their unanimous recommendation that the thorough, year-long investigation be closed and that no charges be brought against any individuals within the scope of the investigation.”

The Republican howls of the words conspiracy, Bill Clinton, and airport will again echo through the land, but the reality is that what is being witnessed are the final gasps of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

As has become the tradition when facts and reality cross paths with Republicans, the nation has already entered the conspiracy theory stage of Republican denial. For the remainder of the presidential campaign, Republicans, with Donald Trump front and center, are going to push the email conspiracy from now until Election Day.

The conspiracy won’t resonate anywhere outside of conservative media and Republican circles, but should the GOP get crushed with Trump at the top of the ticket; they already have a built in excuse for their defeat…[emphasis added]

Sadly, I must disagree with the author on one point.  The conspiracy is already resonating outside of Republican circles.  I have verified that some regressive left sites are sharing sources with Faux Noise, Breitfart, and World Nut Daily, sacrificing truth to hurt Hillary. Last night I saw Bernie Sanders tell Chris Hayes that he considers Hillary Clinton the presumptive Nominee, that he full expects them to come together in the near future, and that he intends to vote for Hillary in the general election.  I would much prefer Bernie to win the nomination, but that is not to be.  We lost.  Now we must get over it and follow Bernie’s lead.

  1. Well said, Tom. I agree with your assessment about this decision by AG Lynch. Most people will accept this, but
the Repugs will stoke this till they're red in the face over and over. Kind of like what they did with Benghazi. Drumpf has plenty of skeletons in his closet too, that should be investigated.

  2. "Regressive left sites" – boy, isn't that the truth.  Way too many Dems are so afraid they are being played for suckers by the Clintons that they refuse to realize, or even consider, that, while they are indeed being played for suckers, it is not by the CLintons, it is by Justice Watch, Citizens United, and the other right wing "liberal media" who have has 24 years to pound the message that the Clintons are not to be trusted.  (And, of course, the common thread with the right wing is fear.  The right wing is really, really good at that.

  3. True, the investigation found felonies that statute deems means you should never hold elected office, but in court a challenge to get a conviction on without proven intent so convention has become to never prosecute; thus it merely proved she is not to be trusted in any position with access to confidential information, like POTUS (NYT said it very well).  If this is the stature of a person people believe should be supported, the country is doomed to endless war and reduced domestic expenditures for the rest of our lifetimes.

" When the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, said on Tuesday that his investigators had no “direct evidence” that Hillary Clinton’s email account had been “successfully hacked,” both private experts and federal investigators immediately understood his meaning: It very likely had been breached, but the intruders were far too skilled to leave evidence of their work. "

So apparently she skates because she had poor security on her server that couldn't confirm hacking…and no one knows how much our enemies learned.

    • The NYT also did a nice article for the case for perjury against Clinton (lies about the emails).

  4. Typical Rethuglican response described in one word:

    O-V-E-R-R-E-A-C-H

  5. That was good news, but  I just read that the Department of Justice will do its own investigation.  We knew the Republicans would not let this go, they have never let go of the Benghazi investigations even though they have never found anything to prosecute her.  The media is playing the Republican game, too, showing the most unflattering pictures of Clinton they can find and emphasizing all the issues the Republicans have raised.

  6. Republicans know only one thing — how to flog a dead horse.  Republicans went after Clinton for Benghazi through what, 7 hearings, the most recent one being 2 years in length and $7 million, and undoubtedly will continue to bring it up.  Republicans don't like no stinkin' facts.  Now there is the e-mail scandal that the FBI and DOJ have investigated and not brought any criminal charges against Clinton.  This is definitely going to take on a life of its own as the 2016 campaign continues through to November.  Again, Republicans don't like no stinkin' facts.  If Republicans dislike their own presumptive nominee so much, why don't they go after him for Trump University or soliciting foreign nationals for campaign donations, or inciting violence or . . .   They won't do that.  They are trying to bring down Clinton so their own presumptive nominee won't look so bad.

  7. It's not over till it's over and for Republican's that'll be when hell freezes over. They've kept Benghazi going for years on end, against Obama and then Clinton, and they're going to keep the e-mail scandal going until November, and if Hillary Clinton becomes president, long after that. Because that's what Republicans do; in fact it's the only thing they do in Congress: waste taxpayers money by trying to revoke Obamacare about 60 times, start a seventh (or was it eight, I forgot) Benghazi investigation and will surely start a second…and third…and…investigation into these e-mails if Drumpf doesn't get to sit behind the desk of the Oval Office. Come to think of it, vindictive Drumpf will continue this from behind that desk too.

It saddens me to see fractions on the left are joining forces with Republicans now, in spite of the positive message Bernie is putting out there to them, only to make a vindictive Drumpf scenario more likely.

  8. Thanks all.  Special Amens to the Erynator and the Napster.
