  1. I shared the Waterkeep article on Facebook.  For too long, our government has looked the other way instead of stopping Monsanto.  The result is lakes and rivers that are so toxic the fish in them are poison and even the soil is contaminated.  It seems that Autism and Alzheimer's both have increased substantially in the last fifty years, and I believe all the chemical contaminations are the cause.

Salon:  Since 9/11 I have been asking why we keep such strong ties to the Saudis.  Most of the attackers were from Saudi Arabia, but we attacked Iraq.  Look at the result.  These wars have caused countless loss of human life, misery, starvation in these countries, and bankrupted the US.

Grist:  Have you or anyone you know tried Jackfruit?  Never heard of it before.

I will read the rest tomorrow.  Thanks, JL.

    • There's been a buzz around here about jackfruit, but it is more everyone asking who has tried or fixed, etc.  There are recipes for using it in almost every combined food recipes it seems.

      You are welcome Edie.

  2. Sometimes I have to wonder if Monsanto behaves so particularly egregiously to distract us from Dow and Bayer.  I don't suppose that is really the case, they just own everyone.  But in what world is the business model gradually and inexorably killing off your customers?

And can't we all just get along?  Well, apparently not.  Or not some of us.

But at least EL Cielo is trying.

Mr. Ticker.  What a name.  Although I suppose Mr. F***er would have caused a kerfuffle.  But talk about leniency!  Am I the only one who still thinks people who flout these rules should see prison time?

Jackfruit sounds a little like a turbot or a white elephant.

I'm in a rush, so I won't talk much about wheelchairs.  But yes, it's the truth.

Simone Biles is very impressive in a good way.  Certain Italian gymnasts are very impressive – in a bad way.  Grrr.

  3. I read where Bayer is considering buying Monsanto…made me wonder if the political influence would change–first time I ever saw a positive potential from huge corporations merging.

I like that all people can tell the app where things truly are accessible.

  4. Monsanto has got to go!!! There is no turning back from the  damage done to humans, plants, animals, and environment caused by toxic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB).

That's awful about El Salvador…""All of the people captured yesterday felt that they were serving the government, acting in society's interests," Reverend Gomez said. "Perhaps errors were committed, but the intention and the goals were sincere and not malicious." They need mediators rather than throwing them in prison to end the violence and betrayals.

Photos Gallery:  Haunting pictures. So sad.

Grist: I've bookmarked this. I'm going to have to look for this at HEB. Looks good!!

Upworthy: Access Earth. This app will provide help for the disabled with accessibility information. WTG, Matt!

Upworthy: I watched a performance by Ms. Simone, and it was perfect. I wish her nothing but success, she is flawless with her routines. She IS a premier gymnast of the world !

    Thank you, JL for post.

  5. Thanks JL!  Hugs!

  6. Waterkeeper Alliance: " an attempt by Congress to use toxic chemical safety reform legislation to protect Monsanto" ??? Now let me guess, or rather connect the dots…Congress, that wouldnt be synonymous 'with Republicans, would it? If Obama doesn't hear the Waterkeeper Alliance's plea, or hasn't time left to act on it, you all know what to do if you want to have any drinkable water left, don't you.

US sends troops to Yemen: "Yet the destructive Saudi-led war the U.S. has backed for more than a year is the reason al-Qaeda and other extremist groups have grown so quickly in the country." There you have it in a nutshell, something the European press has not shied away from reporting on. We're quite aware how many citizens have been killed or been made to flee their destroyed homes by indiscriminate Saudi bombing and shelling, and of how Saudi Arabia is mainly fighting in Yemen to gain more power in the area in their power struggle with Iran. America is, and has been, meddling again where it shouldn't meddle and of course it won't be long before it'll ask its allies to help them by sending in troops and material too, and above all raise their 'defense' budgets. I'm utterly disgusted by this.

I hope that Colombia finds ways to secure a future for this lost generation of child soldiers.

I'm sorry but having to introduce Mr. Ticker amd Ms. Ledger to make your 20 page rule for Wall street more comprehensible doesn't inspire much confidence in it succeeding.

I only have seen a much smaller version of Jackfruit here, but I haven't tried it, so I'm starting to wonder if it was Jackfruit at all. I just don't think it'll become popular here, there are so many exotic meat-replacements, like lupine for instance, on the market already.

Kudos to Matt McCann for building this marvelous app. It's so wonderful to see young people translate the problems they encounter into solutions that will help other people to deal with similar problems. Wheel chair accessibility is a phrase that could mean something entirely different across countries, and even across facilities such as hotels, libraries, public toilets etcetera. I think this app will continue to grow for some time to come.

It's not all that surprising that the middle class is shrinking right across America, is it. The middle class has been under attack from Republicans and the 1% on a federal level right across America too and sadly Blue states couldn't withdraw from this massive attack enough to make a difference.

Thanks for another great post, JL.
