Yesterday I posted my MLK Day article a day early.  I knew I’d be covering the Democratic Presidential Debate today, and was uncertain if I’d have time for both, as I have PT coming and my helper friend coming to organize clothes.  Tomorrow I have a final follow-up appointment with the surgeon, who whittled my leg down to create Stumpy, so I may have just a Personal Update or an Open Thread.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took mw 2:26 (average 4:50).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Religious Ecstasy:

It was much closer than the score indicates.  Phew!!

Short Takes:

From Christian Science Monitor: What does the federal government do with your money? Take our taxes quiz.

I answered 19 of 25 questions correctly for a total score of 76%. Average reader scored 40%. Click through to take the quiz.

From Alternet: “He’d never beat Trump or Cruz in a general election.”

Wrong. According to the latest polls, Bernie is the strongest Democratic candidate in the general election, defeating both Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in hypothetical matchups. (The latest Real Clear Politics averages of all polls shows Bernie beating Trump by a larger margin than Hillary beats Trump, and Bernie beating Cruz while Hillary loses to Cruz.)

This is just the first of six responses to Bernie skeptics from the Reich on the left that is always right, Robert Reich, not the Reich on the right that is always wrong, the Republican Reich. Click through for the other five.

From Raw Story: Musician Carlos Santana mocked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in an open letter posted on his Facebook page, according to International Business Times.

The message, obtained by Clutch magazine, praised President Barack Obama after his State of the Union address, and then compared Trump to an angry ape. But the open letter was deleted from Santana’s page a few days after he posted it.

“Regarding Mr. Trump,” Santana wrote. “I remember when I was a child living in Tijuana…I often crossed the border to visit the San Diego Zoo. I would hear loud screams and commotion in the distance. As I came closer to the sound, I noticed everyone was staring at an ape in a glass cage. The ape was staring back at the crowd that gathered. With an angry look of disgust, the ape defecated in his hand and threw it at the crowd. This is what I hear when Mr [sic] Trump speaks.

LMAO!! Here’s some refreshment.

  1. For MLK- a thought provoking view from the black civil rights perspective:

Glad you could celebrate a team victory and are getting needed services even on a holiday.

Thanks for emphasizing the polls showing Bernie having a stronger chance of beating GOP candidates than Clinton.  He is also 2:1 favorite for younger voters who make a big difference when they turn out to vote.

    Thanks for the Santana smile.

  2. 4:36 (4:49)  "Macaw bird."  Pace Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is there a macaw that ISN'T a bird?

But – the closer the game, the higher the ecstasy, or so I've been told.

CSM – So many of the questions were seeming irrelevant that I dropped out before I got to #10.  Kudos to you, TC, for your 76%.

AlterNet – All excellent points.  With regard to $5, a much greater danger leading to "running colleges by government rules" is the "publish or perish" mentality which for many profs requires government funded research, and that requires Uranus Inspectors.

Raw Story – ROTFLYSST.  Of course that's why the cage was glass and not bars.  Does anyone know whether Carlos removed the letter or Mark (or his monions) did?  Also, has everyone seen the split screen demonstrating that Trump and Chucky must have been separated at birth?

  3. tough game hoping the Broncos win 2 more

  4. AlterNet: Hopefully, the young voters will get out there, and spread the word. Bernie has more energy that I do, and I agree. 70 is the new 60.

Raw Story: Great story, and great letter. WTG, Carlos!!

    Video: AWESOME!!

Hope that your visit goes well, enjoy/relax this evening, and Take Care! Thanks, Tom.

  5. What a GAME! That was a fantastic game! It was nip and tuck for a while at the end, but The Great Peyton pulled it off! I was going crazy and my old man was really smiling, which does not happen much!

The young voters can swing this election, if they get out the vote amongst themselves!!! We just gotta kick em in the ass and gettem REGISTERED and take an to the polls!

  6. Congratulations to your Broncos!

Thanks for the Santana piece, nice stuff.  My wife and I saw him live, a few years ago, in N.J. and were disappointed with the show.  It seemed as if he used his name to bring out a bunch of people who did most of the actual performing.  And he was not particularly impressive, when he performed, himself.

Alternet: I hope the polls you refer to are on target.

Raw Story: The writer left out Hitler, in whose honor, I believe, the Psychology profession named a particularly virulent form of Narcissism, the name of which I forget at the moment.  Trump seems to be chanelling Hitler, in words, in mannerisms, in histrionics!

  7. Congrats on your beloved Broncos win!

I did so poorly on the tax quiz that I am ashamed.

    Alternet:  Reich is always right!

I agree with Santana, always a fan of his music, too.\

    Cartoon:  So True!

On a sad note, Glen Frey, guitarist for the Eagles passed away today.  He was awesome.

  8. Chuckles for both the cartoon and Santana – both spot on.  As is  Robert Reich….

  9. Good luck with your surgeon's appointment tomorrows, TomCat. I'm sure everything will be fine and this will be indeed the last appointment you'll have with him.

`CSM: Congratulations on your far above average score, TomCat. Although I was slightly baffled by the source your score had me decide to have a look to learn, but the introduction cut that short.

Alternet: According to Robert Reich the polls show that Hillary Clinton loses to Ted Cruz!? Say it isn't so!. Not that I favor Hillary above Bernie, far from it, but I'd thought any Republican would beat any of these Clowns easily. The possibility of Clinton losing to Creepy Cruz is shocking, it's time the Democrats are getting of their complacent a$$es and seriously start flexing their muscles. Reich of course makes it very clear that Democrats would make the better choice if they supported Bernie Sanders, but that seems a bridge too far for those already in office.

Raw Story: Never knew Carlos Santana had such a great sense of humor. A pity he took his ape story off his Facebook page so quickly, his parable suited Mr Trump to a T. Thanks for Santana's Samba Pa Ti, TomCat. Major flashback to my first year at Uni, with exams every Friday and parties afterwards until the sun came up. And this number on the record player at least once every time…Sigh. When we were young. And now my Icons falling: David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Glen Frey… and the year has just started.

    Cartoon: Spot on.
