Because I expect a very busy day today, preparing to return home on Wednesday, this is my only article today.

Religious Ecstasy:

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Moments after its conclusion on Sunday night, President Obama’s speech about combating ISIS came under heavy criticism from people with zero better ideas.

The President’s proposals, ranging from coalition air strikes against ISIS to beefing up intelligence about potential terrorists, were blasted for being “nothing new,” with the harshest criticism coming from people with nothing new.

“I was incredibly frustrated hearing the President say he would destroy ISIS,” New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told CNN. “ISIS needs to be obliterated.”

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz shared Christie’s scathing assessment of Obama’s speech. “The President seems to think that ISIS will go away just by us bombing them,” Cruz said. “If I am President, I will bomb them so hard that will feel like they have been triple-bombed.”

Andy is reporting straight news again. 😉

From YouTube:

Click here for a transcript of Obama’s speech.  Your thoughts?

From NY Times: The international climate change negotiations entering their second and final week encompass a vast and complicated array of political, economic and legal questions. But at bottom, the talks boil down to two issues: trust and money.

In this global forum, no one questions the established science that greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels are warming the planet — or that both developed and developing economies must all eventually lower their greenhouse emissions to stave off a future that could wreak havoc on the world’s safety and economic stability.

In a major breakthrough, 184 governments have already submitted plans detailing how they will cut their domestic emissions after 2020.

Those pledges are expected to make up the core of a new accord, which could be signed next weekend. The agreement is also expected to require countries to return to the table at least once every 10 years with even more stringent emissions reduction pledges.

But can those governments be trusted to do what they say they will do?

Republicans are committing sedition to make the international community believe that the US cannot be trusted to keep our word.

  1. One important element in Obama's speech is that Congress must review and authorize and treat going after ISIS as a new war and not something that is just a continuation of the past.

Leaders around the world are too willing to tarnish their countries' trust by disavowing commitments made by prior leaders and administrations…I can't imagine what the world would be like today if the leaders from WWII era were so untrustworthy.

  2. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz shared Christie’s scathing assessment of Obama’s speech. Of course, what would one expect from the ID's?? Proposed conversation to Cruz from Christie: "I triple double dog dare ya"!  LOL, Andy.

Mr. President was spot on, and connected well. He mentioned "Congress" a couple times, and I hope that he gets their support. (I'm hoping…). Sedition indeed from RePugs.

Cartoon: "A date which will Live in Infamy".  My father spoke little of WWII, having seen the dead, and survivors at Pearl Harbor.

The very, very Best to you, as you venture home!  Stay safe, take care, and keep us posted (if you can).
    Big hugs to you, TC.

  3. TC: Preparatory work is fun as you get to learn new things. I have no doubt your cute "keched" nurses will help you out just fine.

New Yorker: It's easy being a back seat driver or an armchair quarterback.

YouTube: An excellent speech! Have a listen. 13 minutes.

Obama is doing everything he can without the support from the GOP controlled and  led Congress. As for Trump, Cruz, Christie, Rand, they are not privy to intelligence reports which Obama receives each day in briefings. None of the four have the intelligence nor the capability to give a speech as Obama has done.

New York Times: The COP21 is not doing very well at all. It is run by the big corporations (read big polluters) and governments from all over the world just mouthing words (lip service) but doing very little to combat climate change. Many people and activists are shut out of being able to participate in the discussions and accords. They say that too little is being done. They are also saying that actions are taking too long and are too slow in combating climate change.

You mean 74 years later. oops… lol.

    • Agree w/ you WRT last night’s speech.

      Trump Tweeted his response:

“Is that all there is? We need a new President – FAST!”

Of course NONE of the GOP candidates from the Klown Kar will be happy until Pres. Obama creates a new Cabinet post & appoints one of them – preferably Donald “I’d-Bomb-the-Shit-Out-of-Them” Trump as “Secretary of Wars”!

So I’ll help out and explain things to the Klown Kar folks as a Q & A that even Kindergarteners could answer

Do you think Pres. Obama needs to have a plan? Yes

      Does he? Well, yeah

Do you think it changes every day as events and situations change? Sure

Do you think any purpose is served if Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, etc. know the plan?  Well, none that comes to mind

If Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, etc. know the plan, does ISIS/ISIL/Daesh know the plan? Yeah

So if Pres. Obama announced his plan on primetime TV, would that restrict his freedom of action? Yes

Other than putting tens of thousands of boots on the ground at the cost of billions of dollars and untold loss of life, are there anything major suggestions Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Bush, etc. have put forward that Obama’s not already doing? Not really

See … that wasn’t so hard, now was it (you Twits)?

    • Jim, I read the article from democracy now, that sounds like oppression of the truth, and the French aren't accustomed to that.  They will lose as much privacy and freedom as we have following  9/11.

      • There is a video showing where the people were dragged off by undercover French Police. It is in the full show of Democracy Now! December 7, 2015 show. I was very surprised, to say the least. Because of the recent killings three weeks prior to COP21 talks, the police were taking no chances. There was no reason to haul off the peaceful demonstarters other than paranoia. There was a woman talking to the press and she was dragged off just right there and then. Wow!

  4. you're probably thinking toilet Bowl again. rivers of tears are in the wings.

    • Boy, my Captain Midnight Decoder Ring must be on the blink, or need a new battery, or something – because it's really failing me here.

(Unless it's one of those  mysterious, arcane football references – for which it has no setting)

      • Think it's fairly obvious given the header at the top with a long used that is a slam against futball and the disappointment the donks give to their fans in the big ones. That's not hard either and no ring need be used. Just giving TC a rough time.  I could care fucking less.

If both teams of any given contest could both lose we'd all be better off.

  5. Update to one of your prior posts:

Read this morning DOJ is looking into Chicago like they did Ferguson…and more heads rolling:

    http://www.dailykos.com/?detail=action

  6. New Yorker/YouTube- I can't say it any better than this

NY Times – Making the international community believe that the US cannot be trusted to keep our word is one thing.  Making it true that the US cannot be trusted to keep our word is something else.  I fear we are moving into the latter category.  And now that a bust of Dick Cheney has been installed in the Capitol, I think we may have to kiss the idea of any consequences for sedition goodbye.

Cartoon – Just as bobming Pearl Harbor brought the full strength of the US military into World War II, trying to bomb Daesh is likely to unleash upon us opposition we presently do not dream of.

New Topic – Please consider looking at and signing this.  I would hate for blogging as we know it to disappear:

JL's followup – That's good; since the Washington Post reported this morning that Chicago will not charge another officer in a different killing, the DOJ needs to keep on keepimg an eye on them.  Grrr.

    • Petition signed. We cannot allow censorship of any kind in the internet.

We must do everything to keep the internet open and free for all.

      Thx Joanne for the petition.

    • Yep, a bust of Dick Cheney in now in place in the capitol. The bust looks better than Dick actually is. Too bad that the $50,000. bust does not show him as he really is, a scowling creep. Maybe the bust will end up in a hidden broom closet somewhere… someday… and soon.

    • Petition signed!

Sad to hear that the Dick has something solid representing him!

  7. Good luck with your preparations, TomCat. I hope you can get your home ready by Wednesday.

The New Yorker: Sorry, Andy, not funny. This isn't satire, this is exactly what the GOP does in reality.

You Tube: I've never thought bombing the whole region untill not a stone is left standing on another and most civilians were either killed, fleeing or joining Da'esh was a good idea. Going after the money and how they support themselves, cutting them off from all their life sources, including Saudi Arabia and Big Oil and weapon merchant would be more effective, but that would also ask for good look at ourselves and the role the West is playing in all of this madness.

NY Times: Republicans are not making the international community believe that America is untrustworthy, the community knows America is not to be trusted. You can thank two Bush dynasties, a Congress full of madmen and a busload of maniacal presidential candidates from the GOP for that.

Cartoon: Yup and with equally devastating results.

  8. WRT your Cartoon –

The GOP would also like to reprise interring people again in camps – only this time Muslims.  Well, at least the ones they’d still let live.

“Constitution? We don’t need no stinkin’ Constitution.”

    • Today Trump said he doesn't even want to let US citizens who are Muslim to re=enter the US and the Congress is trying to restrict US citizens who are Iranian from travel to Europe…

  9. Wow. Andy was so spot on this time, it was SCARY!

  10. Andy is great!

See my story posting, at C2 about "This is Fascism…"

Regarding Pearl Harbor, read "Japan, 1941, Countdown to Infamy" by Eri Hotta.  Part of the lesson she points out is how Hirohito, and other leaders were drawn ahead, into decisions they would otherwise, apparently, not have made, by their own social pressure to not, individually,  seem weak.  This process seems to begoing on on our very own beloved Far Frigging Right!

  11. Glad you are getting to go home.

The New Yorker:  Andy seems so real with this one I almost thought I was reading fact.  I watched the Presiden'ts address and felt he said all he can say now.  I fully expected the Republicans to trounce him since that is all they ever do.  They never have a solution, either.

The New York Times:  I agree with you, they are committing sedition, but they have done that before with no repercussions.  We all need this accord to work.

Cartoon:  My favorite uncle was at Pearl Harbor that day, luckily he survived.  He was one of the few vets I have known who would talk about their experiences.  He made it real to us.  We thought our country would never go through anything like that again, but here we are.

I am having problems with C2 and my email.  I will try to cross post this.  Wish me luck.

  12. Thanks all!!  Hugs until tomorrow!!
