Another month has arrived,  and I’m enjoying the thought that the next time I begin a month, I will do so from home.  Yesterday George and walked the furthest we have to date.  Today, the plan is learning to get back up after a fall.  I received a care package from Judi today.  Somehow I get the feeling my blood sugar might become a bit elevated!! Smile with tongue out

Short Takes:

From The New Yorker: Calling criticism of her misrepresentations about Planned Parenthood “typical left-wing tactics,” the Presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said, on Sunday, “I will not be bullied into telling the truth.”

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” the former Hewlett-Packard C.E.O. denied that spreading misinformation about Planned Parenthood was “in any way incendiary,” but added, “What is truly incendiary is demanding that someone who is seeking the highest office in the land stop lying.”

Fiorina noted that many of her rivals for the Republican nomination—including Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Ted Cruz—had successfully used lying as a key element of their campaign strategies. “All I am trying to do is level the playing field,” she said.

Andy is spot-on about Crazy Carly!!

From Daily Kos: Once again, the people who watch Fox News are demonstrating their appalling lack of decency and, ironically in this case, respect for human life. News reports about an active shooter situation at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs are still somewhat vague as to the shooter’s motives and the status of victims. There are confirmed reports of police officers wounded by gunfire, and citizens are virtually trapped in nearby shops as they await a conclusion.

In the heat of this live crisis the Fox News website is hosting some of the most nauseating responses imaginable. [Faux Noise delinked].  They run the gamut of hateful rhetoric from anti-choice extremism (“Too bad the abortion doctor and the nursing staff weren’t all killed.”) to overt racism (“I know this isn’t PC….but n***gers are just plain bad news.”). Never mind that there is little information about the shooter or his motives (he has been identified in one report as a white male), the Fox News audience is focused entirely on their inbred hostilities toward minorities, women, and President Obama, whom some are accusing of setting this up.

  1. Didn't know sugar-free could raise the blood sugar TC.

Sounds like George is helping you feel more confident in plan to return home.  Seniors get taught about getting up from a fall as a component of their fall prevention classes.  I'm told it feels empowering to know you can do it.

    Andy is indeed spot-on!

We do indeed need to do something to get us back a news media that adheres to journalism's standards of ethics.

    Poor cabbie.

    Thanks for remembering Rosa.

  2. Getting up from a fall? I do hope they don't drop you too hard, TomCat ;-))) Sounds like being driven hard by PT and OT suits you fine. Keep it up.

The New Yorker: Andy is a master of reading between the lines. This is what Carly Fiorina would have said, given half a chance. It certainly is what she is thinking. From the way Republicans and their base simply ignore all truth and put their fingers in their ears and start singing loudly when the lies and deceptions by the candidates are pointed out to them, I predict that the candidates will lie even more, no longer apologize for doing so and openly vent their racism and bigotry. And get big cheers from the crowd. They have passed the point of no return for common decency long ago.

Daily Kos: You forgot the barf bag alert. This one gets a 4.5 barf bag rating from me. Fortunately the article wasn't long enough to have me call 911 (or 112 which we call here). As I've just said above: Republican extremists (?) have passed the point of no return for common decency long ago. They're not even pretending to be human any longer.

Alternet: The victim was still in the ER when the police and council started to drag their feet. Of course the gunman will deny that it is a hate crime against a random Muslim man and will come up with some other reason he had to shoot this cabdriver in the back with a rifle. He probably had to stand his ground and was lucky that the cabdriver also had to stand and wait for his fare, while he got his rifle from the house so he could finish standing his ground. And then he gets acquitted, what else?

Cartoon: Sadly, each December 1st there is more than enough reason to commemorate Rosa Parks again. She'll be with us for a long time to come.

  3. New Yorker: Carly certainly doesn't know what she is made of. lol.

Kos: Should have been labeled a 5 barf bag alert! After the first few comments, I stopped reading them. The NSA should keep tabs on all of the people who wrote in to the Faux Noise website during its broadcast. Totally disgusting!

Alternet: The FBI needs to go after the man who shot the cabbie and arrest him on a hate crime charge and send him to prison for life where he cannot harm another innocent.

Cartoon: Rose Parks – an understated hero for civil rights.

  4. There are different kinds of sugar substitutes used, and, like JL, I didn't know any of them could raise blood sugar.  One, I think it is sorbitol, can cause Republicosis (though probaby not in the quantities in a CARE package).  Aspartame is known to be catastrophic for people with phenylketonuria, but since that is like one in a couple of million, they got away with a warning (I do know people who get headaches from it though.)  Saccharine – doesn't that cause cancer in lab rats?  I am perfectly comfortable with it in lip gloss myself.  I know stevia exists, but I'm not up on it, so can't comment.

Just be careful if you fall not to injure a shoulder.  I can get up from a fall with comparative ease IF I can use both shoulders.  If not, it's "call 911" time.

I would say "Crazy Carly" is crazy like a fox, except that would be an insult to the character and motives of foxes.  Just notice she manages to take care of Carly Fiorina just fine.

DKos – Too bad, Jim, you missed the best one – "This shooter is a HERO!  All life is precious. and must be protected, from cradle to grave!"  Inconsistent on so many levels it almost defies analysis.  The user name of "RepubsBuiltThat" is perfect.

AlterNet – That kind of reminded me of Dylan Roof.  Shooting a stranger is one thing.  Shooting a stranger from whom you have just accepted a service and/or courtesy is something else.

Cartoon – The Nation has a piece on how Rosa Parks is getting – I hate to say whitewashed – but turned into something she wasn't, just as Helen Keller has been.  http://www.thenation.com/article/10-myths-about-rosa-parks/

New topic – TC wrote about Laquan McDonald a couple of days ago, in connection with a petition to Rahm Emanuel to resign.  There is some new information in this (besides the fact that the Chief of Police is now the designated scapegoat), specifically that a surveillance video from a nearby business was seized at the time of the shooting, and, when retunred, had over an hour missing.  Here's the petition on that:  http://forcechange.com/149729/charge-officers-who-allegedly-erased-shooting-video-of-black-teen/

  5. Rather than "George" I think you should have named your prosthesis "Bye".

Because then when people ask how you're getting around you can tell them, "Well, I usually just walk on Bye."

(Kinda of like in medical school Anatomy when we named our cadaver "Abra" – so he'd be "Abra Cadaver")

  6. New Yorker: Andy made me laugh.

DK: Appalling! Sickening! but isn't this what Repugs do best?? UGH !!

AlterNet: I hope that he will be all right, this is so sad. Arrest, and send him to prison. This, imho, is a hate crime!

Thank you for Ms. Parks' picture. What a wonderful lady, and Hero for Civil Rights.

Hope that your 'Fall' went okay…and that you are back in the saddle, so to speak. Enjoy your evening, and take good care, Thanks, Tom.

    *Nameless: your comment is Priceless!

  7. The New Yorker:  If she could tell the truth, this article by Andy would do it.

DailyKos:  Sickening, isn't it?  How can people be so hateful and mean spirited?

Alternet:  Really? They don't know if it was a hate crime?  Seems pretty obvious that it was.

Cartoon:  She was a really brave woman.

Enjoy your care package from Judi.  We hope you are home soon.

  8. Thanks all!  Hugs!!
