I’m off to a very late start today.  I had a bunch of volunteer paperwork to get done.  I had to complete my kitty solar basking, before it got too hot.  I had to set up our fantasy football league for the coming season.  And I had to clean house, because today is a grocery delivery day.  I’m now waiting for Store to Door to arrive, do I can put them away.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:37 (average 5:36).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From MoveOn: Ideas to Save the Economy: Make Polluters Pay

Let’s stop investing in dirty fuels and start charging polluters rent for poisoning our skies.

The Reich on the left is right again. To his solutions I would add an end to all; subsidies for polluters. This the ninth video in the series. Please click through to MoveOn and share it from there.

From Daily Kos: When Minnesota resident Jeff Gullickson:

posted a doctored image of Mr. Obama’s famous campaign poster, instead showing the president with his head in a noose, his eyes closed and his neck appearing broken as if he had been lynched

… to Twitter in response to President Obama’s first tweet from his brand-new account, he netted himself nationwide attention, a visit from the Secret Service, was fired from his automotive job, and permanently etched his own name into the pantheon of the internet’s famous Obama-era racist nutcases. This upsets him.

But the Plymouth resident insisted that his tweets were not racist.

That is not racist. The Pope is not Catholic. Bears never, ever shit in the woods.

From NY Times: A police officer in McKinney, Tex., who was seen on video pulling his gun on teenagers in swimsuits and shoving a young black girl’s face in the ground at a pool party has resigned, the police said Tuesday.

Cpl. David Eric Casebolt, who had been placed on administrative leave after the episode on Friday, remains under investigation, Chief Greg Conley said at a news conference. The corporal will keep his pension and benefits, the police chief said.

“Our policies, our training, our practice doesn’t support his actions,” Chief Conley said. “He came into the call out of control, and as the video shows was out of control during the incident.”

This does not go far enough. Not only does this Republican get to keep his pension and benefits, but also, he is eligible for hire as a police officer elsewhere. He needs to be criminally charged and convicted to keep him out of police work. If you think he should be allowed to work, he can always get a job as private security for Republican campaign events, where his employers would appreciate that kind of behavior.

  1. 6:03 average then 5:46.  Mouse recalcitrant today.  Possibly due to another program running.

MoveOn – While agreeing that his suggestions do not always go far enough, if we could just get exactly what he does suggest, in all points, across the board, into place, it would be a hella good start.

Daily Kos – I'll bet he doesn't think the team name of the Washington Redskins is racist either.  Some people would not recognize racism (or would not admit to recognizing racism) if it came to the door wearing a white sheet and showed ID.

NY Times – Sorry, my memory is going again, but either Daily Kos or Credo started a petition to fire him, and when he resigned, upgraded it to a petition for criminal charges.  If I can find it, I'll add the link.  If I can't, Jim probably can.

Cartoon – In accordance with the Butler Act, which led to the Scopes Trial, which started in June and was decided July 21.  And, good gad, we are still fighting.  Crazy.

  2. 3:28 No food, I do great.

  3. MoveOn ~ The TeaPulicanTs will never agree to even a modest tax on their Oil masters. It would diminish how much goes into their pockets. Remember their pledge to the Almight Norquist. No matter what you call it, rent, users' fees, it's still a tax.

    Daily Kos ~ Uh-oh! He made a big boo-boo.

NY Times ~ Yes. He needs to be charged with assault on a minor at the very least.

    Cartoon ~ True!

  4. What is even more disturbing is Ferguson's new police chief pretending that DOJ's findings are myths…

Everyone has biases yet racists often seem to pretend it isn't so.

I guess TN doesn't want any STEM successes.

  5. Just trying to keep you up-to-date WRT happenings in Texas, because I'm sure you'd like to know that the "patriotic" American who made the 911 call asking for a SWAT team to respond to McKinney Pool violation of "Swimming While Black" is a FELON convicted of TORTURING ANIMALS. [Barf Bag alert if you actually read what he enjoyed doing to God's defenseless little creatures.]

As a pediatrician, one of the most accurate predictors for mental illness and a future life of crime is animal abuse as a kid.  This Sean Toon guy fits the bill to a "T".  Since I'm already at my two Linnk max, to avoid the "Links Limit" moderation, I'll just ask you to Google it if you have any doubts.  This guy is one Fick Suck.

    • We all probably need barf bags so won't google it – we believe you anyway, you are reliable – but there are ways to get around the link limits if you care.  If you care in the future.

  6. SoINeedAName, I can’t look at anymore of the FickSuck’s racists views. And animal abuse is a no-go for me. But thanks for the links.
Sometimes, I think your criminal record should be brought up before you can call a SWAT team in a bunch of kids having a pool party for a young girl’s birthday! Just might want to stick that in the mind of the 911 operators mind’s before they hit “send” on an all-out assault on kids having birthday parties, no matter what their skin tone!

  7. 5 petitions listed in C2 plus 2 additional, multiple stories with videos and 1 cartoon. Have a look.

Here is the cartoon titled: Attack of the 14 year old black girl:

  8. We were on the subject of Kansas yesterday, "Even Toto Wants Out" and the title of this article caught my eyes – Kansas medical marijuana mom officially charged, faces 17 years in prison if convicted "In April 2015, the voters of Wichita voted to decriminalize marijuana (it was quickly nullified by the Kansas Attorney General – "Goebbels" ) and recent polling shows that a whopping 63% of Kansans want to see marijuana decriminalized."

  9. I hope your helper was there to clean and put away the groceries.

Moveon.Org:  That is what should be done, but it won't be done because Congress will never pass a bill that does this, they owe to much to the oil, coal, and gas industries.

Daily KOs:  He is upset?  Too bad.  Did he never consider the consequences of such a stupid action?  He can deny being a racist all he wants, if it looks like a duck, etc.

NY Times:  I have signed three petitions asking that he be prosecuted, as he should be.

Cartoon:  I love it, if ever there were proof of devolution, that man is it.

  10. Puzzle — 3:28  Love the colours!  Speaking of food, I need to go make dinner for my crew and myself.

MoveOn — Reich on the left is so spot on!  I believe it is the world's largest pension fund (according to the news) controlled by Norway that very recently announced that it is divesting itself of all fossil fuel investments.  There have been several Canadian universities that have done the same.  As this happens more and more, big fossil fuel producers are going to whine.  I wonder if they'd like some cheese with the whine?

Daily Kos — Gullickson is such as loser!

"“My only regret is being called racist when my opinion of the president has more to do with [Obama] being a communist as opposed to being black,” he told MPR News in an email."

"more to do with" means that there is still an element of racism, and IMO, he is totally racist.  Further, Gullickson is one more idiot that knows nothing about communism.  Obama is no way near to being a communist.

NY Times — A comparatively few bad apples are giving a black eye to all officers, as if the job wasn't difficult enough already.

"He needs to be criminally charged and convicted to keep him out of police work."  Amen!  He needs to be held fully accountable for his actions.

Cartoon — Ah!  The poster boy for devolution!

  11. Quite the busy feline today then, TomCat. Isn't it amazing how cats can get up after basking in the sun for hours, or even better, get up after spending six months on top of the central heating, stretch a little and and then are active and limber as if they've never slept at all? I hope you've mastered that trick too.

MoveOn: Of course it is the most sensible thing to do: stop all subsidies and investements in polluters, turn it around and make the polluter pay. Not just for for air pollution but for all pollution, of land and water too. Fracking would be stopped in its tracks immediately if that became the norm. Australia's Labour government had the right idea with its carbon tax, but of course Tony Abbott's conservatives indid it all again after they came to power, which turned out detrimental to the economy, the environment and people's health.

Daily Kos: Jeff Gullickson is so dumb he can't even see he's racist. Those two attributes go together in many in the wordl these days. Gullickson probably is too dumb to have doctored the image Obama's campaign poster himself, he must have gotten it from some Republican Obama hate site.

NY Times: Letting Casebolt resign while keeping his pension and benefits, is just another way of not dealing with an out of control cop. McKinney's PD thinks it will all go away now Casebolt is out of the picture and they don't have to look into it any further; symptom dealt with. So what are they going to do if the next out of control cop in their department not only draws his gun on some innocent black kids, but shoots one too. Let me guess: dismiss the case because it was appropriate force by a cop fearing for his life, right? That's the way all the PDs deal with it.

  12. Thanks all.  I could not sleep and am pooped.  Hugs!
