I’m writing for tomorrow, day 67.  I’m still quite tired, after yesterday’s outing, but it was worth it.  The pain in my foot is completely gone and will be for a couple months, when the cyst will be growing back.  Today is a holy day in the Church of the Ellipsoid Orb, and I will be meditating, but tomorrow is my main concern, because my Broncos are entertaining the Colts in the late service.  May big horses overwhelm little ones.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 4:59 (average 5:46).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Media Matters: Fox News contributor and radio talk show host Erick Erickson declared that "the terrorists won in Atlanta" after right-wing media falsely claimed that Atlanta’s anti-gay fire chief was terminated for his religious beliefs.

On January 6, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed dismantled conservatives’ claims that Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran was fired over a book that he wrote which contains anti-gay remarks, explaining that Cochran’s lack of judgment in distributing the book to his employees, and not following instructions regarding his month-long suspension over publishing the book without notice to the city, is what led to his termination.

On January 7, hours after a horrific terrorist attack against staffers of the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris that left 12 people dead, Erickson wrote [fascist delinked] a blog post that likened the LGBT community to terrorists for objecting to the former Atlanta fire chief’s book, and stated that "the terrorists won":

The Bottom line is this Republican hatemongers don’t get to use freedom of religion as an excuse to violate others’ legally guaranteed rights.  However, comparing LGBT Americans to the French terrorists is beyond obscene.

From The New Yorker: President Obama’s plan to offer Americans two years of college for free has come under fire from congressional Republicans, who are calling it a blatant plot to make Americans smarter.

The G.O.P., which has benefited from the support of so-called “low-information voters” in recent years, accused Obama of cynically trying to make people smarter as a way of chipping away at the Republican base.

“You take low-information voters and give them information, and pretty soon they’re Democrats,” Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said.

Andy is right. It’s one of those socialist, Kenyan conspiracies!!

From Daily Kos: Last week Jon Stewart had an "impromptu theme" of social injustice. In one his skits he enumerated all the black males that were killed by police recently. In the process of his enumeration he had a bad call. It turned out according to the coroner’s report that Dante Parker died from from drugs in his body and not from police action. This was according to San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael Ramos.

Fox News just has to be right once by ewillies

Jon makes an excellent point in a hilarious manner.

  1. TC – if the problem in your foot is a cyst, why not try putting Lugol's Iodine on the area – it is an antiinflammatory and gets rid of all sorts of cysts, fibroids and other problems (but always put oil/cream on the site first before the iodine).  It doesn't necessarily happen overnight, especially with a long-standing problem, but it really helps – there is an Iodine group Yahoo whose members know a LOT about iodine – and more than 99.999% of doctors!

Media Matters – oh give me strength!  They would swear that black was white and red was green to serve their cause.

Oh dear – poor Jon Stewart – the nasty Repugs who never, ever, EVER, bother to get facts right and dance on the grave of truth every day had a chance to get at him when he got one fact wrong.  They then ignored the truth of the rest of his argument (typically) – and like the good, brave man that he is, he APOLOGISED for his error and blamed himself (not someone else) – something the Repugs couldn't do if their lives depended on it as their rigid yet fragile personas would risk disintegrating into dust!

Well done Jon – and well done for repeating the argument that you can sincerely mourn for every policeman who dies in the line of duty, yet still want every policeman to be held to a high standard of behavior – THAT is supporting law and order, not letting the actions of bad apples to be swept under the carpet.

  2. Dyslexia lures KO!  I meant in the first paragraph 'an Iodine Group on Yahoo'…… sigh!

  3. 5:33 average up to 5:52.  So that would be what a cactus looks like on LSD?  I would say it makes my head hurt, but it wouldn't be true.  My head was hurting before I even looked at it.

Media Matters – The terrorists HAVE won – but not because of what happened in Atlanta.

The terrorists won when pants-wetting Americans passed the Patriot Act.  The terrorists won when our "Security" agencies started to build such huge dossiers on ordinary Americans, and to listen to our every phone call.  The terrorists won when the DoD started equipping every police department like an army.  The terrorists win every time some officer shoots an unarmed person with no consequences, and fools make excuses for that (and can anyone watch those videos and not conclude that the officers are on drugs?  Possibly steroids?)  The terrorists win every time the NRA touts arming children.

I expected a time would come for me that I would have enough age-related aches and pains that I would periodically wish to leave.  I did not expect that my country would become a place that hurts and shames me so that I would want out.

New Yorker – I think Andy gave voice to what they must be thinking.  I wouldn't expect them to actually say these things – they are too revealing.  But hey, I could be wrong about that too.

Daily Kos – So we are living in a police state and the best the apologists can come up with is one person dies of a drug OD.  Thank heaven for Jon.  Too bad the people who really need to really listen won't.

    • Joanne, you are so right about the terrorists winning.  I don't want to fly anywhere anymore, not because of terrorists, but because of the TSA.

  4. jigsaw puzzle – 5:18

  5. Media Matters: Beyond idiocy for the right-wing nutjobs to compare American LGBTs to any kind of “terrorists”!

  6. Jon Stewart got all but one of the calls right on the innocents being killed by police. That’s a pretty good average compared to Faux Noise! Its a lot better than the percentage that Fux gets WRONG! Betcha Jon corrects it next time he records his show, unlike Faux Spews! They make a mistake and keep repeating it till the people watching it believes it and makes it “fact”!

  7. 4:30  Is that a person eating (or Sasquatch eating) cactus?

  8. Petition — 4:30  Is that a person eating (or Sasquatch eating) cactus?

Media Matters — "The terrorists have won"?  To me, the terrorists are at Faux Noise.  The terrorists are government officials (Republicanus/Teabaggers) that promote hatred and bigotry.  Good on Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed for doing the right thing!

The New Yorker — Andy is so correct, but he is reporting news again! (still?)

Daily Kos — Jon is so funny.  OK, he made a mistake.  Faux Noise has made many, the biggest of which is remaining on the air.  At least he has the cahones to own up to his error, unlike Faux Noise to their many errors.

Cartoon — The NRA makes the GOP go around!  Put a bullet hole in the middle the NRA and one can spin the GOP like crazy!

See you later.  I am off to see my momma.

  9. Came across this surreal photo of an Ice Crystal Halo that a photographer took 2 days ago.  It's absolutely and uniquely gorgeous.  Be sure to click on the photo itself to take you to a larger (but not large enough for my satisfaction) view of it.

The phenomenon occurs when minuscule ice crystals in the atmosphere reflect and refract light in a certain way. The halos can be created by light from the sun or the moon, and seeing one often means there will be some kind of precipitation within the following 24 hours.

  10. Somehow I like SoINeedaName's beauty offering best tonight…

JoAnne said much of my thinking so I'll just say I agree with her…sigh

  11. Media Matters:
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed did the right thing in firing Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran.

    The New Yorker:
“low-information voters”. This made me laugh. Unfortunately, so true that the voters put into Congress all the current GOP/TP based on their own "low intelligence" with "low information". Faux Noise is the main culprit.

    Daily Kos:
Parker was shot several times with a taser. Many people have died from a single shot with a taser. PCP and a diagnosis of hypertension together is not a smart thing to do if one is fooling around with drugs. A father of five. and gainfully employed. Seriously doubt the coroner's report, after all, the coroner's office works closely with the police and the D.A. Parker may not have been shot with a bullet in the back, but he most certainly did die at the hands of the Sheriff's custody. Wrong place, wrong time. Tasers need to be outlawed.

Glad that Jon fired back at Faux Noise like he did. Good for him.

    Cartoon:
The NRA should be labeled as a terrorists group and struck down.

  12. Media Mattters:  The right wing uses religion as their excuse for every wrong thing they do against others.  I am glad the city of Atlanta stood up for what is right.  Fox news needs to be shut down.

The New Yorker:  I received this one last night and shared it on FAcebook.  Love Andy.  Don't we all wish  that Americans WOULD get smarter?  I am keeping my fingers crossed that the President's proposal for free education passes, but know that unless the Koch's are getting something from it, the House will probably defeat it.

Daily Kos:  Jon is sooo right. Scrutiny is not the same as attack.  We have many , many, honorable police officers who put their lives on the line every day.  The few who dishonor their uniforms should be held to account and prosecuted.  Faux news rarely gets anything right.

Cartoon:  The NRA is one of many right wing groups that currently own our Congress.

  13. Hi everyone!

I just heard that the wife of our music director at church, Anne, passed away yesterday afternoon from the cancer she had been fighting for 8 years.  Her husband Roy was at her side, holding her hand, as she passed in the hospital.

If I could ask a favour of prayers for Roy and Anne's extended family as they find their way forward.  Roy was taking the month of January off to be with Anne and I expect that to continue.

    Thanks everyone.  Namaste

  14. Woe is me!  I feel as religiously undone as the Republican Sopply-side pseudo-Christians that predicted the rapture on 5/21/2011 must have felt on 5/22.
