I’m writing for tomorrow, day 59.  Please excuse my brevity.  I have a very busy day.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:15: (average 5:35).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From PRWatch: Today, as announced on Amy Goodman’s DemocracyNow!, the Progressive Inc. and the Center for Media and Democracy are publishing new information and analysis documenting that billionaire oil industrialist Charles Koch was an active member of the controversial right-wing John Birch Society during its active campaigns against the civil rights movement.

Many commentators have noted that the father of the controversial Koch Brothers, Fred Koch, was a leader of the John Birch Society from its founding in 1958 until his death in 1967. But, in fact, Charles Koch followed his father’s footsteps into the John Birch Society for years in Wichita, Kansas, a hub city for the organization in that decade of tremendous societal unrest as civil rights activists challenged racial segregation.

Charles Koch was not simply a rank and file member of the John Birch Society in name only who paid nominal dues. He purchased and held a "lifetime membership" until he resigned in 1968. He also lent his name and his wealth to the operations of the John Birch Society in Wichita, aiding its "American Opinion" bookstore — which was stocked with attacks on the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King, and Earl Warren as elements of the communist conspiracy. He funded the John Birch Society’s promotional campaigns, bought advertising in its magazine, and supported its distribution of right-wing radio shows.

When someone sucks nevermind, they are really chewing Birch.

From The New Yorker: In the strongest sign to date that he intends to seek the 2016 Republican Presidential nomination, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has officially resigned his position as George W. Bush’s brother.

“No longer being related to his brother is a key step to clearing Jeb’s path to the nomination,” an aide said on New Year’s Day. “We expect his poll numbers to soar on this.”

According to the aide, the former Florida governor resigned his post as brother in a ten-minute phone call with George W. Bush, after which he blocked the former President’s phone number and e-mail address.

LOL Andy!! I bet he wishes he could.

From NY Times: The police chief of an Atlanta suburb shot his wife early on New Year’s Day, telling 911 operators that it was an accident, officials said. The victim, Margaret McCollom, 58, was in critical condition, and the chief, William E. McCollom, was placed on administrative leave.

Chief McCollom of Peachtree City called 911 shortly after 4 a.m. to report the shooting, Lt. Mark Brown of the Peachtree City Police Department said at a news conference Thursday afternoon. Margaret McCollom was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center. No arrests have been made.

Perhaps his gun handling reflects a standard Republican level of incompetence. On the other hand, perhaps she insisted on wearing shoes.

  1. I could use a simple explanation for my simple mind, because you've stumped my decoder ring with this sentence:

"When someone sucks nevermind, they are really chewing Birch."

What kind of parents would [A] let their son climb up on, then [B] continue to stand and use the DOG as his personal step-stool, then [C] think it's so cute that they congratulate him, and then [D] post multiple picture of it on Face book?

Oh, yeah … that would be Sarah Palin.

Then again, the fact that she uses helicopters to go hunting – just for the sport of killing – proves she has [1] NO love of animals; and [2] NO COMMON SENSE!

(Aren't her 15 minutes done yet?)

    • Nope! Her "15 minutes" are not done… yet…

Go & watch her, you C2 & PP trolls… lol.

    • Needs a kick in his A$$. Sarah Palin needs a kick in her a$$ too although I doubt it will do much good.

    • OK, I posted one of our articles on Care2.  Because Republican politicians were making pilgrimage to the brothers' annusl retreat to get the money, I said they were prostituting themselves by sucking Koch for money.  I suppose the Republican Koch suckers at Care2 reported my satire as obscene content and the Care2 censors deleted the article.  Now I refer to sucking Koch as sucking nevermind.  That is also chewing Birch, because Kochs are Birchers.  Does that help?

  2. 5:52 average unchanged.  Nothing to eat, but maybe they'll snuggle.

PRWatch – Well, Nameless, I could easily explain it to you, I think, but the whole use of "nevermind" is because some troll reported TC for inappropriate language using the name Koch, and the explanation might cause more trouble.  Perhaps that will clarify it anyway?

New Yorker – He probably could legally if he pulled enough strings, but there is not enough power in the world to clean up the genetics.

NY Times – It would be interesting, I'll bet; but I'll also bet we'll never find out.

Cartoon – There really are some grand people in Alaska.  Too bad she isn't one of them.

  3. PRWatch: For those who want to watch and listen to the video of the Koch Bros and connection to John Birch Society, here is the LINK:

Amy Goodman is awesome. Amy reports on news that no one else barely touches, both in USA and of current Global News. I watch and listen to her M-F in the early AM while cruising in C2 and PP. Amy also does in-depth interviews. Yesterday, Amy had exclusive interviews, in London, of Julian Assange on "When Google Met WikiLeaks" while he was under house arrest & Russell Brand in which Russell Brand vows not to curse on ‘Democracy Now’ — then calls Noam ‘Chompsky’ a cannibal.

Democracy Now! is an independent, global news hour anchored by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González that airs on 1,200+ TV and radio stations in the United States and around the world. Live stream the show on Monday through Friday 8-9am ET:

You can choose a video, a transcript or both.

You can get it via Miro, iTunes, YouTube or go directly to the Democracy Now! web site. Yes, I am "plugging" Amy Goodman & Democracy Now!. lol.

The New Yorker:  Secretly, Jeb Bush wishes he could do just that – Resign as a brother to George W. Bush. Spot on, Andy! lol.

    • "The Divide: American Injustice in the Age of the Wealth Gap."

      A book that I must read… 😆

  4. PRWatch – Joanne – thanks for the clarification of "nevermind" it all makes sense now! (As does the Koch family's behaviour).

New Yorker – brilliant idea.  Mind you if he did that then he'd have to forego all their obscenely rich donor friends – so I suspect he will do the usual thing and play the hypocrite whenever he feels it necessary – you can fool some of the people quite a lot of the time it seems!

NY Times – what on earth has happened there – how on earth could such a thing have happened?!  I think Joanne is right and it will all be hushed up.

Cartoon – oh dear!  (I clicked through on Nameless' link and saw the story about the poor dog being stood on and apparently encouraged to do so by the mother – the poor, poor defenceless dog!  Argh!).

  5. 3:19  TomCat beat me by a nose…and maybe an ear.

    • 4:51 I'm using my tablet which is next to impossible. You'll have no contest from me.

    • 3:11  . . . and I beat TC by a curled up horsie lip going after a carrot and a sugar cube I had in my hand!  If it's food, TC will go after it.  Good way to distract him.  Is that a {{Burp!}} I heard?  Stealing from the horse?

  6. A loosely fictionalized version of the history of the JBS in Orange County, CA is found in the classic book "The True Believer."  Read it if you haven't to understand how dangerous it was and similar efforts can be.

  7. Puzzle: Two horses in the central square of the historic village of Castle Combe – 5:58 😆

  8. Thanks all.  Feeling a bgit down.  Came in early, because I knew there were Qs to A.

  9. Puzzle — 3:11  . . . and I beat TC by a curled up horsie lip going after a carrot and a sugar cube I had in my hand!  If it's food, TC will go after it.  Good way to distract him.  Is that a {{Burp!}} I heard?  Stealing from the horse?

PR Watch — I took this opportunity to read up on John Birch and the John Birch Society, which really had nothing to do with each other.  From Wikipedia, the founder of the JBS, Robert Welch said: "All we are interested in here is opposing the advance of the Communists, and eventually destroying the whole Communist conspiracy, so that Jews and Christians alike, and Mohammedans and Buddhists, can again have a decent world in which to live."  And that certainly would appear to appeal to Charles Koch.  I say 'appears' because through the Teabaggers who suck … nevermind, there is certainly hate and discrimination which is at odds with Welch's statement.

From Wikipedia: "The organization [JBS] claims to identify with a particular type of Christian principles, seeks to limit governmental powers, and opposes wealth redistribution, and economic interventionism. It opposes collectivism, totalitarianism, and communism."

I find it particularly interesting that Charles Koch opposes totalitarianism, as does the JBS, yet that is really what he is proposing with him at the head.

    Interesting stuff.

The New Yorker — Can we do that so we don't have to view his face or hear his voice for the rest of our lives? Maybe a trip to the ICC would help that. . . . just dreaming!

NY Times — "Perhaps his gun handling reflects a standard Republican level of incompetence. On the other hand, perhaps she insisted on wearing shoes." — LMAO!  You're too funny. And although I jest, I do hoope Margaret McCollom is OK.

    Cartoon — Barf Bag Alert!

  10. PR Watch:  I read the whole article, and it gave me chills.  The Koch Brothers almost own all our government now.  I have a five year old granddaughter who lives in Mississippi.   At present, she is color blind, thanks to her parents.  What will her future hold if the Koch's take over everything?  Too few American know of their existence or the evil they perpetrate.

The New Yorker:  I bet he wishes he could resign as brother to Dubya.  I hope that does not win him the nomination, and horrors, the office!

NY Times:  Will he be indicted?  I doubt it.

Cartoon:  None of us would have celebrated as we did had we know we would get Palin as a result.

Hope you are feeling better now.
