I’m writing for tomorrow, day 53.  I’m catching up on sleep.  Because I want to make the other story full article, I have only one Short Take today.  Tomorrow is the last Holy Day in the church of the Ellipsoid Orb, before the high holy days begin.  My Broncos are entertaining the Raiders, but sadly, the service will not be televised.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:23 (average 5:37).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Take:

From Common Dreams: Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) announced Friday that he will decide by March if he will enter the 2016 presidential race—and whether he’ll run on a Democrat or Independent platform.

I will support him as a Democrat, but if he runs as an Independent, he will hand the Presidency to the Republicans.

  1. Oh my word – the thought of even the possibility of someone as strong minded, intelligent and moral as Bernie Sanders being the President has me in shock!  You are quite correct though TC – if he runs as an independent he would split the vote and give the Presidency to the Repugs.  However if he ran as a Democrat – their big money donors wouldn't want him – how would the electorate vote do you think?

  2. 5:21 average 5:37.  I saw the word "blur" in the title and thought it was considerate to tell us right up front why we would be slow.  A tasty tidbit for TC, though.

Common Dreams – I am afraid I am with Lona and Pat on this.  However, Bernie has been around the block once or twice too, and he is not getting his advice from the idiotd who screwed the Democrats' 2014 campaign, So I do trust him.  Of course what we need is a candidate more progressive than Hillary who can win enough of the Fox-soaked country to get in.I still think that might be Sherrod Brown, but there might be others.

Cartoon – and has been getting misquoted ever since.  (If you ever want a good old junior high school laugh, though, look up Ben's essay on farting, which he really did write.)

    • JD, I never knew Franklin wrote such an essay, but I have always suspected Franklin was a bit of a prankster, a scamp.  Here's a link to Franklin's essay, "Fart Proudly", 1781 https://humorinamerica.wordpress.com/2012/02/21/fart-proudly/

      • Thanks Lynn, yes he was.  No doubt about it.  My favorite part of the essay is the part about planning your dinner party (requires more research LOL).

      • It was always fun shopping with my young daughter and cutting loose… She was so embarrassed…. "Dad…!"

    • He definately was a scamp, and when he was our ambassador to the French Court he had quite the reputation with the ladies.

      • That doesn't surprise me.  In the pictures I've seen, he is rather good looking!

      • He also had a passion for what he called "air baths," for health reasons.  An "air bath" basically is taking off your clothes, at home, possibly opening wondows, to let the air get at your skin, while doing whatever else you would normally be doing (possible exception for anything requiring pockets, I guess).

  3. Hey, TC! Check on CBS! They are having a late game today also. Both Faux and CBS have two games today. Broncos are on the 3:30 game in CST.

  4. 3:24 I couldn't save this juicy tidbit from the clutches of TomCat.

  5. Common Dreams ~ I think if he decides to run, he will go for the Democrat nomination.

Cartoon ~ Our politicians would through this on the trash heap.

  6. I just started doing the daily jig saw puzzles. I am much slower than you.

  7. Probably like many of you, I was appalled at the childish temper tantrum “protests” of the NYPD when they turned their backs on Mayor Bill de Blasio at the funeral of one of their own.

Came across this great Tweet perfectly summarizing my feelings:

Complete list of groups who stage protests at funerals:

    Westboro Baptist Church

    New York Police Department

    • Since I first read about this very childish action by some members of the NYPD, I have wondered just how Officer Rafael Ramos would have reacted had he been at another officer's funeral.  I have read about him being a man of integrity, a marriage counsellor, an active member of his church, and studying to be a chaplain.  I don't think he would have turned his back, but I may be wrong since I didn't personally know him. However IMO, when the officers turned their backs to de Blasio, they turned their backs on Ramos.  How's that for respect?

  8. Puzzle — 3:17  Fortunately Patty, you didn't have to.  That hyper salivating puddy tat will not get his chompers on you Duckie!  No duck fricassée for TC, so stop your drooling!

Common Dreams — I hope Bernie does run as a Democrat because lord knows, the US does not need a vote split allowing the Republicanus/Teabaggers into the WH.  If he were to win the WH, at least the GOP could not accuse him of being Black while POTUS!  He'd fit right in with their "old, white male" picture that they hold so dear.  But I can hear the GOP already, Bernie dares to be a socialist (or communist for some) while POTUS! And for those on the right who think that socialism and communism are the same thing, guess again.  They are NOT the same!

I will never totally understand the right's obsession with Hillary Clinton's age.  She is 67 and the Republicanus/Teabaggers think she is too old to run for POTUS. . . she's in her dotage.  But Bernie, he is 73 and that's OK.  They must really be afraid of Hillary and the amount of money and influence she could bring to the campaign. I still like Bernie much more.  Having just finished Elizabeth Warren's book, "A Fighting Chance", I think I understand now why she repeatedly says she is not running for POTUS.  To be clear she did not say she would never run, just not now (unless I missed something).  There is too much work to do in reforming banking etc, in campaign finance etc.  The faces of the people whose stories she listened to during her Senate campaign and before, are still fresh in her mind. She wants to honour her commitments to these people.  They might seem just like one face, but there are tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of people with the same problems and concerns.

    • Not only did "A Fighting Chance" give me the comfort of knowing that at least one dedicated politician is going to bat for the Middle Class – but it gave me a new respect for Oklahoma.

If a state as red as OK can produce a Liberal like Sen. Elizabeth Warren, then all hope is not lost!

  9. I hope Bernie runs as a Democrat, no third party candidate will ever win.  Warren is needed in the Senate right now, much as I would like to see her as President.

  10. Thanks all.  I hope Bernie runs as a Democrat too.  It will serve to move us left.

  11. Senator Sanders has my Support and Vote and I hope he runs as Democrat so as not to skew the probablility of helping the GNOP.
