Bill Maher–New Rules–11/14

In spite of his occasional intolerance while proselytizing for evangelical atheism, Bill Maher remains one of the finest comedic wits in political satire, so I bring him to you, whenever I get the Opportunity.  On Friday’s show, he nailed the stupidest Americans.

Real Time's Bill Maher took aim at everyone who couldn't be bothered to make it to the polls and the various excuses we heard for not voting during his New Rules segment this Friday…

I’d say that makes up for his anti Muslim rant.  There is no more self-defeating act than choosing not to vote.

  1. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!  Bill does not mince words, thank goodness – every Faux News watcher should be forced to see this ten times – or however long it takes to sink in.  If Maher ran for office, he'd have my vote…. we'd have humor, decency, pride, and a heck of a lot fewer buttholes in Washington.

  2. Excellent New Rules! Thank you, Bill Maher.

  3. I thought that was great.  Thanks Tom

  4. Just as I've repeatedly said that what so many call "political correctness" is the same thing my mother brought me up to except she called it "manners,"  Bill is at his finest when his "New Rules" are actually old rules that we have stopped following, and never should have stopped.  The newness lies in the colorful examples to demonstrate why the rules are relevant today, and the extreme bluntness with which the whole package is expressed.  This is not a criticism.  G.K, Chesterton said, and anyone with half an eye knows, "The human race needs to be reminded for more than it needs to be instructed."  It should go without saying, but probably doesn't, that anyone as blunt as Bill Maher is going to offend sometimes.  But blunt messengers are needed, and yes, the good makes up for the offenses.  Long may he flourish.

  5. Maher has said impolite & cruel things before (remember him comparing someone with Autism to a pet dog – cruel, but I understood his point at the time & in the context)..but comedy uses pain & tries to teach a lesson. That's why Bill can screw up & NOT be crushed. Ru$h & other CONservative "entertainers" get away with MUCH worse & have NO redeeming value for society!

    • There is a diffference.  Maher reesorts to cruelty at times to make a point.  Rush and the Republican bubble machine employ cruelty for its own sake.

  6. I'm proud my hands are plenty dirty-thankss TC

    • Democratic candidates ran away from theior base.  That was stupid.  Their base ran away from them and stayed home.  That was even more atupid.

  7. Bill nailed it where non voters are concerned.  I share this on Facebook.  If you don't vote, you have no right to complain about anything.  If we had a bigger turnout in Ky, Grimes might be our senator instead of McTurtle.

  8. We just had our civic elections in BC yesterday.  From what I can gather, turnout was around 50%.  I can tell you that my polling place was busy all day long.  Several polling stations in the City of Vancouver had such heavy turnout that they were running short on ballots and the scramble was on.  Like Edie, for years I have said "No vote; no bitch!"

Earlier in the week we were talking about voter turnout.  I came across some statistics for Canada and our last election in 2008 had a national turnout rate of 58.8% which is the lowest since 1867.  The highest turnout since 1867 is in 1958 at 79.4%.  The last election in 2011 was 61.1%.  With so many people fed up with Harper, it will be interesting to see the turnout figures in the 2015 election.
