I’m writing for tomorrow, day 198.  I have no idea what tomorrow will bring, but I suspect that the wait will not be over.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 5:52 (average 6:02).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Here’s the latest news from our own fantasy football league.

Tied with the Bigfoot!!

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: I beamed in to "The Colbert Report" to deliver a message to citizens of the galaxy. I’ve always wanted Stephen Colbert to take me out, and he did. It was transportive, literally. Hope you enjoy this piece, which ties "Star Trek: TOS" to the upcoming midterm elections.

LMAO! Also… Amen!

From The New Yorker: The reëlection [sic]campaign of Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) went into a tailspin on Monday with the emergence of a leaked photograph showing the Senator reading what appears to be an advanced science text.

The picture, which appeared on the gossip site TMZ, shows a visibly absorbed McConnell reading a scholarly volume entitled, “The Man-Made Causes of Global Warming.”

For McConnell, who has repeatedly punctuated his public statements on climate change with the claim that he is “not a scientist,” the scandalous photo threatens to torpedo his reëlection bid.

In the hours since the image was leaked, McConnell has plummeted between five and seven points in statewide polls as voters demanded to know what he was doing with the type of book only a scientist would read.

Swinging into damage-control mode, McConnell appeared at a hastily called press conference in Lexington and offered a terse denial. “It is true that I was holding the book, and that the book was open. But I was not reading the book,” he said.

What Andy isn’t telling us is whether or not he had the book upside down. Of course he wasn’t reading it. Bought Bitch Mitch is as capable of understanding science as Crawford Caligula was of understanding My Pet Goat.

From Daily Kos: Sarah Palin took to Facebook again to declare how terrible Barack Obama is and how opposed he is to moms and apple pies and the flag but mostly moms. Apparently she’s of the opinion that Obama saying this:

“Sometimes, someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. And that’s not a choice we want Americans to make.”

… was an attack on motherhood, because Obama wanting better pay for mothers that return to the workforce is, um …

You know what? I have no clue. That’s the thing about Actual Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin, she has the Gohmertian quality of being able to spout a thirty foot high geyser of words without ever once getting to a recognizable point.

Bloody Bullseye Barbie, aka Drill Baby Dingbat,  is at it again. Would it be too much to hope that she tops the Republican ticket in 2016?

  1. Can't see Colbert – shame, he is good.

New Yorker – if only that was true he wouldn't have been elected.

Daily Kos – I think anyone who THINKS they can make sense of what $arah P says would be as batty as she is – she has taken George W's trick and practically parodied it – but is it parody or is it real? Either way she is worrying (I still remember the recorded interview where she said she would side with her North Korean allies – and I really don't think the interviewer should have corrected her!).

  2. Nutsy (Caribou Barbie) is back and running–her mouth that is——-  .  This is a sad day for the USA.  We have some real nuts in office now.  Pig woman—pucker face—and more—.  If you are poor or hungry, homeless, or on welfare————-you are truly nothing now———-these people will put you in the dirt.

  3. 3:55 Tom, were you blinded by your tears because of the election?

  4. FF ~ I moved up but I wonder how long that will last.

Upworthy ~ Loved it! George Takei was great.

New Yorker ~ Too bad it wasn't true. You would think with the lawsuit about voter intimidation and his Father-in-laws drug dealing, he would have plummeted and gone into a tailspin.

Daily Kos ~ Sarah, as one of your own Rethugs would say; "Sit down and shut up!"

Cartoon ~ Not enough women and non-whites went out to vote or were suppressed from doing so. Shame on everyone who stayed home! Now we will all suffer. Scoot Walker and Rick Scott re-elected??? WTF

    • Patty, those things about the law suit and his father in law and drugs were barely mentioned in the news here in Ky.

      • I keep hearing from Repugnant friends that the media is controlled by Democrats. Bay, are they ever wrong! If it was the news would have been all over it.

  5. I just have to post my score on the puzzle.  A few seconds over average.  Usually I am several minutes over. Best I have ever done.

  6. 5:45 average unchanged.  Not that my heart was in it either.  Congratulations, Dotti!

Upworthy – George Takei is a natinal treasure, all right.

New Yorker – I saw that Mitch was re-elected, and I closed my email.  I figured any more bad news could wait till morning.  I haven't even seen all the carnage yet.

Daily Kos – I would be very, very afraid.

    Cartoon – Yeah.

  7. So we got beat in an election where the rules were rigged!

Tell President Obama: Here are the ten things you have to do immediately now that Tea Party Republicans control both the House and the Senate.

Here are 10 things President Obama needs to do immediately — and 10 things that aren’t likely to happen if we don’t make him do it.

    CREDO PETITION:

Here are 10 things President Obama needs to do immediately — and 10 things that aren’t likely to happen if we don’t make him do it.

    1. No deals on cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
    2. Strengthen the power plant carbon rule to make it your boldest action yet on climate.
    3. Immediately suspend deportations of millions of aspiring Americans until comprehensive immigration reform can be passed.
    4. Don’t commit ground troops to Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria.
    5. Reject Keystone XL, and apply the climate test to all federal decision making.
    6. Save the Internet by making Net Neutrality the law of the land.
    7. Empower your Federal Election Commission to enforce election laws and limit money in politics.
    8. Fill all federal judicial vacancies before the end of this Congress.
    9. Fight back against the Republican war on women with NO compromises.
    10. Use federal powers to end abusive, militarized and biased policing targeting African Americans and Latinos.

    • Thanks Jim!  Signed!

I don't know how much veto power he will have, but that is a sorry way to run the country for the people. But then the Republicanus/Teabaggers don't give a rat's ass about the people . . . only corporations and the 1%.

Up here, the news is all awash with the Keystone XL and how the price has ballooned to $8 billion, double the original estimates.  Of course Harper likes that the Keystone will go ahead, Conservative nut case that he is.

I suspect that net neutrality will be done in because the big communications companies WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY with fast lanes.

Yesterday I posted a Huff Post link:

      http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/11/03/canadian-slang_n_6095232.html?utm_hp_ref=mostpopular&ir=Canada+Living

There are 116 slides etc to go with it.  Not all is about slang, despite the title . . . also covers history, political topics like marriage equality, election FINANCE, and of course food!  It has some in there about campaign finance and some of the differences between Canadian and American systems.  Although I have not looked into it, I suspect our lobbying rules are fairly different . . . perhaps only because our economy is smaller and we are seemingly "less important".

One thing that we are running into right now is Kinder Morgan, who wants to twin their transmountain pipeline to carry bitumen, suing groups of protesters who are protesting the pipeline.  Protesters are going to Burnaby Mountain (right here in Metro Vancouver) and protesting the SURVEYING of the park and areas by Kinder Morgan.  The law suit is an infringement on free speech but they are pushing it in the provincial courts.  I am afraid that the Republicanus/Teabagger win yesterday will embolden companies like Kinder Morgan to push their agendas no matter what.

  8. Upworthy:  If only more Americans had watched this episode of Colbert and taken Takei's advice!  We have too many uninformed or disinterested citizens who just don't vote.

The New Yorker:   Andy is a prophet!

Daily Kos:  Pleassssssse, don't let Palin run again.  After the debacle of this election, I would not be surprised if the idiots elected her!

Cartoon:  This explains perfectly the Voter ID laws and the gerrymandering.

  9. Puzzle — 3:40  Pretty flower.  I wonder what it smells like.

Upworthy — When I finally found the right episode (I think), I certainly agree with George Takei that "voting is a sacred trust" but the humour basically escaped me.  I think it is time that the US and Canada join Australia in making voting mandatory to help that sacred trust.  Also having voting day a national statutory day off work might also help.  But good luck in the US getting that going when Republicanus/Teabaggers would just as soon traditionally more liberal types did not vote.  They'll do nothing to promote personal participation even though it is everybody's constitutional right.

The New Yorker — I didn't know Turtles could read, much less understand the written or spoken word.

Daily Kos — A picture of Bullseye Barbie belongs on my dart board as the bullseye!  She is an insult to the intelligence of women.

Cartoon — I'd love to see the breakdown of voting as to whites, African American, Latinos, Asians, women and men.  I think that would show how fraudulent is Insp Goosestep's conspiracy theory.

    • BTW, Patty, our third match up in FF is mine to win.

I am quite happy with my success so far.  I am up against the Purple Demons this week.
