I’m writing for tomorrow, day 116.  It’ s humid sticky day, but one on which I can catch up on a little rest.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:16 (average 5:27).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: According to these two singers, Maddie and Tae, they were sitting around in their studio one day, listening to country by their favorite male artists, and they realized a few issues with how women were being treated in them. So they wrote a song about it. Take a look at the great video below.

OMG!! Bubba in a Bagger Butt Bikini!! Disappointed smile

From Daily Kos: It is open season on President Obama. He is a weak president. He is too cautious, they say. Even Hillary Clinton has jumped on the bandwagon.

As always, the Republican Reich is trying to blame Obama for what they did.

From BBC: The US says it is unlikely to launch a mission to save Iraqis fleeing Islamist fighters on Mt Sinjar as there are fewer people there than expected.

On Wednesday, the UN said tens of thousands from the Yazidi religious minority were on the run from fighters from the militant group, Islamic State, who have threatened to exterminate them.

But US Special Forces who carried out a reconnaissance mission to the mountain say the number is not as high as previously thought.

It’s nice to learn good news from the region for a change.

  1. Until I know more, I think you're being WAY too hard on Gov. Nixon.

There are rumors floating around up here in KCMO that he was waiting to see if Obama would call up the National Guard.  When that didn't develop, he called in the Highway Patrol.  And so far it's paid off.

Like I said, just scuttlebutt in the KCMO area – but I don't think he deserves a "BOO" unless you can explain why.

    • Nameless, that's Republican Supply-side Jesus booing Gov. Nixon, not our TC.

      • OOPS … sorry.

(He's my Democratic Governor who I worked to get elected – so I'm a bit defensive about him.)

        • Patty is right.  In truth, Nixon isn't really my kind of Democrat, but I recognize he's the only kind that can win in your neck of the woods, so we should sopport him.

  2. 3:50 I really have to stop smelling the flowers.

  3. Upworthy ~ Maddie and Tae are to be applauded for finally telling these County artists what they are doing to women in their music. I grew up on a dairy farm and while milking the cows we listened to Country music. The Grand Ole Opry was a staple of my musica upbringing. I loved that music. I stopped listening to it about 8 years ago when every other song was degrading to women, even the songs sung by women. I guess they must have alll turned RepublicanT or drank the InsaniTea. These 2 women nailed it! I hope it jumps to Number 1.

Daily Kos ~ Hillary "hugged it out" with him at his Birthday Bash. So all is well again. Politics made her say those horrible things. She really wants that Presidential nomination and so she was trying to distance hersef from him and his policies. How do you do that when you were his Sec'y of State and advocated those same policies? It doesn't work, Hillary. Stop trying.  As far as leaving Iraq and Afghanistan, I think Pres. Obama put that reporter in his place when he answered his stupid question. Pres. Bush negotiated our leaving there anyway.

BBC ~ The Kurds and Iraqis rescued thousands of Yazidis from the mountain on Wednesday. They evacuated them on helcipoters according to CNN.

Cartoon ~ The Reich was hoping for an all-out race war instead of the peaceful demonstrations that followed Gov. Nixon's actions yesterday.

  4. 4:30  Our next door neighbors in California had bougainvillea growing up their chiney.  That was before many of the readers here were born.

    Upworthy – Cool.

Daily Kos – Yeah, he does stay cool.  So – following the Constitution is too cautious?  Screaming, yelling, complaining, and profanity are strength?  Yeah, right.

BBC – I also read some Kurds are helping the Yazidis get out.

Cartoon – Jay Nixon, governor of Missouri, is getting flak from all sides today.  From the right for cracking down on the racist hoodlums, from the left for not doing it fast enough.  I do not believe in capital punishment but (snark alert) I might be willing to make an exception for the Ferguson PD if the method is firing squad.

  5. Did not have time to post in TC's article re. Ferguson, MO yesterday. This is current.

    Cartoon: related.
The tactics by the St Louis County police changed everything. The police are trying out their new military garb, clothes, equipments, motorized military armor vehicles and weapons given to them as excess military equipment. This is a policing failure on a huge scale. Gross incompetence was created by the local law enforcement. The state highway patrol troopers took over from the local police as ordered by the Governor, Jay Nixon. "Gov. Jay Nixon said security will be overseen by Capt. Ron Johnson of the Highway Patrol. Johnson, who is black, said he grew up in the community and "it means a lot to me personally that we break this cycle of violence." The troopers walked in front with protesters.

Yes, RACISM is still alive and well in USA.

    Rachel Maddow:

Ferguson an object lesson in bad policing
Rachel Maddow looks at the history of violent clashes with police during the Vietnam protest era and the lesson that a smaller show of force by police can ultimately be more effective in keeping a crowd peaceful.

  6. I hope you did get some rest today.

Upworthy:  I saw this video last night and liked it so much I shared it on Facebook.  It is about time women became aware of the sexism that is as prevalent today as it was fifty years ago.

Daily Kos:  I love that he called out the reporter's nonsense and repeated what all should all ready know about why we were to leave Iraq.  I wish he had been as forceful  in his first four years as he is now.

BBC:  I am glad there were fewer people on the mountain than previously thought, but those who are there still need help.

Did you see the report about Perry being indicted in Texas for vetoing a bill as retaliation against a group he is at odds with?  His defenders say they have no right to indict him because the texas constitution gives him the right to veto and give executive orders.  Wonder if Boehner knows about this and wonders if it also applies to lawsuits against our president for his executive orders?

  7. Puzzle — 3:27  Pretty flower and just my colour.  Matches a bit of the colour in my hair.

Upworthy — "OMG!! Bubba in a Bagger Butt Bikini!" I didn't understand your comment at first and thought you might be referring to the young ladies, but that didn't make sense. Then I realised who Bubba was and I started laughing even more.  Good thing Bubba wasn't wearing a thong type pair of short-shorts!  And I love it when the tables are turned like this!

Daily Kos — How many times does Obama have to answer that same question, albeit maybe phrased differently?  Obama remained cool, calm and collected despite having to answer that question for the umteenth time.  Are they trying to trip him up?  Because he is speaking the truth, a truth that is easily verifiable, he can't be tripped up.  The Republicanus/Teabaggers are trying to rewrite history in their own image again!

BBC — I listened to several videos on the BBC.  Apparently some people have made it off the mountain by themselves.  There are some elderly and disabled who need medical attention.  There was a new mother whose 7 day old baby was on Mt Sinjar and now is sick and needing medical attention.  I hope these people can be airlifted to safety and medical help.

Cartoon — I had to laugh, in a rather maniacal way, when I read a piece about the comments of the prosecutor who would likely have to decide any charges against Officer Darren Wilson.  He apparently felt that Nixon was denigrating the men and women of the Ferguson PD by asking the Capitain of the Missouri Highway Patrol to take over the investigation of the murder of Michael Brown.  I think that Wilson did the denigrating with his actions.

I heard on the radio today as I drove home from doing laundry that Rick Oops! Perry has been indicted by a Grand Jury on abuse of power charges.  I think his defense attorney said that it was all a political stunt by a Democrat District Attorney, or something like that.  Sounds a lot like Boehner's law suit against Obama . . . a political stunt.

  8. Amen to all!  Except…

Bubba Bagger in a thong?!!? πŸ™

  9. I just caught the perrt indictment, but today's articles were already written.
