Day 62.  I’m writing for tomorrow, and this is the only article, because I’m worn out.  Why?

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today's took me 3:06 (average 4:25).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: I've lived over seven decades, through a World War where we were put in camps because of our race to playing the Asian helmsman of the Enterprise, from the blossoming of the Stonewall riots to today, where we help carry the banner for marriage equality. Here is my story. I'm living proof that "It Got Better."

Don't beam him up, Scotty. Her has a lot more living to do!

From The New Yorker: In a development that offers a faint glimmer of hope for Iraq, both Sunnis and Shiites are finding common ground in the view that former Vice-President Dick Cheney seriously needs to shut up.

In the days following the publication, this week, of a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece about Iraq that Cheney wrote with his daughter Liz, hatred of the former Vice-President has, to the surprise of many, become the first thing that Sunnis and Shiites have agreed upon in centuries.

Iraqi observers in recent days have reported seeing both Sunnis and Shiites reading the Cheneys’ op-ed then tearing it to shreds in a rage.

How about a Sunni v. Shia shoe-throwing contest with ChickenHawk as the target? It sure beats killing each other!!

From Crooks and Liars: Pennsylvania, land of ethical giants! Nice corrupt little relationship the Corbett administration has with the fracking industry, don't you think?

Two retirees from the Pennsylvania Department of Health say its employees were silenced on the issue of Marcellus Shale drilling.

One veteran employee says she was instructed not to return phone calls from residents who expressed health concerns about natural gas development.

“We were absolutely not allowed to talk to them,” said Tammi Stuck, who worked as a community health nurse in Fayette County for nearly 36 years.

When the facts and Republican propaganda disagree, health officials will lose their jobs unless they shut the frack up!

  1. 3:54 Not fair. Now I want an ice cream cone.

  2. Upworthy ~ I applaud all the celebrities and common folk who made these "it gets better" videos.

New Yorker ~ I agree. How about adding W,  Rummy and a few others to the shoe-shooting gallery though?

Crooks and Liars ~ Now the people suffer. Does Corbett care? NO!

Cartoon ~ Wouldn't they love to do that?

  3. 4:37  I am SO glad that's not a real ice cream cone because that much food coloring – well, it gives a new meaning to the expression "to die for."

So sorry about the laundry.  I am almost afraid to ask how many flights you have to trek it (and that is assuming it can be done in the building), how you manage it with the walker, etc.  Tires me out just thinking about it.  After that we all need a feel-good story.

Upworthy – Thank you for the feel-good story about a wonderful guy.

New Yorker – Shoe throwing contest, right.  On Itaqi ground.  Judged by Spanish civil and military officials, who can take what's left of him straight to a Spanish jail to stand trial.  I like this a lot.

Crooks and Liars.  I'm sorry they couldn't speak out before.  They picked a good time, though.  This has to be a boon to Tom Wolf  Support Wolf if you can.

Cartoon – I have my doubts about multiple party systems – and this is why,  Very few people who don't have a billion dollars or so would be happy in a single-party system.  And multiple party systems make it even easier than it already is to divide and conquer.

    • Joanne, we have an elevator, and I use a laundry bag, as opposed to  basket, so I can transport it with my walker.  The most t6iring aspect is that the washers and driers are on opposite sides of a 20' room, so lugging the wet clothers is a chore.  then there's a;ll the folding, hanging  and putting away.

      • Well, thank heaven for the elevator.  But 20 feet?  Side to side?  Good grief, how long is the length if that's the width?  And I'm definitely with you on hanging up.  I've always hated that, and since I injured my shoulder in January it's been even worse.  At least I have my own washer and dryer in my single family home so I can do other things while waiting.

  4. I actually like washing and drying.

But I HATE folding!  Although even that is kinda fun because the cat likes to climb and snuggle in the dryer when I'm folding, where it's nice and warm – even in the summer!

    • What does not hang, I fold and roll, because I never was tyhe world's neatest folder.  Tight rolls minimize storage space too.

  5. Puzzle — 3:04  Oh it's fair!  I'm going to go have some no-sugar added black cherry ice cream that I save for special occasions!  Sunday sounds special to me.

Upworthy —  To paraphrase your comment TC "Don't beam him up, Scotty. He has a lot more teaching and mentoring to do!"

The New Yorker — ROTFLMAO Andy!  I quoted this the other day "… both Sunnis and Shiites are finding common ground in the view that former Vice-President Dick Cheney seriously needs to shut up."  Another good line: "Visiting Baghdad on Friday, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the joint Sunni-Shiite calls for Dick Cheney to shut his pie hole were a cause for optimism."  Indeed they are!  Amen to a shoe throwing contest, just no stiletto heels.

Crooks and Liars — Yeah, Governor Tom Corbett comes under the appellation of crook and liar.

"Amid the record-breaking development, public health advocates have expressed concern that Pennsylvania has not funded research to examine the potential health impacts of the shale boom.

…but doctors say they simply don’t have the data or research – from the state or other sources – to confirm that."

No funding!  No research!  No concern or care!  What else would you expect from a Republicanus/Teabagger state other than Republicare . . . a hurry up and die state policy?

Cartoon — Hitler showed that if you can't take the heat, kick everyone else out of the kitchen.  And the fascist Republicanus/Teabaggers are following in Hitler's footsteps. Proof?  Look at their attitude towards citizens!  Look at their obstruction!  Look at the way they build their team through fraud and greed!

TC, how on earth did you get my Primo to do laundry?  He looks like he's really into it!

  6. A Moment in History . . . Canadian History

Key juncture in road to Confederation happened 150 years ago this week

    http://home.mytelus.com/p/news/source/news_cp/category/national/article/28863146

"Can it be in any shape an object of ambition to sit down in the same cabinet with gentlemen to whom you have been opposed for a lifetime." Brown said in a June 22 speech to the legislature, …

"Nothing but the most stern sense of duty could have brought me into such a position."

    History Professor Barbara Messamore said:

"It's very much a pragmatic arrangement, maybe that's the Canadian way."

Makes me wonder about the current crop of Canadian politicians.  We'll never see any kind of important coming together with Harper's Conservatives in power. A few years back, there were noises from the federal NDP and Liberals but nothing came of it.  Perhaps we're not so pragmatic anymore.

I certainly don't see anything like this happening between the US Republicanus/Teabaggers and the Democrats.

Very sad because it is the people who lose!

  7. I sympathize with your hatred of laundry, but it does have to be done.  The cat in the dryer looks like my Gracie, Oreo's mom.

UPworthy:  I have always loved George Takei and am so glad he was able to find the happiness he deserved.  Too many people are still being deprived of the right to marry the one they love.

The New Yorker:  I can agree with the Sunnis and the Shiites on this. I wish Cheney would shut up and stay in Wyoming, and take Liz with him.

Crooks and Liars:  This is disgusting and outrageous!   There will probably be nothing done for those who are suffering from the effects  of fracking, either, because the energy companies along with big pharma, own our government.  We hear the same nonsense in the coal fields after coal waste water pollutes a stream and all the fish die.  They make up all sorts of "reasons" that it happened, not related to coal of course.

Cartoon:  Sad but true, and they are better at PR than the dems, so more people think  they are the honest ones.  Sad

    • I am a long tern Takei fan, myself.  I nedger had any idea he was gay, before he came out.

      It's NEVER the polluters' fault!

Lies are easier, becaise they are simple.  Truth us almost always more complex.
