I’m writing for tomorrow, and while I’m not back to 100%, I am well enough to put away my groceries from Store to Door and write articles for tomorrow.  Nevertheless, I shall be brief.  Day 59.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 3:02 (average 5:15).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Upworthy: There are plenty of folks in this country who still aren’t comfortable with marriage equality or even the fact that gay people exist. I don’t think that necessarily makes them bad human beings. However, I do think that makes them fair game for public shaming, especially when they’re being hypocrites about it. Thankfully, Anderson Cooper is on the task.

Isn’t it nice that CNN wasn’t acting like the Republican Reichsministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise, for a change. When two men kiss in a celebratory manner, it doesn’t bother me at all, but as much as I hate to admit it, when two guys start getting hot and heavy, I do feel a little queasy. However, I recognize that it’s the aftermath from years of gay-hate programmed into me from before I can remember. I did not see the light until my late 40s.  I can’t help that, but I can and do choose to respond, instead, based on what I know, that their feelings are just as authentic as any I have ever had toward a woman.

From The New Yorker: Citing the deteriorating situation in the war-torn nation, Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) on Saturday called for Congress to convene an emergency blame game on Iraq.

“This is a dire crisis,” McCain said. “It’s time to roll up our sleeves and do some serious finger-pointing.”

McCain said that he hoped Congress would act swiftly to assign blame to a long list of culprits he identified, including President Obama, the Joint Chiefs, the media, and everyone who did not vote for him in the 2008 election.

Did Andy peg McConJob, or what?

From Daily Kos:

Here’s another example to point to when opponents of a higher minimum wage claim that it would cost jobs. The minimum in San Jose, California, has gone from $8.00 an hour to $10.00 and then $10.15, and University of California-Berkeley economist Michael Reich has been studying the results:

[The minimum wage increase] directly and indirectly affected 70,000 of the city’s 370,000 workers, Reich says.

San Jose restaurants, which Reich says were most affected by the pay increase, raised menu prices by an average 1.75%, according to his study. He says there has been no discernible impact on employment.

The unemployment rate in the San Jose metro area, in fact, has fallen to 5.4% from 7.4% in March 2013. The San Jose Downtown Association says the number of restaurants in the district has increased by 20% the past 18 months.

That’s good ammo, but if the Republican is also an Ammosexual (likely), don’t bother. They have lost the capacity for thought.

  1. 4:35   It's Michael.  You don't want to mess with Michael.

Glad to have you back, and hope there are no ill effects.

Upworthy – I get uncomfortable when I see any humans (or any human and any gun) getting hot and heavy.  That to me has nothing to do with gayness.  But a kiss that would be acceptable at a Colorado prion visit isn't going to raise my hackles.  Thirty years ago when straight people complained that gay people were getting in their faces, they meant wearing a wedding ring or having a family picture on their desk.  Sorry, I feel that anything straight people can do without criticism is OK for gay people.  Now, ammosexuals, that's a different matter.)

The New Yorker – Good grief.  I see according to Andy, some of that blame is coming my way.  Can I hire a drone to send my share to Dick Cheney?  If so, it might be worth having.

Daily Kos – Thirty or forty tears ago, it seems to me, when we were just starting to tinker with our economy, there might have been some excuse for not understanding how the world works.  There are some Republican ideas that actually SOUND reasonable, and some which do make sense when applied to an individual family unit (like getting out of debt).  But I don't understand how the feeblest intelligence can fail to realize what a disaster these "reasonable" ideas have made of our country.  Unless, of course, you are rich.  But if people did grasp this, Republicans would start to get 1% of the vote, consistently, in every election.  And that ain't happenin'.

Cartoon – And please, let's NOT talk about the Bergdahls.

    • 3:21  I remember St Michael atop the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome from the Dan Brown book 'Angels and Demons'.  Being a liberal Christian and a Protestant not connected to the Anglican Communion, the saints were not on the syllabus at Sunday School.  However having read up on him in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_(archangel) , you really did not want to mess with him as JD says.  He is noted for slaying fallen angels including Satan.

      • Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent angels and saints different?

        • Angels and saints are indeed different, and Satan was an angel, as Pat implied.  But the word "Saint" also just means "holy" and was also applied to angels of all ranks as an honorific title only.  If someone calls me a lady, it doesn't mean I'm really the wife of a Lord.  They are just trying to be polite.

    • You may have a drone for going after ChickenHawk Cheney, only if it's armed. 😈

  2. NEW YORKER: To paraphrase McCant, he should find fault with himself first rather than in others. McCant really needs to retire as he really has lost his mind and cannot find it anymore. McCant really has been and is "deteriorating" right before our eyes.

Rachel Maddow: Yes, Things Are Bad, But Imagine if John McCain Was President Wars. A compilation of dates and map before 2014.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNYJAfrIX28

Rachel Maddow: John McCain Vs. John McCain – uploaded Nov 15, 2010. A compilation.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSzMObm7Bvc

CARTOON: Darrell Issa's face makes me ill every time I see "it". Issa needs to be pushed out of office. Issa has wasted so much federal taxpayer money and time in his tenure as a congresscritter.  Per CREW's (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) most corrupt has an entry on Darrell Issa:  http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/mostcorrupt/entry/darrell-issa

  3. Great cartoon  Thanks Tom  Glad you are feeling better

  4. Upworthy – I am not comfortable with overt public displays of affection,  other than a decent kiss,  hand-holding, etc. Save the heavy stuff for the privacy of your own home.

New Yorker – I accept my share of the blame because I would never vote for McConjob.

Daily Kos – It doesn't matter if there was no  change. You need a brain to understand economics.

Cartoon –  They don't want to hear the name,  Benghazi anymore.

I'm not on my computer right now so I won't even attempt the jigsaw puzzle until tomorrow morning.

  6. Puzzle — 3:21  I remember St Michael atop the Castel Sant'Angelo in Rome from the Dan Brown book 'Angels and Demons'.

Upworthy — I have to admit that I get uncomfortable when any two (or more) adults engage in hot and heavy kissing.  My stepsister called me a prude several times for voicing my opinion.  If I go to a movie and there is hot and heavy kissing, I usually turn away.  I've always done that.  Being gay has nothing to do with it.  Just call me mal adjusted.  I do think the one woman should 'get a room' because she is creating more of a stir than Sam and his partner.

The New Yorker — I get so fed up with the Republicanus/Teabaggers because they try to pin everything on Obama . . . the War in Iraq was started by Baby Bush, Chickenhawk Cheney and their merry band of sociopaths which includes McCain.  Andy is so spot on!

Daily Kos — I love it when someone can poke gaping holes in the même of the Republicanus/Teabaggers!  There was never any doubt in my mind that a living wage would contribute to a better economy.  If a Republicanus/Teabagger business goes out of business, it won't be the wages that do that, it will be inept/incompetent management.

Cartoon — I wonder if St Michael is available to do some pro bono work in the Republicanus/Teabagger caucus.

    • Michael is the archangel that contends with Satan, making him a natural enemy of Republicans.

      • Of course, that's why I was wondering if he'd do some pro bono work taking care of Republicanus/Teabaggers.

  7. I am so glad you are feeling better. We missed you.

Upworthy:  I still don't understand the uproar over this.  There was no passionate kiss, just a celebration. I personally don't want to watch any groping and fondling, no matter which sexes are involved.  That should be done in private.  We have commercials that are more than graphic these days for Pete's sake.  Homophobia is still rampant in our country, sadly.

The New Yorker:  Love Andy.  He always gets it right.  Poor McCain, he should just retire.

Daily Kos: Every time an increase in minimum wage is proposed we hear these arguments, prices will get out ofhand, it will drive small businesses out of work, we can't do it.  None of them are ever true it is just the mega wealthy determined to hang on to every cent.   Like the Wal Mart daughter who bought a 25 million dollar apartment last week, but they can't afford to pay a living wage to their employees.

Cartoon:  Love it. Issa must be near a stroke by now, also Cheny, Rumsfeld, and Rove.

  8. 3:02 I tied you, TC.
