I’m writing for tomorrow, and this is tomorrow’s only article, because I will not get back from prison until late and will have missed sleep.  Day 2.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 2:25 (average 4:36).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Daily Kos: Scary news out of Pennsylvania:

A local chapter of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan launched a neighborhood watch in the area of Ridge Road in Fairview Township in response to a recent rash of break-ins, said Frank Ancona, the organization’s imperial wizard and president.

Frank Ancona went on to offer assurances they don’t target minorities:

“It’s just like any neighborhood watch program. It’s not targeting any specific ethnicity. We would report anything we see to law enforcement,” Ancona said. “We don’t hate people. We are an organization who looks out for our race. We believe in racial separation. God created each species after its kind and saw that it was good.”

This news comes on the heels of reports that the KKK has started a new recruitment drive: [Republican KKK delinked]

He and his Republican allies have a point. The government species and the Republican species must be separated and kept apart.

From The New Yorker: Flanked by members of his state’s legislature on Wednesday afternoon, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal proudly unveiled Georgia’s new official state slogan, “We Make Florida Look Safe.”

Gov. Deal told reporters that the slogan was “more than just words,” reflecting Georgia’s determination to best its rival Florida for the nation’s most reckless gun law.

“When Florida passed Stand Your Ground, we knew we were playing catch-up,” Gov. Deal said. “Thanks to the fine men and women in the Georgia state legislature, we’re No. 1.”

Gov. Deal said he hoped that the state’s newly enacted Safe Carry Protection Act, which makes it legal to carry guns in bars, schools, churches, and some government buildings, would send the message that Georgia was taking its competition with Florida “very, very seriously.”

Andy’s satire aside, dozens of innocent victims will die, and dozens of guilty Republicans will go free because of this law.

From Raw Story: A New Hampshire lawmaker found himself being heckled by his colleagues on Wednesday during a state House speech, which asserted that women lacked the work ethic of men so they should be paid less.

During a floor debate on Wednesday, state Rep. Will Infantine (R) argued that the “Paycheck Equity Act” was not necessary to prevent wage discrimination based on gender because women deserved to make less.

“Men, by and large, make more because some of the things that they do,” he opined. “Their jobs are, by and large, riskier. They don’t mind working nights and weekends. They don’t mind working overtime or outdoors.”

At that point in the video clip uploaded by Granite State Progress, other lawmakers began to loudly object to Infantine’s remarks.

Note the way that Republican tried to blame the federal government for his standard Republican misogyny.

Morse was a Republican Senator from Oregon, who had wisdom ahead of his times.  He switched parties and became a Democrat.  His speech against offshore drilling lasted 22 hours and 26 minutes.

  1. That New Hampshire Repuglicon is called Infantine?  Seriously?  Well that makes sense – it is a typo, the last 'n' should be an 'l' – what a pathetic man.

I had hoped the Daily Kos news was a joke – I fear for any neighbourhood where they are given any kind of civil/legal standing.

Hope your prison volunteering went well TC – I'm sure it did but am equally sure (with everyone else) that you will be exhausted and need a rest – your system needs a while to recharge, after all!

  2. RAW STORY:
Rebuttal to Representative Will Infantine (R-Manchester) speech:

Why Stay-At-Home Moms Should Earn A $115,000 Salary

"Think you can’t put a price on motherhood? According to a new survey by Salary.com, a division of human resources consultant Kenexa, moms should be charging $115,000 per year for their work."

"According to the survey, the typical stay-at-home mom works almost 97 hours a week, spending 13.2 hours as a day-care teacher; 3.9 hours as household CEO; 7.6 hours as a psychologist; 14.1 hours as a chef; 15.4 as a housekeeper; 6.6 hours doing laundry; 9.5 hours as a PC-or-Mac operator; 10.7 hours as a facilities manager; 7.8 hours as a janitor and 7.8 hours driving the family car."

Representative Will Infantine (R-Manchester) should be booted out of office at the very next election by the New Hampshire women voters for his obvious misogynist attitude.

  3. :43  I hope this isn't one clear call for me.

Daily Kos – "It’s not targeting any specific ethnicity."  And if you believe that, I have a bridge for you in New Jersey.  TC, don't you mean the HUMAN species and the Republican species?

New Yorker – Andy's done it again; he;s revealed the real motivation behind all the double talk. If you can, support Jason Carter for Governor and Michelle Nunn for Senate there.

Raw Story – Work ethic, eh?  That's a new name for it.  Where I come from we always just called it stupid.  http://www.boredpanda.com/funny-men-safety-fails/

Cartoon – Yes, in 1953 Republicans were still human.  Most of them.  And I note that this was a talking filibuster, the way it is supposed to be.

  4. Daily Kos ~ They hate everyone equally.

New Yorker ~ Why don't they just pass a "kill at will" law?

Raw Story ~ I wonder if his wife, Christine, tore him a new one when he got home. If not, she should have.

Cartoon ~ An honorable man filibustering for a worthy causw. This was in the days before a filibuster was a joke.

  5. I think you are right.  The sooner we separate the Republican species from the government species the better off we will all be.

The New Yorker:  I don't plan to visit Georgia again any time soon.  I used to enjoy visiting Atlanta but I am really not interested in visiting a state where someone who disagrees with the pastor can stand up in church and shoot him.  seriously, how nutty are these people that they think this is a good idea?

Raw Story:  Sooo, the North has some idiots, too, thank you very much.  Is this guy stuck in the fifties? Yes, women try not to work nights because most of them have children to care for, and no matter how liberated we are, child care and house work are still performed mostly by women.  Men usually have a woman who can pick up the slack when they have to work late.  I would hate to be his wife.

Cartoon:  We need  someone like Morse now!

  6. N.H. Sucks, I would drive around it if possible…
