I’m working my butt off preparing to move.  Now cones the task of sorting through everything here into keep and take, give away and throw away.  I don’t know what, if anything, I’ll have for the next couple days, because I will be going to the new place to unpack and stow the things I’ve purchased online.  I can’t wait to be done!

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today’s took me 7:02 (average 7:33).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Hugs to all.

Had Lincoln and his 10% Plan survived, Andrew Johnson’s far more punitive plan, designed to allow corrupt Northerners to profit off the South, would not have been imposed.  Johnson’s vulture capitalist policies, which often employed freed blacks as a front for the carpetbaggers,  alienated Southern whites to such a degree that their racism became far more hateful and longer lasting than what might have been.

  1. Purge, PURGE PURGE!

Having lived in my previous house over a quarter of a century before building my current one, I remember what a great cathartic it was to pitch stuff in getting ready for the move.

… BUT I also learned that one should either move every 5-10 years – or at least PRETEND like you're going to move, to force you to sort and purge.  Next year is my 10 year anniversary in the "new" place, and I've been pretty good about trying not to accumulate stuff.  But I'm still going to sort and purge BIG TIME!

  2. 5:20 Tricky puzzle.

  3. Yesterday marked my 17th anniversary of living in my house. I moved here, to a house with 5 rooms total and no closets, from a house with 9 rooms,6 closets, full cellar and 2 car garage. Talk abot purging! The Salvation Army came to my old place with a big truck. I try to gt rid of things here at least every 2 weeks. If I buy something new at least 2 things get tossed. We just took a ride up north to a church run thrift shop with an SUV full to donate. Next week is my annual Christmas run to the Salvation Army. There are always people who need things we don't use anymore for whatever reason. Junk gets tossed of course.

Cartoon ~ Their racism is still in evidence, sadly.

  4. Had Lincoln not been assassinated, the assurance of "…the survival of America's representative democracy, that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." …" would have been more evident today perhaps.  We'll never know but the alienation of the South and the elevation of the carpetbaggers, aka vulture capitalists, sure did establish an unfriendly direction that certainly survives to this day.

    • Given up on the puzzles, Lynn?

      • No Jerry.  I've cut down my computer time significantly while I deal with an urgent personal matter.  Believe me, I'd rather be doing the puzzle than dealing with the personal crap but that is not to be right now.  I will be back although I suspect I'll be back at the bottom of the pile.

  5. 10:28  With an average like that, I knew it would be a real – you know, what Michele Bachman is (and how special is it that one nickname for Michele is "Shelly"?)

Cartoon – We'll never know about Reconstruction, will we?  It might be fun for a historical fiction writer to play with.  I was wondering this morning what a medium would look like that was slanted as far left as the mainstream media are to the right.  A job for a satirist but maybe impossible.

  6. "I can’t wait to be done!" Take it easy TC…

    8:01 – Better late than never… "

  7. Our whole downstairs was flooded in 2004.  We moved here in 2005, practically on top of a mountain, with no streams nearby.  The flood got rid of so much junk that moving wasn't so hard.  We have less storage space here so I thought I would keep it streamlined. NOT.  Like Patty and Nameless, I try to purge two or three times a year.

If Lincoln had lived and his plan had been implemented there might not be so much distrust between the south and the north.  I know racism still exists in the south, but too many turn a blind eye to the racism that also exists in the north.  Racism is not geographical.
