Let me begin by congratulating the LGBT community on the demise of DOMA and Prop 8. Well done, and on to ENDA! I’m writing early for day 13, but in spite of two good decisions, I still have a severe pain in the SCROTUS over voting rights, as today’s cartoon demonstrates.

From The New Yorker: By a five-to-four vote, the Supreme Court today acted, in the words of Justice Antonin Scalia, “to relieve millions of Americans from the onerous burden of having to vote.”
Writing for the majority, Justice Scalia stated, “Since 1965, citizens across the nation have lived under the tyranny of being forced to elect people to represent them. This is an important step to free them from that unfair and heinous obligation.”
Although he didn't actually say it, the quote in the second paragraph is accurate.
From NY Times: Representative Edward J. Markey, a Democrat who has toiled for almost 40 years in the House in both the majority and minority, won a promotion to the Senate on Tuesday in a victory over Gabriel Gomez, a Republican who has never served in elective office.
Mr. Markey, 66, succeeds John Kerry, who stepped down this year to become secretary of state, and he will provide a reliable vote for President Obama’s agenda, which seemed to be just what voters wanted.

When it comes to environmental policy, Obama has a long way to go, before I will be satisfied. But he's great compared to Republicans who want to undo the protections that we do have. I'm all for a 17% reduction in CO2. And I'm damn glad to see him doing an end run on the Republican War on the Earth.

I forgot to mention that the g o p puke candidate was a former soldier. As a soldier, they do as commanded and take orders. If the soldier g o p puke had won, he most likely would have taken

I wouldn't limit congratulations to just the LGBT community WRT DOMA & Prop 8 – this was a victory for all Americans who cherish equality.
And while the Court’s rulings may not have been Appomattox, it certainly was Gettysburg. The tide has turned, and it’s only a matter of time.
But what I want to know is how did Pres. Obama get the phone number of the Plaintiffs in the Prop 8 case to call and congratulate them.

The New Yorker — As I set my little head on the pillow last night, I was thinking about the SCOTUS decision on the VRA. And I thought back to my vote on the poll where I said the Republican/Teabagger shenanigans on 'voting' would be the thing to alienate voters the most. Well I don't know if I am right, but the conservative activist decision yesterday from SCOTUS is sure making me feel right. You have to love AB.

MSNBC — There was more certitude in the words and how he spoke them than before. Admittedly he doesn't have to worry about a second term, but he could certainly help set up the next Democratic president with a well executed plan. And I heard on the radio that Al Gore had good things to say.

The Scrotes on SCOTUS were deliberately acting in a partisan manner with its voting act decision having 2014 in mind – I wish there were some way to impeach some of these racists on the court! They're already putting plans in action to make voting impossible for any but the top R's!
I can only hope thaat the decision of British Columbia and the suggestion by Gore to veto XL will be enough to move Obama to action – I really can't abide the idea of either fracking or Tarsands being a "segue" to energy independence – it'll be the last straw on global warming, regardless of small steps taken otherwise!

I voted for Obama twice. I have been very disappointed in his actions regarding the environment and am not totally satisfied with his statements about the XL pipeline, but at least it is a beginning.
