RepublicansOnParade2

Here is the seventh article in our Republicans on Parade series, featuring individuals who personify what the Republican Party has become. Today’s honoree is Texas State Representative Jodie Laubenberg, for telling such a fantastic lie in the Republican war on women that it may stun you.

25LaubenbergWhile you slept last night, the Texas House of Representatives had an epic battle over draconian anti-abortion legislation being advanced during a special session called by Governor Rick Perry. The bill has been introduced by Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, the official Texas ALEC Chair.

The only weapon Democrats have to fight this incredibly invasive legislation is time. They’ve mounted a filibuster of sorts (which is still going on in real time as I write) by offering over 20 amendments to the original bill. Republicans have responded for the most part by simply refusing to debate and tabling each amendment.

However, early in the amendment process, Rep. Laubenberg was debating the bill, and part of her argument concerned other, more indirect ways to get abortions. Specifically, Rep. Laubenberg claimed that "in the emergency room, they have what’s called rape kits, where a woman can get cleaned out."

Please pick your jaw off the floor. I heard that in real time on the live feed and couldn’t believe my ears. This woman actually believes that rape kits are some kind of unofficial Plan B? Clearly that abstinence-only sex education program in Texas didn’t cover rape, incest, or legislative idiocy… [emphasis original]

Inserted from <Crooks and Liars>

I have other proof that Laubenberg is a Republican.  She has missed 85% of quorum calls and 60% of meetings of her House Public Health Committee.  She is clearly aligning herself with the work ethic of US House Republicans, to prepare herself for a career there. But her extreme misogyny proves her party even without that. She is so Republican, in fact, that she MUST be helped to experience unemployment.

Sadly, the measures passed.

  1. Laubenberg's stupidity is so offensive!  I think Ms Laubenberg needs a little field trip to the local emergency room to see what a real 'rape kit' looks like before she continues in her public health role and opens her mouth again.  What a ditz!

As to the 'family portrait' at the beginning, send in the clowns! . . . oh, I guess they have arrived!

Did she actually lie or is she just really that incredibly dumb?

    • Angie, I think we risk grave error when we assume that Republican politicians doing or saying stupid things means they are stupid.   She and her husband are the proprietors of CompuHelp, a successful IT company.  In this, and most cases, their trupid acts and deed means they believe most of their constiuents are stupid.  In red states, they are often right.

      • Hi Tom. You make an excellent point. On the one hand, I understand that they are being venal as hell in putting forth an agenda that they don't believe in.  I know the only thing they believe in is personal profit and power.  But on the other hand, they sound so ignorant that if, collectively, they had half a brain, they'd realize it and be ashamed of their stated ignorance.

        • So it would seem, but they rade that stated ignrance to victory in 2010 and are sticking with their only possibility for success.  Consider the puomic reaction, if they started telling the truth about their intent.

  5. Lovely family portrait of some RepulicanTs.

  6. Say Ms. Laubenberg, do you write this stuff yourself?  What time are your shows, and are you going to be here all week?

    Oh … you WEREN'T joking?!?

Well,  it's one thing to be Anti-Science, but quite another to be Pro-Stupid.

Then again, it's repeatedly been documented that Repubicans think the answer to Outreach is just to say Stupid Things louder and more obnoxiously.

  7. Are you sure that Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, R-Parker, is a college educated woman…?
Sounds more Rep. Jodie Laubenberg, fluffed her way through school without learning how to read nor speak.
This is the author of the bill Teaxaas is trying to pass by sneaky means of a "special session"… lol…
