Yesterday was a perfect balance between researching, blogging and napping.  I’m current with replies.  Tomorrow appears routine.

From MoveOn: INSPIRING: Former GOP Lawmaker Admits To A Huge Mistake

I have to admire the integrity of this Republican, although I’m sure that her party does not share my respect for her.

From NY TimesJPMorgan Chase, the nation’s biggest bank, ignored internal controls and manipulated documents as it racked up trading losses last year, while its influential chief executive, Jamie Dimon, briefly withheld some information from regulators, a new Senate report says.

The findings by the Congressional investigators shed new light on the multibillion-dollar trading blunder, which has claimed the jobs of several top executives and prompted an inquiry by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The 300-page report, released a day before a Senate subcommittee plans to question bank executives and regulators at a hearing, will escalate the debate over how to police complex risk-taking on Wall Street. It may also foreshadow a criminal case against employees at the heart of the troubled wager.

If this does not trigger criminal charges, it will signal the need to replace the top people at DOJ.

From Washington Post: Schultz-hosted “The Ed Show” will be moved from its 8 p.m. weekday berth to weekend evenings, starting next month…

…Hayes, who has hosted weekend morning show “Up w/Chris Hayes,” is moving to the 8 pm. weekday slot, leading in to “The Rachel Maddow Show,” starting April 1. (Hayes has regularly served as guest host for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.”)

I definitely like Chris Hayes, and Ed will become a good video source on the weekends. This might not be so bad.

  1. If JP Morgan Chase is regarded as too big to fail and too big to prosecute – they are going to run roughshod over every person in the world (power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely).  God bless Elizabeth Warren and all like her!

  2. 4:12  Yellow is a cheerful colour!  Patty?  Jerry?  Are either of you going to paint over the cheerfulness?

  3. Puzzle — 4:12 Yellow is a cheerful colour!

MoveOn — Obviously a very emotional time for this former legislator.  It sounds like she got into politics for the right reasons; found out it was a snake pit of partisanship, especially on the Republican/Teabagger side; and left after one term.  I wonder if she left because she was being told to vote party line no matter what her personal values told her, or if she was defeated at the polls?

NY Times — Oh, the shit should fly on this, far and wide!

JPMorgan Chase, the nation’s biggest bank, ignored internal controls and manipulated documents as it racked up trading losses last year, while its influential chief executive, Jamie Dimon, briefly withheld some information from regulators, a new Senate report says. …

As the traders in London assembled increasingly complex bets, JPMorgan ignored its own risk alarms, according to investigators. In the first four months of 2012 alone, the report found, the chief investment office [headed by Ina Drew] breached five of its critical risk controls more than 330 times.

Jamie Dimon is documented to have known more than he has admitted to the authorities.  As CEO, it is his job to take responsibility for matters this large.  It is inconceivable to me that he did not know what was going on as he would have had daily contact with people like Ina Drew, especially after the 2008 financial crisis and resultant fallout.

And THIS is who legislators listen to when establishing laws???  Thank goodness that Elizabeth Warren is there.  If the Senate banking committee were wise, they would unleash Elizabeth Warren on JP Morgan executives and banksters in general.  It is time to return to Glass-Stegall, and it is time to prosecute bank executives and other "small fish" complicit in large scale boondoogles like JP Morgan Chase's.  Too big to fail and too big to prosecute is not an option.

And TC, I agree with you.  If the DOJ does not move on this, "off with their heads"!

Washington Post — I heard Ed announce this on his show along with his "10 lb walleye fish story".  To me, this sounds like semi-retirement so that he can spend more time with his wife and soon to be 11 grandchildren.  Life's priorities!  But at least we can still get our "Ed fix" on the weekends.  I too like Chris Hayes and respect his journalism.

Cartoon — This comment will follow Lyin' Ryan for the rest of his political career, indeed for the rest of his life!  Unfortunately, the Republican/Teabaggers won't realise that magnitude of Ryan's faux pas until it is too late.  And HE is one of their bright stars?!?  I think this star will go super nova, just don't know when.

  4. Hi guys!

If Stephen Harper has his way, British Columbia will be a much healthier environment for oil industry bottom lines than it will be for our communities and our wildlife. The lifeblood of our coast–from wild salmon to spirit bears to Douglas firs–is on the line.

And let's face it, time and again British Columbia's Premier, Cristy Clark, has shown that she is more concerned with money and political gain than protecting the majesty of Canada's West Coast. Luckily the provincial election is right around the corner.

Canadians do not want over a thousand kilometres of hazardous pipeline cutting through our wild salmon rivers and ancient forests. The people of British Columbia definitely do not want tar sands tankers the length of up to 30 school buses end-to-end barreling through their coastal communities along the Great Bear Rainforest and its sensitive ecosystems.

Harper's government has commandeered Canada's hard-won environmental laws and gutted them to satisfy the needs of the most powerful oil and gas lobby groups in the country. With the upcoming election, BC has a new opportunity to protect Canada's beautiful West Coast from irreparable oil spills and broken promises.

I hope you'll join British Columbians like me in saying "No"!  Please action the link below.  Thanks and Namasté

  5. MoveOn ~ Good for her. But, her regrets don't change the law now. I wonder how many lives she and others like her (Portman) have helped destroy.

NY Times ~ Jamie Dimon and all the others should be sent directly to jail. Do not pass go or collect $200! DOJ better do something about this.

Washington Post ~ I hope Ed does well in his new time slot on the weekends.

Cartoon ~ This should be the quote of the year!

  6. Vote in favor of DOMA, Sad indeed… 🙂
