Santorum in Dutch

Rick Santorum had done a superior job of spreading his froth around in the United States, but now he has decided to demonstrate his foreign policy expertise by frothing an entire country, and an ally, no less.  He made up the lies he told, and the Netherlands, despite considerable restraint, is clearly not happy.

A member of the Dutch Parliament expressed outrage on Thursday that the country’s government has so far declined to directly contradict the Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s false claim that forced euthanasia is legal and common in the Netherlands.

25map-netherlandsAs The Lede reported this week, the Dutch Embassy in Washington refused to comment, but did provide The Times with information proving that Mr. Santorum was wrong to say that forced euthanasia accounts for 5 percent of all deaths in the Netherlands, and elderly people are killed in Dutch hospitals to save money. A spokeswoman for the embassy explained that the Dutch government wanted to stay out of the American presidential election.

That reticence, however, enraged Frans Timmermans, a leading member of the opposition Labor Party in The Hague, who said in a note posted on Facebook that he wanted the nation’s foreign minister to formally rebuke Mr. Santorum. As Radio Netherlands reports, Mr. Timmermans wrote: “the ambassador gave ‘no comment’ on Santorum’s scandalous accusations aimed at our country. How is that possible?”

He then called on Uri Rosenthal, the foreign minister, to make a public statement, before concluding, “This cannot be allowed to rest.”…

It’s bad enough that a candidate for President has lied so blatantly about an ally, but if he did it as President, it would create an international incident.  Rachel Maddow has more on this with Eric Mouthaan.

The lying SOB made this up to bring back the death panels meme that has been thoroughly disproven, except on Faux Noise. I have to disagree with Eric Mouthaan on one point. Santorum is NOT a serious candidate. Nevertheless he my froth his way into the nomination.

  1. I hope the Dutch rake him over the coals for those statements.  And how the hell did he escape the US?  I’m pretty sure they didn’t  invite him.

  2. I’m almost speechless.  Sanctimonious Santorum has sunk to new lows which I didn’t think was possible.  He wants to skewer health reform in the US so he attacks the Dutch system with the foulest lies.  The way he puts things, I think he is trying to line it up with abortion and contraception.  And of course Faux Noise would be all over this since they are the propaganda wing of the Republican/Teabaggers and Santorum is one of their talking heads.

While I can appreciate the Dutch government wanting to stay out of US politics, I do think that something needs to be said and Santorum hauled onto the carpet.  I find myself offended by Santorum’s total irresponsibility and lying.  The only thing I think he successfully skewered is his political career.

Oh, and Ricky, you’re supposed to wear those Dutch wooden shoes (also called sabots) on your feet, not up the side of your head!

Somebody get a rubber room ready for this idiot.

    • I don’t really think it has anything to do with health reform, and has everything to do with Santorum’s sancitimonius pontificating crap-spewing mouth.  He thinks he’s on a crusade or something to legislate morality for the U.S. and now apparently he wishes to spread his spew internationally also.  I believe he truly sees himself as some kind of appointed God-representative, put on this earth to teach us all the “ways” that are proper.  He attacks every concept of everything that doesn’t fall within his narrow-minded bigoted purview.  This verbal assault on the Dutch smacks very much of the same argument he makes with wanting to deny amniocentesis to women; he’s hell-bent on trying to portray citizens, doctors, governments and the like of purposely wanting to murder people.  This radical religious doctrine is a common thread through nearly everything he talks about, whether it’s this, the ACA, abortion, contraception, marital sex, same-sex marriage, even hetero marriage.  I sincerely hope the Dutch government does make a strong statement against him and I hope that we, the U.S., throw him out on his sorry arse.  He’s a disgrace and a national embarrassment.

      • Welcome Jo! 🙂

I think Lynn is correct, because the context of the remarks were comparing Obamacare to the Dutch system.  However, everything else you said is spot on!

  3. Sanctimonious has serious problems  with all the issues. do you want to send him a tinfoil hat? Click on  this link:

And despite all the paranoid, hillbilly nonsense that issues from his pie-hole, I still so want him to be the conservative standard bearer.  :- )

  5. This Frothy is an embarrassment–  this one makes me choke– lying bastard— The Netherlands is owed an apology— before an international incident is provoked!!

  6. Why isn’t this a HEADLINE on some paper or on the Internet…in BIG, BOLD, LETTERS??!!  He definitely needs to be called out on this!

  7. Rapture Rick is practicing the tried and true winger trick of constantly throwing things out to see which of them stick. It was today (I believe) that he resurrected the “snuff Grandma” Obamascare story.

  8. To P Webb.
