{"id":9080,"date":"2012-10-09T08:24:22","date_gmt":"2012-10-09T15:24:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=9080"},"modified":"2012-10-09T08:24:22","modified_gmt":"2012-10-09T15:24:22","slug":"acute-foreign-policy-disorder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/10\/09\/acute-foreign-policy-disorder\/","title":{"rendered":"Acute Foreign Policy Disorder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Whenever Willard Romney has delved into foreign policy, the result has been a disaster.&#160; He insulted Great Britain, and actually called Russia our number one enemy, for starters.&#160; In his attempt to reinvent himself before election day, he gave what he called a major foreign policy speech yesterday at VMI.&#160; Were I a doctor, the diagnosis from Dr. TomCat would be Acute Foreign Policy Disorder.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"Romney2Face\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Romney2Face\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Romney2Face.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"310\" \/>Mitt Romney mounted a big foreign policy display on a flag-draped stage at the Virginia Military Institute on Monday, serving up a lot of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/video\/2012\/10\/08\/multimedia\/100000001832704\/mitt-romneys-speech-on-foreign-policy.html?ref=politics#100000001832704\" target=\"_blank\">tough-sounding sound bites<\/a> and hawkish bumper stickers, some of them even bumping up somewhere close to the truth, to give the appearance that he would be stronger and more forceful on international affairs than President Obama.<\/p>\n<p>He seems to consider himself, ludicrously, a leader similar to the likes of Harry Truman and George Marshall, and, at one point, <strong>he obliquely questioned Mr. Obama\u2019s patriotism<\/strong>. The hope seems to be that big propaganda, said loudly and often, will drown out Mr. Obama\u2019s respectable record in world affairs, make Americans believe Mr. Romney would be the better leader and cover up the fact that <strong>there is mostly just hot air behind his pronouncements<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Romney\u2019s stated policies <a href=\"http:\/\/thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/08\/romney-says-white-house-botched-response-to-benghazi-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Monday\u2019s speech<\/a>, just as they have been in the past, are either pretty much like Mr. Obama\u2019s or, <strong>when there are hints of differences, would pull the United States in wrong and even dangerous directions<\/strong>. <strong>His analysis of the roots of various international crises is either na\u00efve or deliberately misleading<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>One new element is Mr. Romney\u2019s assertion that the threats have \u201cgrown worse.\u201d He desperately wants to undercut the edge that voters have given Mr. Obama on foreign policy, even before he ordered the killing of Osama bin Laden. But he offers no real evidence to back up that particular claim, and <strong>if it were true that the threats have been so much worse for so long, it\u2019s odd that Mr. Romney hasn\u2019t really talked about them before<\/strong>\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/10\/09\/opinion\/searching-for-romneys-foreign-policy.html\" target=\"_blank\">NY Times<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Ed Schultz and Col. He lied about Obama&#8217;s record. Do you want John Bolton and Robert Joseph (author of Bush&#8217;s WMD lies) making foreign policy decisions? Wilkerson is no bleeding heart liberal. He is a Republican. He is correct that we do not need Romney&#8217;s massive military spending increases, and he is correct about Romney&#8217;s foreign policy advisors. I don&#8217;t understand the purpose of his lie about no discussion of terrorism in 2008. He must be lying just for practice.
