{"id":9029,"date":"2012-10-05T10:26:00","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T17:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=9029"},"modified":"2012-10-05T10:26:00","modified_gmt":"2012-10-05T17:26:00","slug":"89-million-on-republicare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/10\/05\/89-million-on-republicare\/","title":{"rendered":"89 Million on RepubliCare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">There seems to be a lot of confusion, about the implications of health care coverage between Obamacare and RepubliCare, as envisioned by Lord Willard Romney.&#160; The Lord of Lies added to the confusion in his debate performance.&#160; Fortunately we have some excellent people, who can sort it out, as Paul Krugman has done in this editorial.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; float: left\" title=\"RepubliCare\" alt=\"RepubliCare\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/RepubliCare1.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"405\" \/>\u201cNo. 1,\u201d declared Mitt Romney in Wednesday\u2019s debate, \u201cpre-existing conditions are covered under my plan.\u201d <strong>No, they aren\u2019t<\/strong> \u2014 as Mr. Romney\u2019s own advisers have conceded in the past, and did again after the debate&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;What Mr. Romney actually proposes is that Americans with pre-existing conditions who already have health coverage be allowed to keep that coverage even if they lose their job \u2014 as long as they keep paying the premiums. As it happens, this is <strong>already the law of the land<\/strong>. But it\u2019s not what anyone in real life means by having a health plan that covers pre-existing conditions, because it applies only to those who manage to land a job with health insurance in the first place (and are able to maintain their payments despite losing that job). Did I mention that the number of jobs that come with health insurance has been steadily declining over the past decade? <\/p>\n<p>What Mr. Romney did in the debate, in other words, was, at best, to play a word game with voters, <strong>pretending to offer something substantive for the uninsured while actually offering nothing<\/strong>. For all practical purposes, <strong>he simply lied<\/strong> about what his policy proposals would do. <\/p>\n<p><strong>How many Americans would be left out in the cold under Mr. Romney\u2019s plan? One answer is 89 million<\/strong>. According to the nonpartisan Commonwealth Foundation, that\u2019s the number of Americans who lack the \u201ccontinuous coverage\u201d that would make them eligible for health insurance under Mr. Romney\u2019s empty promises.
