{"id":8721,"date":"2012-08-31T09:48:55","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T16:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=8721"},"modified":"2012-08-31T09:48:55","modified_gmt":"2012-08-31T16:48:55","slug":"the-mannequin-lied","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/31\/the-mannequin-lied\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mannequin Lied"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">For the last few days, we have been privileged to view the most dishonest party convention in my memory, as a parade of Republican politicians and pundits compete to be the biggest liar of all.&#160; The mannequin candidate, Willard Romney, may not have won the contest, but he came close.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"31Speech\" border=\"0\" alt=\"31Speech\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/31Speech.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"360\" \/>Mitt Romney wrapped the most important speech of his life, for Thursday night\u2019s session of his convention, around <strong>an extraordinary reinvention of history \u2014 that his party rallied behind President Obama when he won in 2008, hoping that he would succeed<\/strong>. \u201cThat president was not the choice of our party,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are a good and generous people who are united by so much more than divides us.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The truth, rarely heard this week in Tampa, Fla., is that the <strong>Republicans charted a course of denial and obstruction from the day Mr. Obama was inaugurated, determined to deny him a second term by denying him any achievement, no matter the cost to the economy or American security \u2014 even if it meant holding the nation\u2019s credit rating hostage to a narrow partisan agenda<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/08\/31\/us\/politics\/romney-vows-to-deliver-country-from-economic-travails.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mr. Romney\u2019s big speech<\/a>, delivered in a treacly tone with a strange misty smile on his face suggesting he was always about to burst into tears, was of a piece with the rest of the convention.
