{"id":8718,"date":"2012-08-31T09:48:20","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T16:48:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=8718"},"modified":"2012-08-31T09:48:20","modified_gmt":"2012-08-31T16:48:20","slug":"court-rejects-texas-republicans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/31\/court-rejects-texas-republicans\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Rejects Texas Republicans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Ever so gradually, the federal courts and the DOJ are examining the Republican Party\u2019s attempt to deprive qualified Democratic voters of their right to vote, under the guise of voter fraud.&#160; As they complete their examinations, they are concluding that Republican voter ID laws are, in fact, discriminatory.&#160; The latest case is Texas.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"31VoterID\" border=\"0\" alt=\"31VoterID\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/31VoterID.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" \/>A Texas law requiring voters to show picture ID at the polls was struck down by a three-judge federal panel, who said the state failed to prove the legislation wouldn\u2019t harm low-income and minority voters.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s unanimous ruling was the second legal defeat in three days for one of America\u2019s most conservative states, which on Tuesday had a different Washington panel reject its new congressional and state Legislature district maps on the grounds that they discriminated against blacks and Hispanics.<\/p>\n<p>But while it has lost those battles, Texas vows it may yet win the war \u2014 in the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-dominated state Legislature passed a voter ID law in 2011, a measure that had long been backed by conservatives statewide.
