{"id":8685,"date":"2012-08-26T10:18:56","date_gmt":"2012-08-26T17:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=8685"},"modified":"2012-08-26T11:22:23","modified_gmt":"2012-08-26T18:22:23","slug":"gop-haters-blast-obama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/08\/26\/gop-haters-blast-obama\/","title":{"rendered":"GOP Haters Blast Obama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The first amendment guarantees the freedom of religion, but forbids the establishment of any stare religion.&nbsp; The only way for government to reasonably do this is to avoid preferential treatment for one religion over another.&nbsp; Therefore is is perfectly appropriate for the President to participate in the festivals and holidays of several religions, bit not just one.&nbsp;&nbsp; However, Republican Supply-side pseudo-Christians seem to think freedom of religion means freedom for only THEIR religion.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"left\" alt=\"26iftar\" border=\"0\" height=\"239\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/26iftar.jpg\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"26iftar\" width=\"360\" \/>When the Family Research Council wasn&rsquo;t <a href=\"http:\/\/livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com\/entry\/family-research-council-pac-enthusiastically-backs-todd-akin\" target=\"_blank\">rallying<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/08\/23\/us\/politics\/a-senate-victory-for-todd-akin-seen-as-possible-in-missouri.html\" target=\"_blank\">support<\/a> this week for Todd Akin or pushing to keep the ban on abortions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2012\/08\/22\/159710450\/gop-platform-committee-adopts-abortion-position\" target=\"_blank\">in the case of rape or incest<\/a> in the GOP platform, it found time to denigrate an entire religion. FRC sends out weekly <font color=\"#000000\">Prayer Team alerts [pseudo-Christians delinked]<\/font>, asking &ldquo;for your prayers relating to various public policy issues.&rdquo;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">This week&rsquo;s <font color=\"#0066cc\">alert<\/font> [pseudo-Christians delinked] called Islam &ndash; the religion of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewforum.org\/The-Future-of-the-Global-Muslim-Population.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">2.6 million Americans<\/a> and 1.6 billion people around the world &ndash; a &ldquo;fanatical religion.&rdquo; The <font color=\"#000000\">alert<\/font> [pseudo-Christians delinked] also attacked a recent White House <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/blog\/2012\/08\/11\/president-obama-hosts-fourth-annual-iftar-dinner-white-house\" target=\"_blank\">event<\/a> with the American Muslim community &ndash; an Iftar dinner to mark the end of the Ramadan fast.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">At the dinner, President Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2012\/08\/10\/remarks-president-iftar-dinner\" target=\"_blank\">highlighted<\/a> the role of Muslim-Americans in government and showcased Thomas Jefferson&rsquo;s Koran. Here&rsquo;s FRC&rsquo;s <font color=\"#0066cc\">i<\/font><font color=\"#000000\">nterpretation [pseudo-Christians delinked]<\/font>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">In his remarks, the President suggested that Thomas Jefferson may have hosted the first White House Iftar Dinner and he showcased the Koran from Jefferson&#39;s library (Fact: Thomas Jefferson long advocated using military force to deal with hostile Muslims in the Mediterranean and ordered the Marines to Tripoli among his first acts as President and had a Koran primarily to study the fanatical religion of his adversaries).<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">FRC <font color=\"#000000\">characterized<\/font> [pseudo-Christians delinked] Obama&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2012\/08\/10\/remarks-president-iftar-dinner\" target=\"_blank\">remarks<\/a> at the event as &ldquo;amazing,&rdquo; and not in a good way. What was so amazing, you ask? For one thing, Obama &ldquo;praised Muslims in positions throughout his administration,&rdquo; including Huma Abedin.
