Both claims are lies.&#160; In fact Obama and the Democrats have cut taxes for the 99% more than Bush ever did.&#160; The truth here is that Obama and the Democrats want to cut your taxes and raise taxes only on millionaires and billionaires.&#160; Conversely Republicans want to raise your taxes and cut them for millionaires and billionaires.&#160; The dirt is in the details.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"29ryanraisestaxes\" border=\"0\" alt=\"29ryanraisestaxes\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/29ryanraisestaxes.jpg\" width=\"452\" height=\"294\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">House Republicans next week intend to vote on a plan that would both extend all of the Bush tax cuts \u2014 including those on income in excess of $250,000 \u2014 and fast-track \u201ctax reform.\u201d If the House GOP bill were adopted, tax reform legislation would \u201c<font color=\"#000000\">have special protections in the U.S. Senate<\/font> [Murdoch delinked], limiting the opportunities for lawmakers to use blocking tactics.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">But the GOP bill only calls for a certain kind of tax reform \u2014 specifically that which would benefit the rich and corporations. Under the GOP\u2019s fast-track approach, a tax reform bill <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-112hr6169ih\/pdf\/BILLS-112hr6169ih.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">would have to consist of<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">(1) a consolidation of the current 6 individual income tax brackets into not more than <span><strong>two brackets of 10 and not more than 25 percent<\/strong><\/span>;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">(2) <span><strong>a reduction in the corporate tax rate<\/strong><\/span> to not greater than 25 percent;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">(3) a repeal of the Alternative Minimum Tax;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">(4) a broadening of the tax base to maintain revenue between 18 and 19 percent of the economy; and<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">(5) <span><strong>a change from a \u2018\u2018worldwide\u2019\u2019 to a \u2018\u2018territorial\u2019\u2019 system of taxation<\/strong><\/span>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">As Citizens for Tax Justice noted, these changes would massively <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctj.org\/taxjusticedigest\/archive\/2012\/07\/top_gop_tax-writer_proposes_fa.php\" target=\"_blank\">benefit the wealthy and corporations<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>, shifting the tax burden down the income scale.
