{"id":8126,"date":"2012-06-22T11:03:25","date_gmt":"2012-06-22T18:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=8126"},"modified":"2012-06-22T11:03:25","modified_gmt":"2012-06-22T18:03:25","slug":"more-fast-and-furious-proof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/06\/22\/more-fast-and-furious-proof\/","title":{"rendered":"More Fast and Furious Proof"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Yesterday many progressives, myself included, noted that Darrell Issa\u2019s witch hunt against Eric Holder and the Obama Administration stems from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/2012\/06\/21\/fast-and-frivolous\/\" target=\"_blank\">absurd conspiracy theory that Obama did this to take away their guns<\/a>.&#160; Needless to say, there was a scramble on the right to deny that Issa and other Republican leaders buy into this.&#160; However, they have touted the conspiracy theory on the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, Faux Noise.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"FoxSheep\" border=\"0\" alt=\"FoxSheep\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/FoxSheep.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"261\" \/>Rep. Darrell Issa, Republican chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, spoke at the NRA\u2019s mid-April national convention in St. Louis and appeared on NRA News\u2019 Cam &amp; Company to discuss <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ATF_gunwalking_scandal\" target=\"_blank\">Fast and Furious<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>. News coverage of the convention focused on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightwingwatch.org\/content\/ted-nugent-stumps-mitt-romney-nra-convention-chop-their-heads-november-video\" target=\"_blank\">extreme rhetoric<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> of NRA board member Ted Nugent,&#160; but <strong>Issa made some rather explosive comments of his own<\/strong>. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Fast and Furious was launched under the Bush administration, and continued by the Obama administration, to investigate and undermine the smuggling of guns from the US to Mexico by drug cartels. However, the government lost track of many of the guns sold through the program, and some were connected to the murders of Mexican citizens and a US federal agent. Issa thinks he knows why.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">&#160;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Issa, speaking to the NRA faithful, advanced the baseless and reckless conspiracy theory that the Obama administration intentionally lost track of guns sold through the program in order to boost gun violence and clear the way for an assault weapons ban. Issa posed this as a rhetorical question and then answered it:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">They&#8217;ve never answered the question, &quot;What were they thinking of?&quot; Could it be that what they really were thinking of was in fact to use this walking of guns in order to promote an assault weapons ban. Many think so.
