{"id":8078,"date":"2012-06-18T11:48:52","date_gmt":"2012-06-18T18:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=8078"},"modified":"2012-06-18T11:48:52","modified_gmt":"2012-06-18T18:48:52","slug":"does-romneys-math-stink","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/06\/18\/does-romneys-math-stink\/","title":{"rendered":"Does Romney&#8217;s Math Stink?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">The more Willard Romney reveals about his plans to extend the economic policies of GW Bush, the more unlikely his predictions appear.&#160; Why?&#160; It\u2019s simple. 1 + 1 &lt;&gt; 3.&#160; Romney\u2019s math appears so bad, that he has experts scratching their heads in consternation.&#160; Does Romney\u2019s math stink?&#160; I think it\u2019s something else.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"18RomneyMath\" border=\"0\" alt=\"18RomneyMath\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/18RomneyMath.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"225\" \/>Mitt Romney\u2019s pledge to massively increase military spending \u2014 close to a <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/security\/2012\/05\/10\/481764\/romney-military-spending-2-trillion\/\" target=\"_blank\">$2 trillion increase<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> over the next ten years and boosting the Pentagon\u2019s base budget to 4 percent of GDP \u2014 combined with his promises to cuts taxes and reduce the national debt is leaving many national security and defense experts scratching their heads, particularly because the presumptive GOP presidential nominee <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/security\/2012\/05\/10\/481764\/romney-military-spending-2-trillion\/\" target=\"_blank\">has not said<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> how he\u2019d pay for it. <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">A poll of defense budget experts conducted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/article\/20120617\/DEFREG02\/306170003\" target=\"_blank\">Defense News<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font> finds that Romney\u2019s pledge to grow the defense budget \u201cappears politically impossible, if technically doable.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Todd Harrison, a senior fellow for defense budget studies at the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments said about Romney\u2019s plan:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><span><strong><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">If you put all of the promises together, it doesn\u2019t all add up.<\/font><\/strong><\/span><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"> The administration may change, but the math remains the same.
