{"id":765,"date":"2010-03-05T01:06:09","date_gmt":"2010-03-05T09:06:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=765"},"modified":"2010-03-05T01:06:09","modified_gmt":"2010-03-05T09:06:09","slug":"gop-fear-is-all-they-have","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2010\/03\/05\/gop-fear-is-all-they-have\/","title":{"rendered":"GOP: Fear Is All They Have"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Politico broke a story yesterday about a fundraising document prepared by the Chairman of the RNC Finance Chairman.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/GOP2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right-width: 0px; margin: 0px 0px 0px 10px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px\" title=\"GOP2\" border=\"0\" alt=\"GOP2\" align=\"right\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/GOP2_thumb.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"185\" \/><\/a> The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on \u201cfear\u201d of President Barack Obama and a promise to &quot;save the country from trending toward socialism.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how \u201cego-driven\u201d wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and \u201ctchochkes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said. <\/p>\n<p>In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party\u2019s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives. <\/p>\n<p>The presentation explains the Republican fundraising in simple terms. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate&#8230;?&quot; it asks. <\/p>\n<p>The answer: &quot;Save the country from trending toward Socialism!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Manipulating donors with crude caricatures and playing on their fears is hardly unique to Republicans or to the RNC \u2013 Democrats raised millions off George W.
