{"id":7014,"date":"2012-02-06T00:23:44","date_gmt":"2012-02-06T08:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=7014"},"modified":"2012-02-06T00:23:44","modified_gmt":"2012-02-06T08:23:44","slug":"maddow-outdoes-republicans-with-truth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2012\/02\/06\/maddow-outdoes-republicans-with-truth\/","title":{"rendered":"Maddow Outdoes Republicans with Truth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Republicans have been taking solid stands against women\u2019s rights.&#160; Their misogyny extends well beyond opposition to abortion.&#160; They are trying to present denying birth control to women as religious freedom.&#160; This is largely motivated by their fear that whites will become a minority, so to hold that off they are doing their best to keep women barefoot and pregnant.&#160; Rachel Maddow appeared on Meet the Press yesterday, when this issue was discussed.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"6barefoot\" border=\"0\" alt=\"6barefoot\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/6barefoot.jpg\" width=\"364\" height=\"524\" \/>MSNBC host Rachel Maddow countered conservative criticism of the White House <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bna.com\/hhs-says-religiousaffiliated-n12884907468\/\" target=\"_blank\">requiring religious organizations to provide insurance for birth control<\/a> Sunday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Appearing on a panel discussion on Meet The Press, Maddow defended the Obama administration\u2019s decision from Republican strategist Alex Castellanos\u2019 and New York Times columnist David Brooks\u2019 criticism. <\/p>\n<p>\u201c80 percent of people say that insurance \u2014 anybody providing health insurance should be required to cover contraception,\u201d she said. \u201cSo there is a way you can try to make this into a religious freedom issue. <strong>But all of the Republican field has gone very, very far right specifically on the issue of contraception and they get a great response for it from the Republican primary audience<\/strong>. But campaigning against the availability of birth control in America is going to run into a 21st century ceiling.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Castellanos and Brooks unsurprisingly didn\u2019t share Maddow\u2019s sentiment, feeling that the administration was impeding on religious freedom. <\/p>\n<p>However, Maddow and Rep. When a church is functioning as a church, they have the prerogative to exercise their religious beliefs and forbid birth control to their congregants, most of whom ignore them anyway.&#160; But when a church endeavors to provide a business service, they must operate under the same rules that govern everyone else providing that service.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Beyond that, the Republican war on human rights must be stopped, because they are assaulting workers\u2019 rights, others\u2019 religious rights and minority tights in addition to women\u2019s rights.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans have been taking solid stands against women\u2019s rights.&#160;
