Cornilles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"11debate\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/11debate.jpg\" alt=\"11debate\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/>Yesterday Suzanne Bonamici (D) and David Cornilles (R) debated to fill the vacancy in Oregon\u2019s First Congressional District of the US House to be filled in a special election on January 31.\u00a0 To someone politically knowledgeable, Bonamici was the clear winner.\u00a0 To the uniformed, it might not have been so obvious.\u00a0 Here are my observations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Experience: <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Bonamici has public service experience as an attorney, a FTC consumer advocate and a state legislator.\u00a0 Cornilles owns a sports marketing company with five employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Infrastructure: Cornilles favors infrastructure spending and would cut social programs to pay for it.\u00a0 So does Bonamici, but she did not specify how to pay for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Job Creation: Cornilles favors tax cuts for corporations and deregulation to create jobs.\u00a0 Bonamici would invest in job creation by ending the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Health care: Bonamici said universal health care is a right.\u00a0 Cornilles said to increase access by reducing cost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Medicare: Cornilles likes the Wyden-Ryan plan.\u00a0 Bonamici dies not.\u00a0 (Nobody actually knows what it is, but many think it is optional privatization).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Housing Market: Bonamici would reinvigorate it with strong consumer protection.\u00a0 Cornilles would by deregulating banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Scandals: Cornilles blamed a bookkeeper for the payroll $83,000 tax lien on his business. (Horse Feathers) Bonamici denied covering up the Wu scandal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">SOPA and PIPA: Both oppose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Social Security: Bonamici said raise the cap, don\u2019t cut benefits, and do not privatize.\u00a0 Cornilles said he opposed cutting benefits and preferred the bipartisan Simpson-Boles plan.
