{"id":6310,"date":"2011-11-07T00:04:55","date_gmt":"2011-11-07T08:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/07\/agent-orange-tells-obvious-lie\/"},"modified":"2011-11-07T00:04:55","modified_gmt":"2011-11-07T08:04:55","slug":"agent-orange-tells-obvious-lie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/07\/agent-orange-tells-obvious-lie\/","title":{"rendered":"Agent Orange Tells Obvious Lie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Republicans have a political problem that won\u2019t go away.&#160; Since Democrats have adopted the strategy of giving them everything they ask for, if only they will agree to small tax increases on millionaires and billionaires or close loopholes that benefit giant criminal corporations.&#160; Democrats could safely make such offers, because they knew Republicans would refuse.&#160; At the same time, this has put Republicans on Front Street, because their pandering to the super-rich has been so extreme.&#160; As they are confronted for this stance, their lies become more and more absurd.&#160; Consider&#160; John Boehner, aka Agent Orange.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"7Boehner\" border=\"0\" alt=\"7Boehner\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/7Boehner.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" \/>House Speaker John Boehner was asked this morning about <strong>the perception that Republicans are \u201cservants of the rich.\u201d<\/strong> Not surprisingly, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/politicolive\/1111\/Its_not_about_serving_the_rich_Boehner_says.html?showall\" target=\"_blank\">he disagrees<\/a><font color=\"#0066cc\"><\/font>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cThat\u2019s very unfair,\u201d Boehner said in an interview aired Sunday on ABC\u2019s \u201cThis Week.\u201d \u201cListen, I come from a family of 12. My dad owned a bar. I\u2019ve got brothers and sisters on every rung of the economic ladder.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">I\u2019m tempted to respond that this argument is foolish, but in reality, it\u2019s not even an argument. The charge, backed by years of unyielding evidence, is that he and his caucus fight for policies that almost exclusively benefit the wealthy. The Speaker\u2019s response is, well, that he has an economically diverse immediate family. That\u2019s <strong>about as compelling as a bigot who says some of his best friends are members of minority group<\/strong>.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">\u201cWhat our job here in Congress is to do \u2014 and the reason I came here 21 years ago \u2014 was to make sure that the American dream that was available to us is available for our kids and our grandkids. That \u2014 most people don\u2019t believe that\u2019s the case today. And, frankly, I\u2019ve got concerns that it may not be the case,\u201d the Ohio Republican went on. \u201cWe can\u2019t have government debt that\u2019s snuffing out the future for our kids and grandkids\u2026.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Oh good, Boehner\u2019s imitating a deficit hawk again.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal; margin: 0in; font-family: \"><font style=\"font-size: 12pt\">Look, it\u2019s a simple matter of credibility. Boehner voted for the Bush tax cuts, and <strong>added the costs to the national debt<\/strong>. Boehner then voted to finance the war in Afghanistan by <strong>adding the costs to the national debt<\/strong>. He then voted to <strong>put the costs of the war in Iraq onto the national debt<\/strong>. Boehner supported a massive expansion of the government\u2019s role in health care, Medicare Part D, and voted to <strong>pile all of its costs right onto the national debt<\/strong>.
