{"id":6183,"date":"2011-10-23T00:50:17","date_gmt":"2011-10-23T07:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/23\/a-new-low-in-republican-voter-suppression\/"},"modified":"2011-10-23T00:50:17","modified_gmt":"2011-10-23T07:50:17","slug":"a-new-low-in-republican-voter-suppression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/23\/a-new-low-in-republican-voter-suppression\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Low in Republican Voter Suppression"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Most of you are probably aware that, in states where Republicans control state government, they are rolling out almost identical Voter ID laws, financed by the Koch Brothers and other corporate criminals.&#160; Their intent is to make it harder for people who are most likely to vote for Democrats to vote.&#160; But Republicans have now hit a new in voter suppression: trying to enforce voter ID laws in a place that does not even have voter ID laws.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/23vote.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; float: left\" title=\"23vote\" alt=\"23vote\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/23vote_thumb.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a>Failed Massachusetts GOP candidate and anti-vote operative Tom Weaver recently set up a camera at a polling station in New Bedford, Massachusetts in hopes of catching a plethora of poll violations. He caught nothing, except himself and his colleague Ralph Zazula sitting behind the desk at the polling place with a sign, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southcoasttoday.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=%2F20111018%2FNEWS%2F110180349\">Show I.D. To Vote<\/a>.\u201d On the sign, Weaver had \u201cRules\u201d: including, \u201cbe polite,\u201d \u201chave valid government issued ID,\u201d and \u201cvoluntary compliance.\u201d Telling Elections Commission Chairman Maria Tomasia that they had permission to be there (they didn\u2019t), Weaver proceeded to tape himself suppressing the vote. <\/p>\n<p>Though the \u201crules\u201d said \u201cvoluntary compliance,\u201d New Bedford Mayor Scott Lang (D) said <strong>Weaver\u2019s act was tantamount to \u201cvoter suppression\u201d and he demanded an investigation<\/strong>.
