{"id":6081,"date":"2011-10-10T00:02:45","date_gmt":"2011-10-10T07:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=6081"},"modified":"2011-10-10T18:58:30","modified_gmt":"2011-10-11T01:58:30","slug":"the-999-nonsense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/10\/the-999-nonsense\/","title":{"rendered":"The 999 Nonsense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I seriously doubt that Herman Cain has any chance of winning the GOP nomination, and is the flavor of the month, as Republicans thrash about desperately looking for anyone but Romney.\u00a0 But since the main stream media seldom calls Cain on his lies, and since the Republican Party is unpredictable, because they sowed the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind, lets take 999 apart.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"10cain\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/10cain.jpg\" alt=\"10cain\" width=\"360\" height=\"241\" align=\"left\" border=\"0\" \/>The centerpiece of former pizza czar Herman Cain\u2019s presidential campaign is his \u201c999\u2033 plan, which would slash taxes on the wealthy, drive up deficits to the worst point since World War II, and <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/economy\/2011\/10\/05\/336649\/cain-999-analysis-deficits\/\" target=\"_blank\">force low-income Americans to pay a massive nine times their current tax rate<\/a>. In an interview this morning with CNN\u2019s Candy Crowley, Cain even said <strong>food and clothing would not be exempt from the 9 percent national sales tax<\/strong> he would put in place if elected president. Indeed, he said it would be \u201cfair\u201d for a poor person to pay as much in sales taxes as Crowley does&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Watch it:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CZ_PGX7N57E\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Because he says his plan would lower the income tax for some Americans \u2014 and, by his calculations, leave people with more money to spend \u2014 Cain seems to think his plan would leave low-income Americans with more money. He is wrong. <strong>Presently, the bottom quintile of earners pays about 2 percent of their income in federal taxes<\/strong>.
