{"id":6067,"date":"2011-10-08T00:05:08","date_gmt":"2011-10-08T07:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=6067"},"modified":"2011-10-08T18:31:05","modified_gmt":"2011-10-09T01:31:05","slug":"occupy-portland-may-be-unique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/08\/occupy-portland-may-be-unique\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupy Portland may be unique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Although I was very tired yesterday, I tried to intercept the Occupy Portland march through downtown.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t intended to stay long, but I did want to take a few pictures and talk to a few people there.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I missed the timing and had to return home when my oxygen ran short.\u00a0 Nevertheless, I\u2019m pleased to inform you that thousands of demonstrators are taking part here.\u00a0 Portland may be unique, because I am aware of no other major city, where the demonstrators have the blessings and support of the city government.\u00a0 If I am mistaken, and there are others, please correct me.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"8portland\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/8portland.jpg\" alt=\"8portland\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With over 24 hours down, Occupy Portland has gone comparably smoother than other occupations across the country. Specifically, the mothership, Occupy Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p>Despite growing Democrat support, NYC Republican Mayor <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/blogs\/lookout\/eric-cantor-says-wall-street-protesters-mobs-democrats-191017569.html\" target=\"_blank\">Micheal Bloomberg blamed protesters<\/a> for &#8220;trying to destroy the jobs of working people in this city.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t have it both ways,&#8221; Bloomberg said during a radio appearance. &#8220;If you want jobs you have to assist companies and give them confidence to go and hire people.&#8221; Additionally, NYPD <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/09\/26\/nyregion\/videos-show-police-using-pepper-spray-at-protest.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\">hasn&#8217;t had the cleanest record<\/a>, using pepper spray and batons to ward off the &#8220;mob.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile in downtown Portland, Mayor Sam Adams has made his support known with occasional appearances and the patrolling police are anything but hostile (could be the overtime they&#8217;re racking up) and are accommodating to the protesters&#8217; requests<\/strong>\u2026 [<em>emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Inserted from &lt;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogtown.portlandmercury.com\/BlogtownPDX\/archives\/2011\/10\/07\/occupy-portland-a-comparison\" target=\"_blank\">The Portland Mercury<\/a>&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Here\u2019s some video.
