{"id":6050,"date":"2011-10-06T00:07:06","date_gmt":"2011-10-06T07:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=6050"},"modified":"2011-10-06T00:07:06","modified_gmt":"2011-10-06T07:07:06","slug":"a-5-surtax-on-millionaires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/06\/a-5-surtax-on-millionaires\/","title":{"rendered":"A 5% surtax on millionaires?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Yesterday Senate Democrats proposed altering Obama\u2019s American Jobs Act to pay for it with a 5% income tax surcharge on millionaires.&#160; They went this route, because Harry Reid could not convince DINOs to vote to remove loopholes for Banksters and Big Energy.&#160; It will not go far, because Republicans will filibuster, but it Democrats can convince Reid to force the vote, it will put Republicans on record as siding with millionaires.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"6TaxGreedy\" border=\"0\" alt=\"6TaxGreedy\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/6TaxGreedy.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"269\" \/>Senate Democratic leaders on Wednesday proposed <strong>a 5 percent surtax on people with incomes of more than $1 million a year to pay for the package of job-creation measures sought by President Obama<\/strong> and to quell a brewing revolt among Democrats against the White House plan. <\/p>\n<p>The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, said the surtax would raise $445 billion over 10 years, just about the amount needed to pay for the jobs bill.
