Paul Ryan handed House Democrats the perfect wedge issue last week, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/02\/dems-find-their-wedge-issue-and-aim-to-force-gop-vote-on-ryan-plan.php?ref=dcblt\" target=\"_blank\">they&#8217;re going to use it.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: verdana; color: #222222; font-size: 8.25pt\">House Democrats want to kick House Republicans where it hurts, and are exploring ways to force the minority party to take a stand on Rep. Paul Ryan&#8217;s budget &quot;roadmap&quot; that has become a political minefield in advance of this fall&#8217;s elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0in 0.375in; font-family: verdana; color: #222222; font-size: 8.25pt\">A Democratic leadership source told TPMDC they are considering options for turning the Ryan plan into a bill. Once that&#8217;s done the Democrats would put the bill on the floor, forcing Republicans to vote for or against a plan they don&#8217;t want to talk about. <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8.25pt\"><span style=\"color: #242424\">Why is it such a minefield? Because <strong>he wants to eliminate Social Security and Medicare<\/strong>, and has put GOP leadership in a very difficult position: <strong>of course Republicans want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare, it&#8217;s been their <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic; color: #242424\"><strong>raison d&#8217;etre<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #242424\"><strong> since the programs were established<\/strong>.
