Republicans are desperate to keep taxes at record lows for millionaires, billionaires and corporate criminals.  They call them the job creators, although job outsourcers would be a more truthful term.  However, rich people did not stop investing when the top marginal tax rate was over 90%.  What patriotic millionaires say sheds more light on the subject.<\/font><\/p>\n

\"taxes\"Wrapping the wealthy in the term \u201cjob creator,\u201d Republican lawmakers are hammering President Obama over the \u201cBuffett rule,\u201d a tax reform policy based on the simple and popular notion<\/a> that millionaires should pay their fair share in taxes<\/strong>. To the GOP, this is a surefire way<\/a> to ensure millionaires or \u201cjob creators\u201d do not invest in the economy. \u201cThe reason we tax cigarettes in this country is to get people to stop smoking,\u201d said House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI). \u201cIf you tax capital more, you get less capital. If you tax job creators more, you get fewer jobs<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

But a surprising group of people find that to be entirely untrue: the \u201cjob creators\u201d themselves<\/strong>. As the billionaire behind the Buffett Rule, Warren Buffett, explained<\/a>, \u201cI have worked with investors for 60 years and I have yet to see anyone \u2014 not even when capital gains rates were 39.9 percent in 1976-77 \u2014 shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain. People invest to make money, and potential taxes have never scared them off<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Indeed, 200 millionaires created a group known as the Patriotic Millionaires<\/a> to make this exact case\u2026 [emphasis added<\/em>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ryan is lying.  The reason government taxes cigarettes in this country is to take advantage of addicted people, most of whom are poor and middle class.<\/font><\/p>\n
