{"id":5984,"date":"2011-09-30T00:02:08","date_gmt":"2011-09-30T07:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/?p=5984"},"modified":"2011-09-30T00:02:08","modified_gmt":"2011-09-30T07:02:08","slug":"more-real-class-warfare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.politicsplus.org\/blog\/2011\/09\/30\/more-real-class-warfare\/","title":{"rendered":"More REAL class warfare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font color=\"#0000ff\">Whenever Democrats try to protect the poor and middle classes from the ravages of Republican welfare for the rich, Republicans accuse them of class warfare.&#160; Class warfare does in fact exist.&#160; It has gone on for over thirty years.&#160; Republicans started it.&#160; Republicans continue it, and because Republicans have been on offense throughout, Republicans have been winning it.&#160; Now to protect the manner in which the tax code favors the rich, Republicans intend to gut the safety net again.<\/font><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"30class-warfare\" border=\"0\" alt=\"30class-warfare\" align=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/www.7thstep.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/30class-warfare.jpg\" width=\"360\" height=\"384\" \/>House Republicans announced plans to <strong>cut funding for Pell college tuition grants<\/strong>, NPR and other Democratic priorities, setting up another contentious round of negotiations on the federal budget.<\/p>\n<p>The House Appropriations Committee today called for<strong> eliminating more than 30 education programs, including President Barack Obama&#8217;s &quot;Race to the Top&quot; initiative<\/strong>. The panel proposed slashing the Department of Labor&#8217;s budget by one-fifth, <strong>slicing funds for the National Labor Relations Board by 17 percent and barring funds to implement Obama&#8217;s health-care overhau<\/strong>l. It would also <strong>withhold funding for Planned Parenthood unless it says it will stop providing abortions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The provisions are included in a $153.4 billion measure needed to fund the departments of Health and Human Services, Education and Labor for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. <strong>The Republicans&#8217; plan would amount to $4 billion cut or about 2.5 percent less than this year.
